No riding for you today !

Yesterdays melt down hurt us for now.  But the most important thing is the base is still holding.  We are so lucky that the groomers got out early this year and started packing the trails when they did.  Because if they hadn't, we wouldn't have the base we do now after these warm ups.  So no riding for you today.  Not unless you want to spend a few bucks at the dealer fixing your sled back up.

Cross your fingers...........

I just looked at the radar and the R is just starting to hit New York State.  I'm just hoping it gets in and out fast.  As we really can't take another big shot of warm weather and R.  Traffic was light today and the few that did go out had a nice day of limited riding.

Today's Video...…..

Fast update..........

Got three inches off the lakes yesterday.  Not much, but enough to help keep the sleds cool.  There are a few people out and about riding.  But in my book, I think conditions are still thin and if we saw a normal level of people in the area riding, it wouldn't last more than a few hours before it was down to dirt.  I'll have some video later today.

Merry Christmas Everyone !

Well I hate to say it but we aren't having a replay of last Christmas.  It's white, but that's about it.  I shouldn't have, but I did go out and got some video for you guys.  Because by the way the forecast is looking, this is the only riding most of you will be seeing this week.  I'm hoping the forecast changes and the next warm up goes away.  Because we can't take to many more of these warms up before we're back to zip for base.

Hope you enjoy the ride and Merry Christmas!

Doesn't look like...............

After looking at the forecast and the shot we just took from this weeks warm up.  I hate to say it, but it doesn't look like we're going to have a replay of last years Christmas week.   Over night the temps dropped back down and we did get a dusting of snow.  But not enough to bring things back around, that I can tell you to get up here and go riding.  I did see a few sleds up at Enchanted Forest gas when I was getting video.  I'm hoping Santa has a set of carbides for them.  Because I think they'll need them if they plan on putting in any amount of seat time.  Hope you got all your shopping done.

Not enough.........

Things are freezing back down from this weekends warm up and I was hoping to see more snow than we got today.   In my book, what we got today isn't enough to keep the sleds and rail cool.  There is a good hard pack out there, but we need some new snow on top for cooling.

Let me add this in.  At 5:30pm it is snowing pretty good and if it snows like this all night we could get some riding in this week yet.  But like always only time will tell.

2:15am update.  Just got back from Christmas shopping and there is a good 3" of new snow in the parking lot.  It's still snowing, but after looking at the radar it looks like the bands and starting to fall apart.  But even at the rate it is snowing now we could see another inch or two by morning.  Also just noticed that the temp is at 12.  Temp was around 20 most of the way home from Utica.

Today's Video...…..

Saturday, December 15, 2018

Thank goodness..........

We dodged the bullet last night and the R stayed north of us.  So all we had to deal with was warm temps over the last few days.  Things have gotten soft from the temps, but the melting has been limited.

Today's Video...…….

Friday, December 14, 2018

I was hoping........

Well it's a lot warmer than I was hoping.  You'll see in the parking lot video from this morning, that things looked pretty good.  But at 6pm we're at 39 and after looking at the radar loop we may see some R later on tonight.  Cross your fingers that it falls apart before it gets here.  As we really don't need to see any R, as things have already gotten soft from today's temps.   There's a hand full of people out riding.  But I would guess they are trail locked, as the roads are falling apart with these temps.  What a difference it makes, how conditions hold together much longer at the end of the season after months of cold.  Compared to now, with things getting soft after just a day of high 30's.

I got a ride in.....

Went out for a short ride and got some video, so you can see what it's looking like.  Cross your finger we don't see any R this weekend and with the cold temps and snow later on things are looking pretty good.

Today's video...………

Hoping it's fixed....

For some reason posts and replies where going to my spam filter.  So that is why things haven't been posting.  I think it's fixed or at least I'm hoping it is.  Like everything else time will tell.

Wouldn't it be..............

Just think how great it would be, if the season keeps going, the way it has started out.  With cold temps, snow in the air and warm ups that only last a day or so.  There's a good amount of people in town for SnoDeo and they are enjoying the trail conditions we have this year. After watching the trail cam over the weekend. I'm putting my money on the base having a great start for the season.

Freezing down...............

Yesterday morning things had already started to firm up and with the teen temps yesterday things are firming up fast.  All we need now is to get the snow that is in the forecast.  As you can see road riding is out until we see some more snow.  Also the snow stick out front is showing just under a foot.

Today's Video...…...

