Went away fast.............

 We have a dusting to an inch of new snow on Thursday morning and it looked nice.  But it didn't stick around long and by midafternoon we had the ugly stuff back.

Short time............

 For a short time Tuesday morning it looked like a winter wonderland.  But it wasn't long before the sun melted away the fresh coating of snow and it was ugly again.

 You know the old saying, it's not over till you hear the lady singing.  Well let's just say she is singing loud.  The last two days have taken us from great springtime conditions to no conditions.    Thanks to everyone for watching this year again.  With nothing to report on I'll be taking a break.  But check in from time to time as you never know when I might post on something.

 Two sleds made it to Stillwater for a late lunch on Wednesday.  Will they be the last sighting of sleds for the season?  Conditions went downhill fast on Wednesday and it's pretty much over.  The guesscast doesn't show any snow that will turn things around.  But you never know, there's still a week plus before the gates swing shut.

Had to do it................

 I couldn't just sit here and not get in my last ride of the season on a nice sunny day.  Went out this afternoon and put on 54 miles.  Had a guest check in mid-morning and return late afternoon and he did 140 miles.  It's springtime conditions and us few nuts that won't give up are having a blast.  But the sad thing is, I think it will all be coming to an end on Wednesday. Temps in the 40's and R on Thursday will do it in.

 The first day of spring is Monday the 20th.  What the heck happened to winter, besides it never ever really getting here.  The lake effect we got Saturday into Sunday really made a difference in the conditions and it shows by how many people stopped at Stillwater on Sunday.  Can't tell you for sure how much we got.  But you can see it on the railing at Stillwater.  Had a true die hard stay the night on Saturday.  He drove up from Maryland on Saturday morning, rode 120 miles in the afternoon and headed back to Maryland early Sunday morning.  Now that is someone that really enjoys snowmobiling.

Do you ride a Polaris?

 If you do and you ride in the Old Forge area you may want to contact the dealer you buy from and Polaris.  Why do I say this?  Don's Polaris has been a dealer in Old Forge for 53 years.  This spring they plan on retiring and at this time it doesn't sound like there will be anyone taking over Don's or a Polaris dealer in Old Forge for next season.  There have been people interested in taking over the dealership.  But when they find out what Polaris will require of them to keep the dealership they back away. I don't have the answer on how to fix this and these are just my thoughts.  But a call to your dealer and or Polaris can't hurt.  Because will you continue to ride a Polaris if you can't get it into a dealer for repairs, pick up accessories or have warranty work done where you ride?

The freeze thaws have started and with the way the long range is looking the end is near.  I'm sure some of you think it's here already.  But it all depends on what you're looking for.  Have a few guests in and they had a fun day of riding.  But you are not going to make any kind of loops at this point.

 The R didn't start till afternoon which helped us out big time.  Now we just need the temps to drop and freeze things back down for some Saturday riding.  Radar is showing some snow to the west of us at 10pm.   Cross your finger and get dancing that we see some new white stuff.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

 WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM SATURDAY TO 8 PM EDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Northern Herkimer County and far northwestern Hamilton County.

Why?

I think this week's snow has given us the best trail conditions we have had all season.  So why is it when we get really great conditions like this, we have to get a R event visit us?  You'll see in the video I did what I said I was going to do and went to Stillwater for lunch.  It was so nice that I went back out for a short rip in the evening also.  Not big miles, put on 72 in a little over 4 hours including an hour for lunch at Stillwater.

Last thing of the day I put the video together.  At 10:15 Tuesday night the power went out and without power there's no video making.  It came back on about an hour later, however the camera systems don't reset till the morning after a power outage.  What did I mess up in this video?

Could it be!

 We have 5 to 6 on the ground at 9am and it's still snowing.  It looks like it's going to snow till Wednesday morning.  So could this be the biggest snow of the season, only time will tell.  Watch till the end to see how it's looking.

 It started snowing around 8am.  First warning was 12 to 18. Second was 10 to 15.  The question is, will the third one come true?

 Watch till the end and you'll see what I'm talking about.  The big question is will we get the 8 to 12 in the revised guesscast.  If we do, I'm going for a ride.  Because after looking at the 10 day this could be the end of the season.  We'll still have snow, but the daily freeze and thaw could ice everything over and make it useless.

 Daylight savings time has started and with it will surely bring the roller coaster of trail conditions.  But wait a minute, that's been the whole season. This upcoming week is a perfect example.  Looks like we should have great mid-week riding and by the weekend who knows what it will be like.  Could be great conditions or a _hit show and we won't know till Saturday morning.  How do you plan for that?

SnoFest........

 For those that couldn't make it to SnoFest I did a walk around on Friday so you could see what was there.  After putting the video together and posting it, I noticed something.  Do you see it?  I gave myself a laugh.

 Don't forget this weekend is SnoFest at the Rec. Center on Friday and Saturday.  Saturday night there will be fireworks at the lake front at dusk.

We have it all.............

You're going to find good, fair and ugly when it comes to trail conditions this week and what we have isn't for everyone.  The guests I have in are doing 50 to 150 miles a day and are having a good time doing it.  But if you think you're going to go wherever you want to, it's not going to happen.  We're into springtime conditions.

 Guesscast looks like we may even get some riding in next week.  Showing snow on Monday and Tuesday which will help replenish the snow we'll lose from the weekend riders.  If so I think I hear Stillwater calling me for lunch.

Seat time............

 Went out for a quick ride to see firsthand how it is.  There are some spots that are just plain ugly.  They are short lived and over all I'm not sorry I took my sled out.  Conditions will also improve with the colder temps moving back in this week.  The last few days the groomers couldn't do much besides pan the trails.  It is March 6th and at this point any seat time is a bonus with the season we had this year.  It all depends on what you're looking for.

A week...........

 I just looked and it was Thursday the 23rd when the 10 day guesscast was calling for 2 feet of snow all together.  We have three days left before the 10 days are over and guess what.  The 1 foot mark is still showing on the snow stick.

Last Month........

 First full week of March is looking pretty good.  But don't forget the sun is getting higher in the sky and the days are getting longer.  Won't be long and the season will be over.  So ride it while we got it!  Because who knows how long it will be around with the way this season has treated us.
