The local news last night said the band of lake effect was only about 10 miles wide. By what I saw on the radar today, the main band wasn't coming inland more than about 30 miles. Outside of the main band there was snow, but it has been light and we got about 2 inches today from it. I had someone post asking about the lakes. I will tell you when to stay off of them, that is for sure. But I won't ever be telling you to go on them. Because there can always be just that one spot that isn't safe, sorry.
Here's Todays Video for........
I heard someone say they put the trees up on stillwater reservoir. Do they go from stillwater over to beaver river??, and if so, can you see them from the restaurant in stillwater, or do you have to go out on the reservoir a ways before you see them?? I've been across the reservoir a few times in years past, but I'm trying to recall if I ever saw the trees. Also, I'm generally a little leary of lake riding, but if they had recommended paths I'd be happy to follow them! Any help would be great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes then tree are in BUT the tracks at the other end dont have enoph snow. There was Sleds on the lake today.
ReplyDeleteThe trees are great they help alot. Just call joe at stillwater he is always honest about the cond.
ReplyDeleteThe lakes wont see me until 8 . Be Safe...

ReplyDeleteI go north, east and west! Witty comment! I hope that one doesn't get deleted bc it was actually an educated way of asking something that everyone has wondered. I will move to FL when I am old enough for AARP. But right now, I just wanna ride!
Deleteall at the same time pinky? wow!!!!!!!

DeleteFor the 3 that Steve deleated use use your head as Steve posted there are young ones that visit this site. Your not in a bar room on here.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve
With all due respect....1:28.....you're right; we aren't in a bar room. Nonetheless, if there are actually young ones who are reading this then it is likely that he or she has been in a bar room while snowmobiling. We have made innocent references on here without using foul language. It is fair to say that the youngsters have heard far worse while riding sleds around with ma and pop. We respect Steve, and we won't push his buttons, but as for you 1:28....back off.
Deletegnarley sled groomer accident. surprised it doesnt happen more.
ReplyDeletehttp://newzjunky.com/police/coplog130123lcso.htm
Dont you foolz realize that Pinky is a dude?!
ReplyDeleteRiver rat even though your not in a bar don't u think u should grow up!! This site is used as info for people who want to come up n snowmobile NOT hear u act like a child to get attition maybe your NOT getting at home so unless your going to add to the conversation (unlikely) GROW-UP!!! Have a little respect for the person who put up the web site n stop thinking of yourself!!!!
ReplyDeleteexcept when you talk about road conditions. then you get bloged out like pinkydoo!
DeleteI saw a truck on Big Moose plowing the drag strips. If Big moose lake has enough ice for trucks.... There's definitely enough ice to at least ride 4th lake. I would say the rest of the lakes will be good to go after this week of cold. The sub zero temps make good hard ice very fast.
ReplyDeletebig moose always freeze before 4 th lake.be careful!
DeleteI quess its time to simply view Steves videos
ReplyDeleteand bypass the comment section. To read an
informative post many non relevant ones must be
bypassed. As a family of snowmobilers we subjected
young ones to the bars as they were a place to warm up.
Fortunately the kids realized that alcohol has interesting
effect and probably are more responsible drinkers from their
first hand experiences. Maybe Steve needs to lock down the
comment section for the remainder of the season. It would be
easier for him
Thanks Steve
promise you wont come back?
Deletelets talk roads again... what a sham
DeleteI have known Steve since the ’90’s and have stayed at his place many of times. He gives truthful reports and set up this site for just that reason. Giving snowmobile trail conditions. Some come on here and think this is like other forums and can cause havoc here. Even if you don’t stay at his place he is cordial to you when you may phone him either for a room or trail conditions. It’s nice of him to take his time and money to set up the cams around Old Forge so be respectful and watch what you post here. Steve also volunteers his time to the town. If your young learn from some of us old timers that this is not a “ME WORLD”. RESPECT one another.
ReplyDeleteSteve Thanks for giving us this site and for your time.
Hey 532, see ya bud, no ones gonna care, you wasted your time typing that pal. xoxo
ReplyDeletepinky were are you ? this 532 guy needs a good bloging!!!!!!!. to calm him down.
Deleteeveryone can see just how smart you are 6:36
DeleteHey Pinky, wanna meet up at big moose this weekend? We can spend the entire day running up and down the plowed strip?
ReplyDeleteLooks like brief warm up next wed. I guess it's a wait and see?
ReplyDeleteDan here on rondaxe rd. Stop speeding, this in not a landing strip. Don't make me take out the 12 gauge
ReplyDeletehey dan did you see pinky's new sled? it's a ac prowler.