Monday, December 3, 2018

Change over has started........

We have seen R on and off this morning with temps above freezing.  At 2pm the change over has started and we now have snow coming from the sky again.  Cross your fingers that it stays that way and the freeze down begins.

Give it a chance...............

I got a phone call this morning and I think my answer shocked him.  He wanted to know if I had rooms open for tonight, as he wanted to come riding, since the trails open today.  I said yes I have rooms open, but truthfully I wish you would stay home.  It was 43 yesterday and we had R.  It is still above freezing now and the driveway out front is a swamp.  The groomers have the trails flat as a board, but they are very soft, with many wet spots after the weather we just had.  All you will do is tear them up and the groomers can't go out and fix them as it is to soft.   So we all will have to deal with a frozen in mess the rest of the winter.  Please give it a few days of cold weather so things can freeze back down.  Would I have liked to take his $$?  Sure but sometimes you have to look at the big picture.  The big picture being we have everything in place to have the best base we have seen in many years.  A base that will get us through warm ups later on and back out riding much faster. But you have to give it a little time to set up.

First ride of season.............

Got my first ride of the season in yesterday.  Had to go to the top of McCualey  to reset the cams.

Thursday, November 29, 2018

First one of the season.............

Here's the first of I hope many videos for the season.  We have the snow, but we really need to see some colder temps than we have been.  As the ground is still warm and all this snow makes it hard to get any frost in the ground.  The groomers have been out packing things down.  So that should help set the trails up faster.

To one and all ! !

Hope everyone has a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!  Eats lots, laugh more and be happy for all we have.

Temp dropped to 5 below this morning and they are calling for it to be even colder Friday morning.  Stillwater has ice on it after this mornings cold and first and second does also, but the top of fourth is still open.

Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Off just a little!

Forecast calling for light snow, maybe 1 to2" in some areas.  We're at a good 4 plus and it's still coming.  Was looking at a picture from 2/26/2016 the other day and the piles of snow out front are bigger than the ones in the picture already.  Who knows, this could be the year.  That we'll be saying, remember 2019 when the ………….

Starting out good!

We got a foot or more of good packing snow over night and today there has been light lake effect in the air.  No videos at this time.   I upgraded my computer and it doesn't have movie maker in it.  So if anyone knows of a good replacement for movie maker please let me know.

Sale ends tonight...............

Don't forget, midnight tonight is the cut off for the preseason trail permit sale.  I know I'm late reminding everyone.  It's the off season but there is still a lot going on around here.

We dropped down to 6 above this morning and at 9pm we have light snow in the air.  It'll be interesting to see what we get from this storm.  Last I looked they are calling for up to a foot.  We had 3 to 4 on the ground before this started.

Free Oil

I heard something about Polaris having some kind of special going on for oil.  Buy one get one free.  Not sure what you have to do to get it.  But it's worth looking into.

See more than before.......

The server company I was using for the live cam stopped offering that service last year.  So I'm using a different company and I think you're going to like it.   It does take a few seconds longer for the image to pop up than before.  But I think you'll find the wait is worth it.  Because the new image fills the entire screen.  Enjoy!

Saturday, November 3, 2018

So that's all it takes!

It's been a quiet morning here and I've been doing updates on things like the Christmas on Main Street website and so on.  Well one of the other things I did was change the motel site from leaf cam to snow cam.  I had been working on the computer for about and hour and the phone rang.  When I turned around and looked out the door the ground was white and we have big wet snow flakes coming from the sky.  So I guess all it took was for me to change the cam to make it snow.

Sunday, October 21, 2018

It's Coming............

We have a few flurries in the air this morning and you can see on the radar lake effect is firing up south of the lake.  Won't be long and the smell of two stroke will be in the air.

First sticking snow of the season !

We had snow in the air this afternoon and it stuck to decks and cars here in town.  But the top of McCauley got a good dusting of the white stuff.  Won't be long, 46 days till the trails open.  Let's hope for snow for SnoDeo weekend.

Friday, October 5, 2018

Frist one I saw.............

We had our first frost this morning.  A few areas had them before, but this is the first one I saw.  It won't be long and the white stuff will be coming from the sky.

Thursday, August 30, 2018

Won't be long.............

Snowmobile season must be just around the corner.  Because I got my first snowmobile magazine in the mail yesterday.  Won't be long.  So get them checked over and ready for the season.

Different Saying..........

Most places the saying goes......April showers brings May flowers.  But here in Old Forge it goes something like this.......April snow showers when May we see flowers.

