Thursday afternoon it got warm, but the trails hung in there. But overnight the warm temps did a number on the conditions and things got rally soft fast on Friday afternoon. Now we sit and wait and hope we don't have a total melt down before the cold temps return. Hope you have some fun plans for New Year's Eve.

I went with the slower frame rate on the time lapse. Not much to report on. No new snow and it looks like today will be the last day we'll get in any riding for some time. Unless you're into riding in the 40's and R.

Do you like the time lapse played slow or fast? Stillwater and McCauley are played at a slower frame rate and you can see more. Trail and Info center are played at a faster speed. I play them faster so they aren't so long. But with doing so, if you blink you can miss something. What do you like better? Slow and see more or fast and see less.

I don't know what I did with it. But I lost the scan of the parking lot from this morning. When I took it, I was thinking to myself, everyone is going to like this one, with the lot full of sleds. Today's video has some good and bad in it. But you have to go looking to find the bad, because it's almost all good.

It's the day after Christmas and I'm sure some of you got what you wished for. Snow to go ride your snowmobile. But my question to you is, did you wish for it the entire season? Hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas. Lake effect warning didn't do much for Old Forge, but it sure did north of us.

For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills.
Wind chills as low as 25 below zero. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches possible, mainly north of Route 28. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.
It looks much better than it did this morning. Watch the railing at Stillwater and you can see how much snow they got this afternoon.

1:30pm Update. Video says it all........
12:30pm update. The r is over and it has changed back to snow! Forecast calling for 3 to 5"
So far so good and it looks like the worst of the R is past us. More later as the day goes on. I'm just hoping no one goes out there till later today and it gets a chance to set up. Because it's so soft right now you'll be down to dirt with one rap of the throttle.
On another note, we lost power over night and the trail camera didn't come back on after the power was out. I'll try to get out there later today and get it back online.
Missed the worst of it.............
I forgot to include something the trail foreman said. He is more worried about wind damage, than the R we will see overnight. I didn't think about it, but he is right. It could take days or even a week or more to clean up all the downed trees from 60 mph wind gusts. So cross your fingers we don't see much of either.

Only 4 days left till Santa gets here. I'm heading out to do the last of my shopping. Town has put a number on the base amount. Cross your finger we see limited R on Friday and it sets the base up for the entire season.

Not much to report or talk about. We're all watching the weather for Friday, as that is going to be the deciding factor on how Christmas week turns out. Sorry about the humming again. One of these days I'm going to pin point what is causing it.

The lake effect warning is still in place till noon today (Monday) and I would say we'll be close to 10" for the storm total. The snow stick out front is at one and a half feet and if it snows like it is now till noon, we may close in on two feet. But you never know with lake effect. In the blink of an eye, the sun could be out with blue skies.

There was a few sleds running around today, but nothing to talk about. If this snow came last week for Sbodeo, it would be a different story. Also the week before Christmas is almost always quiet.

NOON EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches with up to 12 inches in a few locations. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to noon EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel will become difficult due to snow covered roads and reduced visibilities. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow will begin tonight north of Route 28 and Old Forge and slowly shift southward late Sunday morning into the afternoon. The snowband may oscillate north of Route 28 early Sunday evening before shifting southward overnight into Monday morning. Snowfall rates may reach 1 inch an hour at times.
Posting this at midnight. By Saturday morning we should be above the 10 of the 10 to 20 that was in forecast. I will say this about the snow we got, IT'S REALLY GOOD! This stuff is packing down just from walking on it. Not much else to report. The video is a little long today. But I wanted to give a good view of what it's looking like.

Friday 11:45am. At this point we've gotten 4 plus inches. I really good packing snow and the temp is 34. Radar looks like the rate of snow will be increasing this afternoon.
Are we going to have snow and riding for Christmas week this year? If the forecast comes true, we'll be seeing 2 plus feet before Christmas Eve. I'm sure that will make Santa happy! Landing on bare roofs has to be hard on his sleigh. Check out the 10 day forecast and cross your fingers it comes true.

For those of you that didn't make it to town this weekend. Jay took the camera over to the races and show for you to see. Even without snow, it looks like there was a good turnout. Looks like winter temps will be moving back in this week. The ground is wet and it won't take much for the frost to start settling in.

It took me a second or two to remember how to put the videos together. One of the apps I use didn't want to work, so I had to find a work around. After making the video I looked at the extended forecast and it changed again. So now let's cross our fingers that this snow even sticks around. Hey at least it's white and makes it look like Christmas. Nothing worse than a green Christmas in the north country.

Have 8" so far and it's still snowing. Forecast is calling for 2 to 5 more by 7pm. If it keeps snowing like it is at 8:45am, till 7pm, we'll get the 5" for sure. Lake effect is sitting right on Old Forge at this time.
