Jamie and I went out riding last night and we had good conditions. Today it can't even be called poor, in my book. Is it over for the season, as some people have talked? I would say no, we have a long time before Old Man Winter gives up his hold on the north country. I just wish he would drink some Ensure and get some mussel back in his grip. These roller coaster weather patterns are getting to everyone. Forecast is calling for temps to drop and all we will need is a little snow on top after everything is frozen back down.
Update: 5:30pm Temp has dropped to 32. Let the freezing begin.
Let me clear up some misunderstandings about my report for today. We did not lose the base on the trails. The base we have is solid ice from all of the freeze and thaws that we have had this winter. The snow on top of the base took a beating from the R last night. Things are starting to freeze back down at 6pm as the temp has dropped below freezing and all we'll need is some snow on top of the base to be able to ride again. Will it be perfect conditions? Who knows, but at least it will be something to ride on, most areas have nothing.
Here's Today's Video......
Did over 100 mi yesterday trails were sweet glad we went up during the week, what a crazy winter,

3.44 is an example why it's not cool to ride so fast that you can't keep it right. Wrong side of the trail in a blind corner due to speed and/or ability = lucky!
DeleteSo sad.... makes me wanna cry
ReplyDeleteso are you saying it's worse than poor? or better than poor? still coming up just deciding on Thur or Fri. are the trails ridable?
ReplyDeleteTrails need to refreeze and we need more snow. Trails are not rideable, take a look at the oldforgeny.com web cams.
ReplyDeleteYou can save yourself some clicks of the mouse by going to www.oldforge.net The town uses my cameras on their site

Deletebut what steve said - there is material there it just needs to freeze up and it will be ok. plus an inch or so would help. so once it gets could what's there should be ok to ride.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding! mabye a foot or two after today.
DeleteSteves right 4 to 6 and well be in decent shape i was up there after one of the weekly thaws and got about 5 inches while i was there and trails were decent not great but decent.
DeleteI was up there in 1996 and had a blast. Took my new 600 XCR to the lake an was running 102 - 105 on the quarter mile track. We were beating 800's that day. Open the trails it's going to get better.
ReplyDeleteJabonie !
Heading up tp caribou Maine Saturday. 13 hrs from Rochester ny. About 2 feet of snow and excellent conditions. Long haul but should be worth it.don't look to good in old forge right now. Sucks.
ReplyDeletei rode sun and mon. cond. were great. They were calling for 2-4 sat night, they got 12 inches, even more in the interior trails. You never know with lake effect. Dont lose hope. Gouing to pittsburgh 2/17-2/23 Should be great.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it guys??? Things change overnight. A snowmobile enthusiast....out of all people, should know that is ok to bet against the house.....but you don't do it with a bunch of negativity. After tomorrow's video is posted, why doesn't everyone try to say at least one thing positive? I'm noticing a trend here, with the overall attitudes of the modern day riders: The technology spoiled most of you, and you are forgetting the days when it would be a rare sight to even see a groomer on a trail, let alone get a daily report and video. Suck it up. There is snow, there will be more, say something good for once, and if anything, show Steve some love for all he's done for us over the years.
ReplyDeleteSteve Thank you for doing such a great job! Giving us the bad and the good. Its great to know that when even you suffer greatly from it you still tell it like it is. thank you again. Nancy Lockwood
ReplyDeleteSnow snow snow, come on baby snow. We love you snow and we want you to come out and play with us because we love everyone. Fa la la la la la la la come on snow, please come and snow. YAY
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's My inner Bill Murray.. OF winter seems to be like.. the movie "Groundhog day" .. I wake everyday@6am, to see the same images.. and comments... and the next day...and the next..

ReplyDeleteweather guru

ReplyDeleteI cant wait to fire up my big PINK SKIDOO and ride those HARD trails again. YAY
ReplyDeleteI wonder if my 2012 Arctic Cat 1100 Turbo will overheat if I try to ride this weekend?
ReplyDeleteI hope it snows, my 14000,00 snowmobile needs a good cleaning out. i'm thinking about putting wheels under it so I can use it more then twice a year. forge should have plenty of snow this year, but maybe not. the snowdeo should be pretty fun this year , if it snows.