Here's what it was looking like this morning......

White out at 7:45pm

It's funny, 20 years ago this was normal to see snow like this in April.  Then you have a few years of early springs and you start looking for them all the time.  It has been funny today.  One second it's white out conditions and the next it's partly cloudy.

Who's the wise guy?

So which one of you ordered the snow?  It's great when it's snowmobile season and we're all looking for it.  But come on, it's the 7th of April. I'm ready for some warmer weather and being able to go outside without putting on a coat.

Welcome...........

To the beginning of the 2018 - 2019 snowmobile season. It's only about 240 days away and you would think it's closes than that, with the way it's looking this morning.  Check out the Polaris IQ sitting out front.  What are the odds of it balancing on a brick when the snow melted?  If you have a second, please give me your thoughts on the question I ask in the video.

Happy Easter!

Another snowmobile season has come to an end and I'd say it was a pretty good one.  I didn't get in as much seat time as I had hoped for.  But some things are beyond our control.  So now it's time to get things ready for the upcoming spring, summer and fall season.  Unlike winter, they are back to back, with no real break in between.  Hope everyone had a great winter season and you have a fun filled summer.  If you have plans or do something fun, please share it.  As it may be something that the rest of us didn't think of and may want to try.

Is today the last?

There was a few people out riding today and they may have enjoyed the last of the season.  The night time low temps have helped slowed the melt down.  But as I'm typing, there is R coming from the sky and more to follow.  So unless we see a good coating of new snow.  It could be the time to put a fork in it.

No regrets..........

This is weekend three for the month, will there be a fourth?  I'm guessing the odds are very slim that there will be, with the warms temps predicted mid week.  But there is some snow in the forecast for next weekend.  Who knows maybe it'll be enough to pull off another one.  The people that did head north this weekend don't have any regrets, as fun was had by all.

Last Chance...............

If you have any thoughts of getting in that last ride of the season.  This weekend is going to be your last chance by what I'm seeing.   Trail 5 near Daikers and the roads are toast, but the rest of the system is the best I've seen it this late in the season in years.  Had guests return from an afternoon of riding and they told me the groomers are out doing their magic.  Local forecast is calling for light snow on Friday.  May not be much, but anything to keep the sun away is a plus.

Connection problem......

I'm sure most of you have noticed the cams on top of McCauley and the trail cam are offline. We had internet connection problems with the phone company yesterday and I thought for sure the system just needed rebooting to get things back online, but that didn't fix it.  I looked into it more and there is a problem with the line between the bottom of the mountain and the top.  So it's going to take a little more than a reboot to get things back online.  Cross your fingers it's something simple.

Ride it while we got it!

Forecast is looking OK for this week and the snow should hang in there.  I'm not thrilled about the few days of sun, but after that it looks like it'll be cloudy again.  The beginning of next week isn't looking all that nice at this time.  With warm temps and maybe some R.  Not much else to report besides......Ride it while we got it!

Today's Video..............

Two Day Post............

Today's video has Friday and Saturday in it.  Traffic was lighter than I thought it would be this weekend, with all of the new snow.  So all that headed to the north country got to enjoy some outstanding trail conditions.  The thousand dollar question is now, how long will the snow and conditions hang around.  Could we be riding till the end of the month?

Today's Video...............

Thursday, March 15, 2018

Weekend two is here................

Picked up a foot plus of great packing snow Wednesday and its still snowing at 3pm on Thursday.  Cold temps predicted for the weekend and no sun till Sunday.   So it's looking good for weekend two. Will there be a weekend three this March?  Only time will tell.

In like a turtle, out like a rabbit............

This storm has been slow and steady with the rate it's been snowing.  But by what I saw on the local weather, Wednesday afternoon is going to make up for the slow pace of Tuesday.  It's been the little dot flakes that add up slow, but pack down great.  Traffic has been light today and it looks like conditions should be good for the upcoming weekend.

Today's Video............

Monday, March 12, 2018

Good odds.......

It looking like the odds are going to be better for us to see more snow from this one.  As it's tracking inland more than the other storms and we started seeing snow around 8:30pm.  Warning has us at 6 to 12 by Wednesday night.  If so, we'll hit the two weekend average for March and who knows maybe it'll be three this year.

