Put another log on the fire!

Because we are going to need it this week.  Temps are going to be below zero for about two days by the way it looks.  So those of you that have been waiting to get on the lakes.  This is going to help things get there that much faster for you.   When it get this cold, the ice on the roof starts cracking and poping as it gets colder out.  Sometimes it can be loud enough to wake you up at night.

Here's Todays Video for.......

  2. Cheer up its warming up to 1 (!) on Thursday daytime.

Anythings better (?) than -49 ( or -52 depends where you stood) record on Feb 19 1979.

I know. My 78 SRX was not made for riding that day @ -14!

    1. The coldest I have seen it since I lived here was 42 below. It looks like it's going to stay below zero for a few days and the weather people are all over it like it's a big deal. The good old days it stayed below zero for a week or two at a time and we thought nothing of it.

  3. Way back when I used to cut across a guy's lawn on Rondaxe Rd so that I could cross the lake. Then the dude went nuts on me one day threatening me with violence. Is there any way to cut through that way legally?

The only thing I can tell you for sure it that it was a Cat. Anything besides that would be guessing on my behalf.

Lake Effect Snow Totals and Historical Perspective
Posted by: Christopher C. Burt, 7:55 PM GMT on January 22, 2013 +1

An epic lake effect snow event started Monday around the Great Lakes. Some incredible snowfall totals have already been racked up.

    • Erie, Pa., officially picked up 16.3 inches of snow at the airport Monday alone, making it the snowiest January calendar day on record, and the snowiest day in any month for Erie since Nov. 29, 1979! Snowfall records there began in 1893.

    • Other parts of the city of Erie received as much as 24 inches of snow Monday.

    • Up to 18 inches of snow fell Sunday through Monday morning in Oswego County, N.Y., north of Syracuse.

    • Another 19 inches fell in Pulaski, N.Y., during the 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

    • In western New York, Ripley had a two-day total of 24.8 inches as of Tuesday morning with snow still falling.

    • A few places in northern Lower Michigan saw 10 inches of snow in the 48-hour period ending Tuesday morning.

    Historic Lake-effect Snowfalls

So how do these recent events compare to other historical lake-effect snowstorms? The Great Lakes of North America, being the largest fresh water bodies in the world, are unique in producing extraordinary snowfalls of this nature. The fact that they remain mostly ice-free all winter (except for Lake Superior) means that these snowfalls may occur during any winter month, although it is usually in the late fall (November and December) when the greatest accumulations occur since the lake waters are still relatively warm and able to provide more vapor to the atmosphere.

    2. Really? Then why did I just get done shoveling the walks. Did we get large amounts of snow? Like they did in a very small area on the south east end of the lake....No. We got the same thing they did up on the hill, a few inches.

  15. report from norridgewok is that the trees are installed in the ice and sled have been crossing....not sure about 4th but i would assume by the weekend it will be good...but always ask the local ice fisherman!!

  16. " Report from ice fisherman". Good evening everyone, I am the fisherman that reported 3 days ago. I was drilling today 300 feet off shore from daikers. The ice is 4 to 5. We will start bringing our huts out Tom. The ice is def. good for riding, although I wouldn't line them up close together like a parking lot, give that until the weekend for sure. Ride safe and stay right
