I would guess most of you have seen a picture of a crop circle. Someone's sled leaked gas this winter and this is a picture of a gas circle. We haven't had much rain this spring to wash the remaining gas away. So it's taking a little longer for the grass to come back.
Thursday, April 28, 2022
We had snow last night again. It didn't amount to much and it didn't stick to the grass. But the roof was cold enough for it to stick to. There was more last night, but the sun started melting it away first thing first this morning.
I forgot to show you this one. We had snow on the 16th and check out the nail heads on the deck. They had enough warmth in them to melt the snow away when it first started. Funny how different things hold the heat longer than others.
Thursday, April 21, 2022
We got snow and it was REALLY GOOD snow. But it came too late for 2022 season and way too early for 2023. As I'm posting this Thursday afternoon, we have R coming out of the sky and it won't be long before the snow is melted away.

Monday, April 4, 2022
I'm not sure what Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have going on. But we had a dusting of snow overnight again. This upcoming weekend is the first for white water rafting on the Moose. But with most of the snow gone, who knows if they'll be rafting or not.

Sunday, March 27, 2022
Can you believe it, we look for it all winter and we don't get it. Now that the gates are closed and the base is pretty much gone, we get half a foot and it's still snowing at 10:30pm. But it won't be around for long, as it going to be almost 60 on Thursday. It will be a good shot of water for the first weekend of white water rafting.
Friday, March 25, 2022
The pool has a little piece of ice left and my guess is it won't be long before the lakes are open water again. But after looking at the forecast for this weekend and seeing two nights going down to 5. It may be a little longer than I thought before we see the ice gone.
Tuesday, March 22, 2022
We don't need to see any ice. The only good I can see from an ice storm is work for tree services.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM WEDNESDAY TO NOON EDT THURSDAY... * WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Freezing rain accumulations mostly around a tenth of an inch, with up to a quarter of an inch possible over the southern Adirondacks. Very light snow accumulations possible over the Adirondacks.
Sunday, March 20, 2022
Friday, March 18, 2022
For the heck of it I'm putting together a video every few days just so you can see what see have for weather. Tuesday morning on top of McCauley they had snow and we had R in town, in the evening we got a dusting everywhere.
Tuesday, March 15, 2022
Loaded the sled in the truck and headed to North Street for my last ride of the season. Happy I did it and unless we get a good dumping of snow, it is over for the season. In the time I was out, you could see the snow melting away with the warmth and sun. I included a 2 minute clip of my ride. Hope it holds you over till winter returns for the 2022-23 season.
Saturday, March 12, 2022
The last two weekends we thought it was over and it snowed just in time to get in another weekend of riding. Doesn't look like we'll be saved for next weekend. Who knows maybe we'll get the last weekend in before the gates close for the season. I know wishful thinking, but it wouldn't be the first time we got a good dumping of snow the end of March.
Friday, March 11, 2022
This is starting to be a thing, snow just in the nick of time for riding that weekend. Here's what may save this weekend.
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 AM EST SUNDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Northern Warren, Northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM EST Sunday.
Just enough to make it worth coming up to pick up the trailer, for those that leave it for the season and get the last ride in on top of it.
Tuesday, March 8, 2022
Will there be riding this weekend again? The way it stands now, the answer is NO. There is some snow in the forecast for the end of the week and it all depends on what we get. If we do get enough to bring things back around that you could ride. It will be the last time, as next week the forecast has us in the 40's seven days in a row.
Monday, March 7, 2022
We lost most of the new snow we had gotten in the last week, in the last 24 hours. Warm temps combined with strong winds took it out, just like blowing on hot soup but in reverse and then through in some R on top. Hope everyone had a great season and who knows, you may just get in some more seat time before it's over. It looked like it was over just over a week ago and this past weekend the area was packed with sleds. It's not over till the 1st.