2018 Season is almost over.....

Hard to believe that the season is almost over and I'd say it was a pretty good one.  The hardest part on this year was the darn warm ups on Thursday and not knowing if things would come together for the weekend.  I hope everyone got in as much seat time as they had hoped for and you had a fun season. The video is a little long today, but I think you'll enjoy it.  Also check out the green sled in the bottom left corner, it sure got a work out during the day.

SnoFest 2018 going well...........

We haven't seen any big numbers when it comes to snow.  But we have seen enough to bring trail conditions back around and SnoFest 2018 is in full swing.  You would almost think it was mid February with the amount of people that are in town this weekend.

Today's Video...........

Snow all day..............

It starting snowing mid morning, but we haven't seen any big numbers as of yet.  Traffic has been light and the groomers are out doing magic with what they have to work with.  One thing that is almost always a plus this time of the year, is the snow is the good packing stuff.  So it doesn't take much for it to add up, unlike lake effect that is light weight stuff.

Today's Video......

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

5pm update still the same.............

The winter warning is still the same with 10 to 20 inches of snow by Thursday night and more for Friday and Saturday.  So Snofest 2018 will have demo rides by what I'm seeing.  The sun came out around noon today and you'll see that it looks pretty, but is by no means our friend this time of the year.

First one of the month..............

So is this like a robin sighting in the spring and what does it mean?  Do you think more will follow and could it mean another week of riding in the north country?

Gates are being opened as I type..............

Made a call to the powers to be and they just called me back that the gates are being opened.  They did ask me to pass on, that we had end of the season spring conditions before this snow.  So ride with caution as everything isn't going to be perfect.  But if we do get what they are predicting, you should be able to get in that last ride of the season.  All depends on how long the storm sticks around.

Just Out..........

OLD FORGE--The Town of Webb/Inlet Snowmobile Trails were temporarily closed at 8AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

Town officials in Webb and Inlet made the decision primarily for public safety. Natural resources and equipment preservation are also prime considerations. Recent unseasonable weather has resulted in rapid degradation of trail conditions. Many areas are now unsafe for travel due to lack of coverage, icy conditions, and minor flooding.

According to town officials and the trail maintenance supervisors, conditions are being monitored daily, and the trails will be reopened if possible. Substantial snowfall and cold temperatures will be required to provide safe and manageable conditions. Any minor snowfall now will only thinly cover potential hazards.

Notification signs are being posted at main entry points to the trail system, and access gates will be closed where possible.

DEC officials closed snowmobile trails in the Moose River Plains Wednesday at noon, citing “bare ground and icy conditions.”

Monday, February 26, 2018

Ice Skating anyone?

You'll see in the video, that most of the front yard is frozen over with solid ice.  To the point that you could ice skate on it.  The sad part is, the trails are getting to this point also.  With the warmth during the day and the cold at night.  But this may be a good thing, as solid ice takes that much longer to melt down.  So when and if we get that last shot of winter.  There will be some base left out there, for the last ride of the season.

Today's Video................

Sunday, February 25, 2018

Still some...........

Snowmobiling may be on hold for now, but there are still activities happening in town this weekend.  There was a ice fishing contest on the Fulton Chain, skiing at McCauley Mountain and I saw some kayaks around town also.  We may not want to see the snow melting away, but others are having fun from it.

Cold has returned..........

At one point today, the radar was showing R from Mexico to Maine.  But as the day went on it dried up and we didn't see all that much of the wet stuff.  The snow pack has gone down, but the ice is hanging in there.  Here's your snow fix for today. I should have enough footage to keep you going till the beginning of next week.

Today's Video........

Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Not sure.......

Today we had some light R, but nothing near what was predicted for us.  I'm not sure how we are going to fair tomorrow, as there is still more of the storm to come our way.  Thanks to Joe and Timm for dropping me the news story about the ice harvest on Lake Erie.  It's always fun seeing how things where done years ago.

Time for paper work............

The ugly got here mid afternoon and it looks like a few days of it before we start returning to winter.  So I guess it's time to sit and do paper work.  I'll keep everyone up to date on whats going on, as you can only tell so much by looking at the cams.  The second video is airplanes that landed on Stillwater taken by Snowman1.

Not a normal................

It's Pres. Weekend and it's not as busy as some years.  But I don't think there's anyone upset that they came to north country for a weekend of riding.  Forecast is still calling for some snow tonight and that will help us finish off the holiday weekend with some good riding.

Today's Video.............

Had some..............

This morning and again tonight we saw some snow in the air.  Nothing big, but enough to turn things white again after the R we had last night.  Everything is freezing back back, at least for now.  So we'll get a few days of riding in before the return of our next warm up.

