Now it's just a matter of who and where gets what. The bands have been north of us today and you can see on the Stillwater cam that they have gotten more snow than us. The wind has been whipping and when the bands shift south I think we will see snow adding up fast off of the lake. The big question is how long will the band stay in the area and that will be the factor on how much we get. Don't give up hope, we may be riding this weekend yet. This wouldn't be the first time conditions have changed over night.
Today's Video for.................
Back in 1999, there was a weekend where we had no snow on a Friday and by Sunday we had over 3 feet. Stay positive ladies and gentleman. It's only Jan 31st!
ReplyDeletesnowing like hell on Matt's drafthouse cam and at slickers...soon the band will move to the drug store and then up town..pass over christy's and go to booneville...I need a life !!!
ReplyDeleteNo the season is over. You can't ride anymore, the area is toast. It must be true because I read it here yesterday.
ReplyDeleteDont count on ANYTHING until its on the ground. Old Forge got an inch of snow. Have fun riding. LOL And how long until it melts again? A week? Prob less.
ReplyDeleteSteve, you need to completely stop at the stop signs!
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the educational aspect of this video. My group has been riding the area for years and we are guilty of cutting through the parking lot for the school. Thank you for dropping some knowledge on me. You learn something new every day!
ReplyDeleteI cut through the parking lot also, when I can. But there are times when cars are parked in the end spots or the snow banks are to high.
DeleteWhy do they need to make it so confusing as to what side of the street to ride on? Youre just asking for trouble. Why can't they put up signs explaining this.
ReplyDeleteLet me guess.... 'government' is running this.
What kind of camera are you using for the video.
ReplyDeleteMan, if we could have just cut out three days this winter we'd have had weeks of great riding. Oh well, hopefully by next weekend things set back up, I will enjoy some college b'ball and football this weekend instead!
ReplyDeleteLooks like its snowing good!!
ReplyDeleteIs there such a thing as bad snow?
DeleteDo not.. DO NOT.. speed on that road along the school west. All the way to Steves corner.. In the TB last Friday night.. Heard a little conversation with a TOW.. A aa.. let's say. Someone who is privy.. The ticket books are ready.
ReplyDeleteSlow down... Its in every ones best interest.
Hey Steve! LOVE these reports. And I don't even snowmobile, nor live anywhere close to OF, haha! Crazy, right? (So what on earth am I doing on your blog, you're no doubt wondering...)
ReplyDeleteWell, as a kid, my family used to vacation with relatives in Watertown NY every Labor Day and we ventured south to the OF Hardware Store without fail. So a couple years ago I took my wife to the Sundial Cottage on the south side of town for a getaway wkd around Valentine's Day. There was 12" on the ground and more that weekend! We went snow-shoeing at the golf course and enjoyed dinner @ Old Mill.
All this to say, I love winter and miss it down here in Harrisburg PA. Just like you said earlier this week, we just don't get the snow we used to. So I live my winter thru your blog, haha!
We've been up once more since, and are trying to make it back every 2 yrs. Last year we hiked around Moss Lake, which I did as a 12-yr old! (loooong ago, LOL!!) One of these days we'll save up to rent a 2-seater rig and I'll properly introduce my wife to the wilds of Webb and beyond. :)
Keep up the fun reports! And remember... "C ya!"

Hi Dean,
DeleteThanks for the post. Trust me you aren't the only one that watches and doesn't ride. There are people all over the world watching Old Forge through the webcam network and the blog.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the winter,
Steve
Im in Inlet and since 5pm when we arrived we have to have over a fresh 10 to 14" of snow. It hard to measure with the wind. We just got back from the Big T its snowing so hard with the wind we couldnt even ride to indian lake it took alomost 1hr to get back to the ole barn so we took the roads back to inlet...
ReplyDeleteIf it stays snowing all night will get 20" by morning
You're joking...right? I hope to god you're not, but I think you are lol.
Deletewww.oldforge,net
DeleteId say he was spot on last night with about 14" of fresh snow...
I got a reliable report of 9 inches out of Inlet. Sounds plenty good to me...
ReplyDeleteGuess all the whiners will have to cry about the roads again being that the snow is back.
ReplyDeleteOld forge is back, fair conditions by sat, good conditions next week, coming up tuesday for 3 days. should have a nice midweek ride:)
ReplyDeleteYeah that was my original goal. gonna wait for steve's report before I pull the trigger...
ReplyDeleteLooking at the webs cams this morning 2/1 -- I say the conditions went from bad to good overnight. Surprise we live in the great northeast. Wish I could get up this weekend to partake but not looking good with sports. Of course its snowing like the devil here in Ballston Spa this morning.
ReplyDeletebare groung, 50deg, water running everywhere do the math it did not get good overnight, it got white overnight if you think 1ft of snow will fix everything keep on thinking that it will help but not make it good, how ever the town will probably report 4-6 great conditions

ReplyDeleteWell your suppose to stay on the trail!!! thats why their grommed to prevent jumps, if your gone to boonedock i hope thats a bar in boonville. My advice is not to buy a sled, thats all we need is one more throttle jocky like you on the trails. Your the one who asked for advice!!!
Delete^^^ I don't know if that was very necessary.
DeleteAre you a die-hard cat guy? Because if you aren't, I may stay away from them until they get their stuff figured out. You don't want to be stuck 200 miles out with a sheared secondary clutch.
I also don't know where you are going to boondock very much in this area.
I don't know very much about the cats, but either one should have a very nice ride. I have heard the procross chassis handles very well. I would go with the 2-stroke 800 just because you said you want to jump it. The 800 is going to be lighter and more agile.
Post this question on HCS. You will get tons more advice. This is really more for trail conditions than anything else.
Who in their right mind would jump an 800? My advice is to take your aggressive riding somewhere else.
DeleteI see absolutely nothing wrong with jumping an 800. Jump any sled you want, you could jump a Doo XR 1200 if you wanted to. Some of you people scare me, like you are afraid to do anything exciting or fun. The guy never said he was going to jump over little kids riding their 120's on the trail...
DeleteContrary to popular belief, people do ride the trails at more than 20 mph...
To start w/ 120s with little kids not allowed on the trails, this blog basically for OF riding IN OF show me where you can boondock@ jump sleds I never said a word about speed on the trails. Sounds like your one of the trail destroying "throttle jockys" yourself

ReplyDeleteDom, why don't you go away and grow up and gain some common sense before you come back here. What are you now, all of 18 - 19?
ReplyDeleteDid you ever think people may ride in other places
ReplyDeletebesides O F you nucklehead 12:29. A new sled costs to
much just to wait for O F to get snow