Thursday, March 3, 2022
A week ago many thought it was over and if you look at the 24th video you would agree. But here we are a week later and now have some of the best conditions of the season. So how many more weekends will we get? Hard to say, but it will come to an end on the 1st. So enjoy it while you can!
Tuesday, March 1, 2022
The upcoming week and weekend are looking really good and if you can get away, I would. Because starting Sunday it looks like things are going to start going down hill again and it could be all over for the season. But some thought that last week and look at it now.
Sunday was a little crazy around here and then we lost power at 10pm. and it didn't come back on till after midnight. When it did come back on I headed out to plowed and got the cams back online. So here is Sunday and Monday's video together. Conditions must be pretty good. Because very few people stopped in the office today.

Feels like Christmas Eve and waiting for Christmas morning to see what Santa brought you. I've been nice, but have any of you been naughty? If you have, stay out of town, because the rest of us want to ride this weekend!
Friday 8:25am 4 to 5 inches so far.
The live camera at the info center is now at oldforge.net/live
Wednesday, February 23, 2022
Now all we need is some new snow to get back out on the trails. Forecast is still calling for up to a foot of storm snow. What can I say, something is better than nothing and 6 to 12 will be enough to get out riding again. The local 11 o'clock news showed us getting 8 to 12 from the storm.
Tuesday, February 22, 2022
How does it go "Out with the old and in with the new" That's what happen here in Old Forge. The snow from Saturday is going away and if everything goes right, we'll have new snow for this upcoming weekend. The ice base is holding and will be freezing back down starting Wednesday morning.
Conditions went down hill Monday afternoon when it warmed up. Temps will be dropping back down Wednesday morning and will freeze things back down. Then it looks like snow will be returning to the area Thursday into Friday. At least this week we'll hopefully get the snow in time to save the weekend.
Sunday, February 20, 2022
It looks like we'll have another warm up this week with some R included. But there is going to be one huge difference. It's going to happen a day sooner than last week and we should be in good shape for a weekend of riding.

Friday, February 18, 2022
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 7 PM EST SATURDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with localized amounts up to 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties. * WHEN...From 4 AM to 7 PM EST Saturday.
Let's hope we see the 3 to 6 inches. Conditions right now are fair at best and we need some snow to cover the ice base. 3 to 6 would be a game changer and could really bring things around.
The R is over and winter has returned as of Friday morning. We did take a hit and it could have been worse, but one thing is for sure. The base we have now, is bullet proof and hard as a rock. Forecast is calling for some snow today and Saturday. So, it should be ridable again soon. No, it won't be perfect, but it depends on what you're looking for, as you will hear in the video.
Thursday, February 17, 2022
But am I? Most days I've been putting the video together around 10 or 11pm and most aren't seeing it till the morning. So putting it together early morning and posting it isn't much different. Except for it puts me behind doing my morning stuff. Guess I shouldn't fall asleep watching the Olympics.
Wednesday, February 16, 2022
Did you notice the "opps" in today's video? Hate to say it, but it looks like the ugly is going to happen on Thursday. But there still is hope that it won't be all bad. If the change over from R to snow happens faster than predicted. We still may get some riding in this weekend. I know it's wishful thinking. But it could happen, so let's see how it pans out before you through in the towel. Wouldn't be the first time that the end result, gave us a good coating of snow.
On a different subject, those of you that have stayed with us this winter and saw Chelsea. We now have a new helper around here as of 8:45pm Monday night and Kevin has a sister to play with.
Tuesday, February 15, 2022
If we all start dancing and crossing our fingers, do you think just maybe the forecast will change? Because right now it really isn't looking all that great and I can tell just by the amount of phone calls I'm getting without even looking at the forecast. All we can hope for, is the Groundhog was right and we'll have six more weeks of winter. But what, does that mean we'll have snow or just cold?
Monday, February 14, 2022
Everything has frozen back up and the groomers are out smoothing out the ruts and moguls. One thing is for sure, we now have a solid ice base. This was the first R the new snow saw and it didn't cause a total ice over. If we have another R and freeze, before having more new snow, what's out there may turn into solid ice.
Saturday, February 12, 2022
Friday, February 11, 2022
We haven't seen all that much R at 10:45pm. Forecast is calling for it to change over to snow around midnight. The temp hit a high of 41 at 9pm and it has started to drop. If we get the light snow predicted overnight and the temp drops. Things should come around and we'll have a full weekend of riding. Because if the extended forecast is correct, those that are here this weekend will be happy they are.
I've been working on a fun project, that I think you may enjoy. But please keep to yourself, as I'm not ready to go public with it yet and have it posted all over the internet. I want to make sure I have all the bugs worked out, it's stable and doesn't go off line. I have two live stream cameras running and the links are below. The point park stream is on wifi and has dropped off line a few times.
If you would, please click on the subscribe button on my youtube channel.
Thursday, February 10, 2022
Temp was above freezing most of the day and it snowed most of the day. It was great packing snow and we got about 3 inches. Now we just need the temp to drop and freeze everything down. Lots of people in town for a weekday and you'll see what I mean in the Stillwater video.
Wednesday, February 9, 2022
I would say everyone is having a good time this week. The warmup today put a hurting on the roads. But it sounds like the trails held up pretty good. Even the guys that broke a spring today, had a good day of riding. After they did some parking lot repairs this afternoon.
It snowed, they groomed and all are having fun! Light snow all day today and more towards the end of the week. May get a little warm Wednesday afternoon, but it will be short lived. Not that you can really count on it. But it would be nice to get the 3/4 of a foot predicted for next Thursday. But let's be real, that's way too far off to count on it.
Tuesday, February 8, 2022
For those of you that didn't figure out what was out of place in yesterday's video, here's a hint. What's missing from the video today? Not much else to report. The sun and warmer temps today, softened up the new snow and will freeze down over night.
Monday, February 7, 2022
Who can see what's out of place in today's video. If you stayed with us this weekend you can't guess. Because a few of you know what happened. Also let's play a waving game. See if you can find the three people waving to the camera.

