is looking pretty good. Yes, Tuesday might have some mixed weather. But it's going to very short lived and the rest of the week is winter all the way. This upcoming weekend is the ice harvest in Raquette Lake. For those of you that haven't every seen this, it's pretty neat to watch.
Today's Video for..............
What's an ice harvest?
ReplyDeleteThey cut the ice on the lake into blocks and floot the blocks to land. Then they load it onto a truck and haul it to a ice house. There it is stored for use during the summer months.
DeleteWhat time does the ice harvest begin?
DeleteThey start around 8 or 9 in the morning and go till the ice house is full, which takes most of the day.
DeleteDon't forget the sawdust! That was used to keep it from melting.
DeleteYou must go way back trail king, sawdust not used any more.
DeleteThat was a joke son, and it worked. They used sawdust way back before refrigeration. Stay thirsty my friend.
DeleteTrail King you need to go up and watch this. There is no refrigeration involved, or small bits of wood left over from the round metal object that seperates big pieces of wood into smaller pieces. You can watch from the lake part right into the ice house where it is stored. I'm never thirsty, drink too much too often.
DeleteOK. I'll check it out. Do they do it every year? I can't afford to drink, i need the money for gas!
DeleteIs the ice harvest sat or sun?
DeleteIf you go on "YouTube" and search for "Ice Harvesting in NY" you'll see several different video clips.
