Do you ride a Polaris?

If you do and you ride in the Old Forge area you may want to contact the dealer you buy from and Polaris.  Why do I say this?  Don's Polaris has been a dealer in Old Forge for 53 years.  This spring they plan on retiring and at this time it doesn't sound like there will be anyone taking over Don's or a Polaris dealer in Old Forge for next season.  There have been people interested in taking over the dealership.  But when they find out what Polaris will require of them to keep the dealership they back away. I don't have the answer on how to fix this and these are just my thoughts.  But a call to your dealer and or Polaris can't hurt.  Because will you continue to ride a Polaris if you can't get it into a dealer for repairs, pick up accessories or have warranty work done where you ride?

  2. Back in the late 60's early 70's didn't take much to get a dealership just needed ambition and love for the sport . You could find a Snowmobile dealer in every town that had snow sometimes 3 or 4 , you have to remember their were over 258 sled manufactures back in the day. The showroom was the garage of where the owner lived. You can still find some of the originals like Don's out there. It's a sad loss to the old ways . Now you need 5000 sqft building with a million in inventory before you can even open the door. Good luck in the retirement and thank you for taking a chance on a sport that we all love.

    1. You just described my Dad and Uncle's entrance into selling sleds in the late 60's. My Grandfather had a machine shop at our house in a small barn. Guy pulls up one day with a Sno Jet in a pickup. Next thing you know we had a dealership. Sold Yamaha then went to Ski Doo, still in the barn, eventually moved to a bigger building. Added Arctic Cat and finally closed in the early 80's. Fun growing up riding.

  3. Don's Polaris has bailed me out many times over the years and has that small Hometown business feeling. I hope it will remain there.

  4. Same here. Several spur of the moment issues they took care of. Loved buying all current 4 sleds from Joy.