Saturday, February 5, 2022
You can tell the temp is dropping like a rock tonight. We had the wet snow on Friday morning and that soaked the snow we did have on the roof. Well with the temp at 12 below the roof is starting to pop and crack from the snow freezing.
Snowed over 36 hours, totaling around 16 inches of all different types of snow. From snow that was dripping wet, to little flakes that you would find in a snow globe. One thing is for sure, groomers will have their work cut out for them this weekend. A boat load of people in town already and they didn't even get a full day to work the new snow before they got here.
Friday, February 4, 2022
Don't have any trail video for you today. Spent a good part of the morning working on the plow truck. Thought I had it fixed, but found out tonight, when I went out plowing again that I didn't. At midnight we have a good half a foot plus and it's still coming. Wouldn't shock me if we wake up to a foot in the morning.

Wednesday, February 2, 2022
Here's Tuesday's video on Wednesday morning and guess what, I didn't fall asleep in the chair. The program I use to make the videos crashed three time in a row, when I was just about finished making it. At that point, I figured I'd just finish it in the morning.
Winter Storm Watch is calling for 10 to 16. Cross your fingers and gat dancing.
Monday, January 31, 2022
Forecast is still looking good and let's hope we get the one to two feet that is predicted. There is no question that we need it. Traffic was light this weekend and today also. Which made the snow we do have last that much longer. For laughs I posted a bonus video from ten years ago. It didn't look much better then, than it does now.
Ten years ago today.............

Saturday, January 29, 2022
Things are looking better for later in the week, with snow in the forecast and not R. It does look like it's going to be storm snow, which we could use. As snow only last so long before you need a fresh coating to give the groomers something to work with.
Friday, January 28, 2022
It sure doesn't feel or sound like a Friday. You'll see in the scan of the parking lot this morning. There aren't many sleds out there and I haven't heard many sleds running around town this morning either. If this is going to be the case for the whole weekend. Those that are here will enjoy some good riding, without the normal weekend crowd.