Today's Video........

Starting to not like............

How many weeks is it now that we had bad weather on a Thursday?  I'm really starting to not like Thursdays at all.  Nothing worse than sitting on the edge of your seat, hoping everything comes together last minute.  So cross your fingers that things turn around and we get in another weekend of riding.

Today's Video............

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Cross your fingers..............

Forecast still has light liquid in it for Thursday and then back to winter for the weekend.  So cross your fingers the liquid is light and we get another weekend of riding in. Conditions are about the same, roads are toast and trails overall are good.  But like always, I'm sure you can find an ugly spot here and there.

Today's Video................

Full day...........

Everyone cleared out by 10am and didn't see any of them back till dark.  One group headed to Brantingham and Dave said it took him sometime, but he did find a trail they didn't have groomed in the flats.  The thousand dollar question is, how are we going to fair this weeks Thursday weather.

Today's Video........

Monday, February 12, 2018

May not be perfect............

Not that you can really put much stock in the long range forecast.  But if it comes true, the conditions we have this week are going to look like gold by the end of next week.  So ride it while we got it.  Skies are clear tonight, so we should drop below zero by morning. Everyone had a good day of riding and think conditions should be better tomorrow.

Today's Video...............

Video fix........

I'll post a conditions report video when the camera comes back for the day.

Ride safe and stay alert !

It's going to be a very busy weekend here in the north country.  Keep in mind that the trails have a solid ice base and the snow on top doesn't always hold when going into the corners or braking hard.

Today's Video...........

Didn't see much..........

The lake effect that started up last night didn't amount to more than a dusting by morning.   It's getting to that time of the year, when the sun really isn't our friend.  One of the pick ups had ice hanging from the fender this afternoon, that was snow on the hood this morning.  So just one little bare spot in the road can be huge by the end of a sunny day.  At 10pm the lake effect is firing up tonight again.  So it'll be interesting to see what we have in the morning.

Today's Video...............

Steady all day...........

The snow started this morning and came at a steady rate all day.  It was more like little dots than flakes and it didn't take it long to pile up.  The few people I did see and talked to, said the riding was great today.  Groomers will have a day or so to work it in and get things ready for the weekend.

May not be one.............

If tomorrow's forecast comes turn and with everything that goes on around here.  I may run out of hours in the day again and not have time to put a video together.  Because if we get the snow they are talking about, I can see I'll be spending many hours in the plow truck.

Two day video..............

Between plowing snow, snow blowing and being Sunday, which means just about everyone checked out and a whole new group came in.  I ran out of hours and got done with the plowing around 10:30 last night.  So today we have a two day video, hope you enjoy it.

Lowell Bailey claims it was here in Old Forge that he "first put on a pair of skies." He moved to Lake Placid with his family when he was 10.  He also will be in the Biathlon at the 2108 Olympics.  https://www.teamusa.org/us-biathlon/athletes/lowell-bailey

One last person to note is Erin Hamlin.  She's not from Old Forge, but Remsen which is just down the road about 30 miles.  https://www.teamusa.org/usa-luge/athletes/Erin-Hamlin

Over the years Old Forge has sent three others to the Olympic stage.....John "Louie" Ehrensbeck, Hank Kashiwa and Gary Vaughn.

Got a better picture.................

Many stayed home this weekend because it looked like the riding wasn't going to be all that great.  But the last minute snow we got Thursday night really made a difference.  It gave a better picture, to the people that came to the area for the free weekend, what the area has to offer.

Could be the pick week..............

If the forecast comes true, next week could be the pick week of the month.  But like always, only time will tell.  Till then I guess we'll just have to settle with the conditions we ahve and smile while enjoying some seat time.

Thousand Words...........

Look what four inches of wet snow can do.

Never can tell........

Some said we would and others didn't have any snow in the forecast for us tonight.  But low and behold we've been seeing snow on and off ever since sunset.  We have 2 plus of nice heavy wet snow on the ground at 10pm.  Cross your fingers it does this all night and we'll be all set for the weekend.

Sorry.....

It's hard trying to tell you how things are with words, so I'll just show you.  Sorry it's so long.   I can tell you this with words.  If you're looking for perfect conditions, it isn't out there at the time of this post.  But that can change in a matter of hours here in the north country.  I can tell you we have rideable conditions, with some ugly here and there.

Slow and steady.............

