This morning......

I would say conditions where about the same, as just after the last warm up.  But after it being in the 50's and windy all day, we went down hill even more.  The one thing that we do have going for us, that we didn't have before.  Is some ice base on the trails, not alot but some.  But who knows how long that is going to hold up with the R they are calling for tonight.  It does look like they are increasing the snow totals for us after the front goes past.

Today's Video for..............

  1. Steve;
Dont we go thru a cycle where we have a no. of good winters with lots of snow and then we get
    a no. of bad winters.
Wasn't it just 3 years ago where we had a good
amount of snow, and 6 years ago when we got the
    valentines day storm.
I guess everyone has to be able to enjoy what mother nature gives us, the good , the bad and the ugly.
lets pry that things turn around fast.

    1. Nope 3 years ago it was the least amount of snow in the past 20 years. And its not really the snow problem as being alot or alittle. You can have a ton of snow and it can all melt like it will do tonight. There is plenty of precip in the air, just dosent come around when its cold out.

  6. Instead of sitting home and whining and wishing for snow.. go seek it! We just got back from a 4 day trip to Colorado. Rode Rabbit Ears Pass and the Grand Mesa, smoothest trails we have ever rode with a 36 inch base. They are getting hammered now with snow and expect another 33 inches when its over. The area offers some great trail and off trail riding. Off trail you can find hood deep snow practically anywhere. The views are spectacular and the people are very nice and helpful. The trip if you do some research is very affordable.. most likely just as much as many of you spend in OF in a single weekend. We rented a 2012 Dodge crew cab diesel with a 4 place trailer and 2012 Arctic Cat M800's and stayed in a cabin. If your itching that bad to ride.. give it a shot. We enjoyed the trip so much we are heading back beginning of March!

  7. I think everyone needs to except the fact that this is how the weather is going to be now and in the future. We are not going to get the snow and cold of years ago. So from now on when it snows take advantage of it because it wont last.
Also i think its interesting that they turned off the outside lights at the information center and flat rock inn for the web cams.

    1. Hi Will,

The lights didn't get turned off. I think they got zapped the other day when we had a power problem. Because the weather station in the info got it also and I had to do some repairs to it, to get it back online. I'll bring it to the powers to be attention about the lights.

    2. Also we lost the nice white snow cover that makes it possible for the camera to see at night.

    3. Thats a very good response steve I hope people understand that, cause in the summer u cant see at all. The snow does make a huge difference. SOmething like Night vision technology applies here. Its obvious but someLike Mo and Ron may not accept that

  8. Hey 7:51..i have also Rode rabit ears pass and agree it was awesome!! Where did you get a good deal on cabin, trailer and sleds?? I went there on a ski trip and found a place to rent sleds... You should also try yellowstone national park for snowmobiling.., they are all guided tours into the park but it is well worth the time...However old forge is close to home and the people there are awesome!! Think snow!!!!

  9. Stayed in Kremmling CO @ Muddy Creek Cabins.. Great price and good people! Very clean and centrally located between a vast area of riding locations. Colorado Snowmobile Association has a website with maps and snow conditions. Better live conditions can be seen @ Colorado Open Snow or Colorado Snotel sites. There is a few places in Grand Lake that rent sleds. We looked at guided but couldn't justify the trip being led around on touring sleds like little shackled kids. On The Trail in Grand Lake, Grand Adventure in Winter Park, Colorado Back Country in Vail, Monarch Tours, and Extreme offer competitive rates depending on where you want to go and how. Some will even drop sleds off at the trailhead for you. 4-5 hours riding at that altitude and your cooked.. it wears you out. Hop on Snowest forums if you need more CO info.. You'll never experience anything better!

  10. Weather patterns run in three to four year cycles, since recorded weather history. It's a bit on the down for snow, but good for the people who like warmer, less precip. cycles. In the big picture, over many years, this is nothing. We will see more snow this winter, six to eight weeks of it. So keep those sleds ready to ride!

  11. I really appreciate the posted about sledding out West. I beleive everyone should try at least once but lets face it most can not. This is why we love Old Forge some much because it's only a 5 hour trip for most and for the price it is hard to beat. Steve keep up the post. We all appreciate the reports no matter if there are good or bad. You are not the weather man.

  12. I just have to laugh at comments like "Keep dreaming. Not this year. Riding is done." and "I think everyone needs to except the fact that this is how the weather is going to be now and in the future". Yes maybe the riding is "done" at this moment, but who do you think you are to "predict" what is going to happen in the future. Do you think you're a weather man, or a magic fortune teller? Give me a break. I can't get over some of you people. Thank god I don't have you as a riding partner, and I feel sorry for anyone that has to put up with you. You're fools for trying to tell us what is and is not going to happen weather/riding wise more than 24 hours out.

    1. Lets see if ur still laughing when ur sled is in the trailer (like it is now) because of no snow. Face it. The northeast has no riding season anymore. Face reality people.

  13. To all you crybabies out there saying that's it's over, done for the year, way it's going to be....... When things turn around in a few days, a week or whatever, stay home with your mamas. It's where you belong.

  14. National weather service posted a advisroy for late afternoon into tonight. The snow will come back, and we will be riding by the weekend with fair conditions. Good conditions by tues. Stop bitching, this is only a speed bump in a descent season.

    1. Good conditions by tuesday? Explain how that is possible with 4 inches of snow predicted. Hahaha. You guys are simply in denial.

  15. It looks there are two types of posters here. Those where the glass is half full and others where it is half empty. I like the half full view and lets see what the Lake Effect Gods throw at us today. All the ingredients are there (temps, wind, warm lake, instability in atmosphere etc. etc.) with only one variable needed to be in our favor----wind direction. Optimism is different than denial.

    1. Another guy in denial. You hope all you want. That wont make make it snow.

      Delete
    2. See the first post from yesterdays blog. I stand behind the forecast. You are correct that hope does not make snow but the atmospheric elements currently in place DO. While there is no way to guarantee the total amounts of snow, since wind direction will determine the final outcome (a few degrees off could shut us down) 6-8" by tomorrow am is a real possibility. Here is some more ammunition for you so that you can spout some more negativity ------ Yes I am a meteorologist with a degree and 40+ years of experience in upstate NY winters. Your credentials are??????? Right now the models and upper air charts all indicate that there is a real good chance I will be smelling two cycle tomorrow.

  17. I have been told from a local dealership, that the town of webb is going to consider the use of atvs on the snowmobile trails, when there is less than a 3 in base. reg would be the same as snowmobile reg. lets wait and see what happens. With the warmer winters and lack of snow it just makes sense. I for one am all for it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That would be the worst thing that can happen. Atvs will destroy the trails.
But its all a rumor and it wont happen.

      Delete
    2. Many decisions/actiosn of TOW indicate phasing out sleds, doubtful ATVs will follow.

      Delete
    3. They will NEVER phase out sleds. The TOW would go bankrupt if they did. 90% of the business's would close.
Dumb comment. Think before you post next time.

      Delete
    4. 90% of businesses would close? (following that logic only 10% dont need winter business)

More than 10% ARENT EVEN OPEN in winter.
Dumb comment. Think before you post next time.

ADK Park has zero relation to fed reserve.