Tuesday, January 25, 2022
We haven't been seeing big numbers, when it comes to new snow. I haven't been thankful for the cold temps over the last week, when it comes to the fuel bill. But I am thankful for them, when it comes to how well it has kept the snow we do have.
Monday, January 24, 2022
In the video today I said it went down to 11 below this morning. That was incorrect, it only went down to 8 below. By what Dave told me, trail 6 isn't anything to talk about. So they changed course and headed towards Stillwater.

Thursday, January 20, 2022
The phone has been ringing and people are making reservations, now that we have riding. But after checking in, I haven't seen much of anyone. Which tells me conditions must be pretty good. Not much else to report on.

Tuesday, January 18, 2022
In a matter of a few days, the conditions have gone from, not so pretty to pretty darn good. What else can I say. It snowed, they're grooming, 10 day forecast looks good and smiles and miles are being had by all that are here.

Monday, January 17, 2022
In the last 24 hours, riding conditions have gone from, I'll think about it, to you're missing out. Groomers are out and the ten day forecast is looking great, with more snow on Wednesday. So what ever excuse you have for not coming, is on you. Because winter has finally gotten to Old Forge and it's time to enjoy it.
Sunday, January 16, 2022
As I'm putting together today's video, the radar is showing the leading edge of the storm is in Utica. So it shouldn't be long before we start seeing some snow. The 20 below this morning even froze down the sloppy snow at the end of the driveway. The snow that is loaded with salt from Rt 28.
Saturday, January 15, 2022
A few rooms had canceled for this weekend, after reading some of the reports on the riding conditions. But after seeing the video I posted on Thursday, they changed their minds and headed north for a weekend of riding. Guess what? Everyone went out and had a great day of riding. Except maybe Ken. He had some sled problems.
Thursday, January 13, 2022
I got my sled out, went for a little ride, took video and put on 20 miles. What did I find for conditions? Better than I thought with the limited snow. Don't think you're going to blast down the trail at 60 and have it stick in the corner or go any place you want to. It is pick and choose. But you can go out and get in some seat time. The video today, is over 20 mins. long of trail footage. Take a look and you decide if you want to sit at home or come ride.
You can speed up the video by going into settings at the bottom right and changing the playback speed.
Wednesday, January 12, 2022
Forecast showed snow for us today. Late afternoon we started getting a light drizzle and it's still doing it 9:45pm. But as I said in the video. It may be a good thing. As it is firming up the snow we do have and helping make base. I'm wondering what it will do over night. Will it stay drizzle at 27 degrees and freeze or change over to snow?
Tuesday, January 11, 2022
I didn't want to sound like Dave and say the lake effect wouldn't amount to much. So I kept my thoughts to myself on how much snow we would get from it. We did get 5 or 6 but nothing more. One thing is for sure, the cold has settled in, we had 16 below this morning.
Sunday, January 9, 2022
Forecast is still calling for 2 to 7 from lake effect. I was really hoping to see some good wet snow over the last 24 hours. But all we got was a light coating of ice and a dusting of snow. At 9pm the wind has picked up and we are starting to see lake effect. Cross your fingers that Old Man Winter points the snow guns at us.

For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy lake effect snow possible, with snowfall accumulations of greater than 7 inches possible. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.
Friday, January 7, 2022
Not many people in town today and light traffic on the trails. Trail crew was out doing what they can, with the limited amount of snow we have. Not much else to report on. Looks like snow on Sunday and cold temps all week. Cross your fingers and get dancing.
Thursday, January 6, 2022
Here's the first trail video of the season for ya. Tom and George went out and gave it the old college try today. I have to say it doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. But take in mind, they only saw like ten sleds all day. If you put normal weekday traffic out there, it wouldn't be long before it was down to dirt.
Wednesday, January 5, 2022
I started making this video last night and stopped to watch a TV show at 10. My plan was to finish it when the show went off. Well the show went off and my eyes opened at 4am. So I'm finishing it now at 8:30am.
There is going to be lake effect on Thursday. I'll keep you updated on what the local forecast is saying and what we may get out of it.
