Looks like lake effect will be coming to the area very soon, so cross your fingers and get a dancing. Right after the lake effect we will be going into the deep freeze with night time temps well below zero. Talked with a few guests that went out riding last night and they said trails are icey in spots with anything from not so good to fair/good conditions on the inner trails. I still haven't been able to log into the trail cam and get video from it. But at least it's still uploading pictures to the site. Guess I'm going for a walk here pretty soon.
Here's Todays Video for..........
PICTURE THIS!!!! Your riding down 4th lake cruising at 30 making your fresh tracks enjoying the view of million dollar homes wishing you had one. Then BOOM the ice starts crackling all arouned you, your track starts sinking, You gun it only to learn your track is dropping lower, You quickly panic and BOOM you find yourself in icy slush water with 50lbs of gear on. Your flapping those arms with nothing to hold onto. Your buudy is behind you not able to get to you, 30 seconds go by and your getting tired cold, your mind is spinning, YOUR GOUING TO DIE. STAY OFF ALL BODIES OF WATER, WE NEED AT LEAST 2 WEEKS OF SOLID COLD WEATHER. I AM A SEASONED ICE FISHERMAN, WHEN I SAY ITS SAFE THEN RIDE. ONLY 3 INCHES. WE NEED AT LEAST 5-6 FOR SAFE RIDING
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reality check! If you have no regard for your own life & the family you leave behind then please think about the firemen, emt's & police who put their lives on the line to rescue you. Also the people that have to recover your sled (at your expense) & the pollution to the lake from fluids in your sled. All because of stupidity!! He is right, when you see pickup trucks on the ice you can go too. I appreciate the fisherman's knowledge of safety! Please let us know when the 5-6 inches of ice has formed. Thanks!
DeleteGuys dont go anywhere near those lakes in TOW unless you hear from Steve its OK.
DeleteIts deadly right now...
Don't know where you're getting your info, but the ice out away from shore is in the 6" range and above. Still some sketchy spots nearer shore or moving water. By Tues or Weds they should be good to go.
DeleteThis poster is ignorant. You from NJ? Stay away from the lakes until your sure.
Deletedont cruise along at 30 ,fly at 60 plus and u mite be okay. BUT know where ur headed.. dont be an idiot, and think first about how long it takes the emergent care to get to you...Dont risk ems and FF lives cause u wanted to get a PBR. Bottom line is dont be an idot. Risk VS benefit....

ReplyDeleteA few days ago i said wait until you have a foot of ice and 3 guys said i was stupid. I've been riding since 1968. What do i know? Stay on the trails for now. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteA foot of ice for ?...... oh a tank.
DeleteNo, not for a tank. for you and your friends that stop in the middle of the lake to tie your shoelace. then someone's machine won't start, or someone's had to many. maybe somebody lost a friend years ago.
Deletewow...that's a well put narrative.
ReplyDeleteI dont want to encourage lake riding but Big Moose has 10 Inches
ReplyDeleteNo way!!!!! Not even close. Do not ride then you encourage others thinking its safe. You may get lucky but the others might not that follow.
DeleteThe friendly ice fisherman,, read my above post. Only 2-3 inches. Can not stress enough
Big Moose lake has only 4" of Ice.. Be safe wait a week..
ReplyDeleteHopefully the 50 mph winds will keep the exposed surface clean for a while... That's the ticket.. Till 3/30
DeleteI am still sure you can have safe ice
ReplyDelete.. As long as you are looking at it in a Glass of CROWN ROYAL.. Then inbide...
Burning snowmobile at the Info Center!?! Now the cam is facing the water. Hope whoever it was is OK, and they put that fire out before it spreads to the board there.

ReplyDeletewhy would some dum ass rite that the lakes are ok when you have someone from the area that ice fishes and drills holes in it .think the ice fisher man is the exspert in this case ,so go back home if all you do is worry about riding lakes . the fire men have better things to do like spend time with there kids
ReplyDeleteDon't throw stones if you live in a glass house Anon @ 4:03. You have 6 spelling errors in 3 small sentences. I won't even touch the improper punctuation at this point, but we'll address that issue following your next post...at least copy and paste it into word for some help if you are a youngster. -Dumb, write, fisherman, expert, firemen, their