DeleteHey there 532.... If you do not like the comment section, then why read it or write on it? Stay off and just watch the videos. I'm sure this helps him out huge for business.
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteSorry but you should be ashamed to allow some of the things that are being written here. This is a black eye on old forge snowmobilers
the biggest black eye up there is what they do to the roads!now they are paying for it more & more every year & they are too dumb to realize it or they just don't care!
Deletewhy should steve be ashamed?? He does the best Job. Its people that complain about conditions..and so on and so on
DeleteWow really??. So glad to be coming up tomorrow so I don't have to read this nonsense for a few days!!
ReplyDeleteI really cannot believe the disrespect on here for Steve and other snowmobilers/posters! What happened to common courtesy? Steve volunteers his time and resources to provide reliable information for snowmobilers. Thank you Steve for all you do! There are many more of us out here that appreciate you...we just don't usually post comments.
ReplyDeleteVolunteers? Are you a simpleton? Its how he fills the hotel.
DeleteWho cares why others assume he volunteers...does that give people the right to behave this way? I have never posted on here before...the insults only prove my point. I appreciate his reports and when posters provide helpful information...the rest of the rude comments are unnecessary, which is why I spoke up.
Deleteits time for steve to make it so you have to use email to get rid of this one or two inmature fools .hope my spelling was ok lol
DeleteNobody is insulting Christys. Its the town board. the highway dept they salt but they are under orders so look up town management..dont blame the labor.
Deleteyour right! right now the roads are hard pack and hardly sanded.at 27 below sand only blows off but wait till the weekend he will sand them end to end.cold or not.what a pleasure to drive around town in two wheel drive and no slop.he makes these roads more dangerous by putting all his home slop down.nobody is insulting steve he does a great job he cares about this town motel or no motel and loves to ride like all of us up here!
DeleteSorry to interrupt, but could it be possible to get a trail report? Has anyone been out riding?
ReplyDeleteGeez, it's getting like a yahoo board over here.
fair to ok. need more snow in areas. Althouh the trails are pretty fast. Stay away from trail 5 horrible. trail 1 gets ruff at the fork near the brantingam cut. Trail 10 horrible, trail 8 is good. Moose river plains for the best ride. 75 mph the whole way. Flat and fast. ride safe and stay right
DeleteDave
trails real thin. like 802 said out wed alot of ice. roads all hard and ice no lube.turned around went home.bad on the sled! and real cold 20 below this morning!
DeleteHas Indian Lake groomed into the plains? Trails were great there last Monday up until where Indian Lake takes it. So bad I turned around.
ReplyDeleteWhatch out for 802- 75 mph safe? So much for bringing your family out for a ride!
ReplyDelete110 on the flats!
ReplyDeleteThat's all? How about 125!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sham to stay they are just as they were decades ago.. they were better before better maintained for sled riders. For those who think global warming is the problem is not true. The truth behind global warming is not "WARMING". Its spectacular storms. Thats the actual effect instead of AFFECT.So to spell it out for those who dont know Global warming doesnt mean WARMER seasons it means more aggressive or unusual climate activity. Not necessaril warmer climates.. THUs Why is it well below zero now for multiple days..
ReplyDeleteNow that's the info I log in to read... THANKS!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.I wish people understood that more. I do beleive that the road conditions are a multiple town HUMAN factor. not climate. as its stated. in multiple forums besides this. Town management is gettin sued more and more by those with a lack of common sense so they beleive it is their obligation to protect themselves from litigation of lawsuits.. Its an unfortunate byproduct of society. Byproduct meaning scum trying to make a buck
Deletebs town has road insurance starting dec 1.leave snow on thr sides so we all can get around put a shue on the wing and everybody wiil be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
DeleteIn town since early today..... If the weather warms up without any appreciable snowfall.. Very soon.... his thin icy base will be history.
ReplyDeleteTrails are a 5..You .will need fresh carbides.. Moose and Stillwater.. Good with light snow Cover
Squeaky snow. Ffn cold - 4. With a adult wind chill. - @ - 20+
Need additional coverage.. IMO
the state of ny spends way to much on salt and makes everyone pay for it . no need for anyone to drive on that crap . slow down and you can drive on snow with no prob .the key word is slow down
ReplyDeleteit had just started snowing very lite lastnight down in hoosic area and the state came by salting heave and retuned 15 min salting again . whats up with that shit. got to vt and no salt and no problem driving . NY must have lots of money to spend ,oh ya they do everything is higher in NY .what a waist
