By the way things are looking, it's going to get even worse, before we may see anything to get excited about. So what's everyone been doing, since you haven't been getting in any seat time? If it's something interesting, how about sharing and giving the rest of us some thoughts on what to do during these boring winter days.
Today's Video................
I should have made this comment yesterday, Back in the seventies when I started to go to Old Forge the normal depth of the base on the trails was ten to twenty inches, and that usually was from Christmas week till April. When did the trails of Old Forge last have a base of those depths?
ReplyDeletewell they would have that much depth during a normal season. You didnt have nearly the traffic back then that we have now. The traffic kills the base.
DeleteBack then the motels were full on the weekends, not a room to find from OF to Inlet the area did well back then
DeleteYou young people have no idea what it was like back then. Had more snow than you knew what to do with, it was a winter wonderland
DeleteI remember back in the 70's (6yrs old) riding from speculator to old forge the amount of snow that was on the ground was amazing.
DeleteNever liked crossing the railroad trestle going to Beaver River, that was before the trail was put in around it and it wasnt groomed. It was a hard ride but had alot of fun.
DeleteLast week W, TH and Fri, found snow from Flatrock to Barnes Corners. Trailer from OF to the Hill for the first time. Trails were groomed and put on a couple hundred miles. It was a PIA to trailer back and forth...but we did ride.
ReplyDeleteWell the only thing i can say is start working on the lawn mowers
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about doing the same thing with trailering over to the timberview but now even that is in jeopardy..the rain will destroy any sliver of base that is out there now...maybe snow next week...it's been tough to handle this disappointing winter...mother nature has really dealt us a bad blow this year...the worst I've seen in my 14 years coming to OF...When the hell was the last time we had no riding in February???
ReplyDeleteThis is why I quit riding 2 years ago. Sold everything, trades cold for warmth and moved to Florida. Everyday a beach day. Lol
ReplyDeleteYou got that right douglas. I have 2 older machines. Last year dumped a grand on maintenance for both sleds and rode once. That's not including the 700 for permits, registration, insurance ect. For NY,NJ.
DeleteWe were stuck in jersey digging out from
record snow fall last year. This year 600 down the toilet. Sleds rotting on the trailer.
Can't sled, so I'm skiing at McCauley and hiking here and there.
ReplyDeleteHa ha...I'm one of the lucky ones whom doesn't have to buy stabilizer and go through the entire maintenance process on our sleds...cause thanks to Mother rotten Nature and her side kick El Nino, our sleds never left the garage this season! Yipppee Kai Yeyyyyyy
ReplyDeleteRiding my bike in the basement on the trainer.
ReplyDeleteAlso, raking the leaves I neglected last Fall. Blech.
Imagine the impact on businesses..Steves place not to mention all the places that rely on sled traffic to pay the bills...tap room, pine tree, SW, BM station..never feel bad for Daikers...that guy makes a fortune in the summer !!!
ReplyDeletesee a few sleds running the tracks in Big Moose Good for them it may end soon
DeleteThis endeavor.. Sport.. Pastime..
ReplyDelete... has turned into what they would call a bloodsport!!
366 miles of riding in the area so far. My worst was 500 over the decades of riding in OF. It's not looking good but ya have to be ready to go at the last minute if you want to ride. I think we will get a few more shots at it.
ReplyDeleteSo where does all that money go they are saving from not having to groom the trails? Perhaps they will send everyone some sort of rebate? Lower the fee for next year? Donate it to help fund the presidential campaigns or climate change initiatives?
ReplyDeletedream on going to add on to the Packer Shack dont know why with the way winters are going
DeleteMaybe tissues to wipe your tears.
DeleteNext Wed into Thurs calling for 6-10 Hahahahahaha. It will change to rain by Saturday forecast. Every week same thing Ugh
ReplyDeleteI believe we will get over a foot next week...problem is the base will be gone...kinda hard to build a base in late Feb...Daaa Fuuuuuu...????...LOL
ReplyDeleteEnjoying family time and hoping and praying for just one more ride this season! We got new sleds this year aND only 1/4 of the mIles we would normally ride.. All I can say is, next year will be better!
ReplyDeleteOpen the pool Steve
ReplyDeleteI got those old forge blues baby.
ReplyDeleteNever got to ride one time.
I say, I got them old forge blues baby.
Never got to ride one time.
Lost alot a money honey.
All I gots in one thin dime.
If I can't get to that trail.
I'm gunna lose my mind.
Ooohhhh Yeah....
don't quit your day job King...
ReplyDeleteYou should hear the guitar part man.
DeleteI'm mean, it's some heavy blues...
You know, like no snow. Dude?
Great chord progression. Anyway, thanks,
I knew you'd like it.
I've been riding my ATV and cutting firewood for next year. We have also watched some videos of the snows we had back in the 60's. Young folks today wouldn't believe how much snow we used to get back then. Remember crossing the road and stepping over the top of the phone wires the banks were so high. SOme say it's all cyclical, I sure can't wait until the next cycle if it is. Hope I make it that long.
ReplyDeleteYup just kept waitng for it to get better never happened should of went in January.
ReplyDeleteHad a great mid week ride in Maine. Caught Bruce Springsteen in Hartford Ct. on a Wednesday night , stayed over and drove up to West Forks Maine and rode Thursday and Friday. Put on 225 miles pretty quick and back in Jersey Saturday afternoon. Only ride this winter and missing Old Forge big time!
ReplyDeleteWhat happen to totes?