Had snow in the air all day and we saw about two inches.  No nothing to jump up and down about.  But a few inches each day this week and we'll have 8 by the end of the week.  Thursday and Saturday have 1 to 3 and 3 to 5 in the forecast.  Cross your fingers and get dancing!

How long will it be?

That is the thousand dollar question.  The pressure has been dropping and there has been snow off to our west all day, but it just doesn't seem to be moving this way very fast.  There is snow in the forecast  over the next few days, so cross your fingers that we see enough to turn things around soon.  The high today was 34 and the low was 24.

Didn't dodge it.............

We didn't luck out and dodge the R over night. It showed up for many hours and it sure didn't do us any favors. The snow only went down about two inches on the snow stick out front. But what it did do is ice everything over. So the trails are hard with very little snow for cooling. The only action to show you today was at McCauley.

And it continues...........

We saw another quiet day around town.  I'm crossing my fingers we get enough new snow to bring things back around after the R that's coming from the sky now.  But only time will tell, so keep an eye on the cams for whats going on.

Another quiet one..............

It was quiet around town today again.  There was more traffic than yesterday, but nothing like you see on most Fridays.  Today our high was 31 and the low this morning was 10 below.  Trails where hard first thing this morning with 10 below temps.  I saw quite a few people going onto Stillwater Res. heading to Beaver River today.

Quiet day................

It was a very quiet day around town today.  Only saw three or four dozen sleds getting gas all day.  I do have some rooms coming in for Thursday and Friday night stays, with Saturday being an option if the weather holds.  Besides that there isn't much to report or going on.  Let's hope the weather turns to our favor soon.  Because we can't afford to have more snow melted away.

We got spoiled...............

The last few weeks got us spoiled, with old time trail conditions and all the roads frozen down solid.  Now conditions are back to what we have seen the last few years.  Is it picture prefect?  No, but you are able to get some seat time in.  Two different groups went out today and both of them did a hundred plus miles.

Quik Update............

Tuesday, January 23, 2018

It's starting............

The lake is starting to fire up at 8:45pm, with light snow in the air.  Now the thousand dollar question is how much are we going to get.  It looks like we'll get a flash freeze over night, with the temp dropping to 10.  So cross your fingers that we'll see a good shot of the white stuff.

Today's Video............

The question is............

I saw it in the predicted wind direction and speeds.  That things may be shaping up for us to see lake effect when the temp drops back down.  The radar at 3pm is showing that it's starting off of Lake Erie and it's just a question of when it'll start around here.  I hope soon, so we can start freezing things back down.  More later.

Holding their breath.............

I have a few diehards scheduled to come in on Tuesday and  they're holding their breath that the cold temps will return and with it snow.  If it does, they're going to have the trails all to themself as there aren't many people around town right now.

Could it be?

There was a sighting in Old Forge last night.  Could it be that they do exist?

Next Generation............

The weather isn't looking all that great for next week.  Last week was a perfect example of how fast things can turn around.  So all we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best.  By what I saw, I'd say there was an above average amount of people in town this weekend.  Today's video has our next generation of rider out having a fun day of riding with his Mom and Dad.

Better than...............

And to think just a week ago the high was 50, with a low of 35 and R coming from the sky.  And today everything is back to normal, with light snow in the air and sleds everywhere.  Doesn't look like we'll see much sun over the next few days, which will help keep the roads frozen down.

Today's Video.............

A Reminder...........

I posted this many years ago, on how to get around town using the trails that are next to the roads in town.  The only thing that has changed is behind the school, which you no longer have to drop down onto the road to get around the parking lot.  The road info starts at the 45 second mark in the video.

Hope it helps with any questions you have..............

Back Open..............

Trail 1 is back open, but the deer yard loop is stilled closed due to flooding.

Free Weekend Update  I made a call to the powers to be and yes D Trump.   OF officials will be looking for in state border crossers and they will be giving out paper work with the address to send the check.

It's back............

The trail cam is back online, but you aren't going to see much action with trail 1 being closed at North Street.  Trails 1 is frozen down solid and looks really sweet.  Guess that's what happens when you have R and then the temp drops to below zero.   I saw a few people on it, checking out the once flooded area.  Almost forgot....we had snow in the air most of the day and we picked up an inch or two.  Looks like more tonight also.

Today's Video..............

Sunny and Cold............

Here's Monday's video.  Not much of anything went on during the day, besides it was sunny and stayed cold.  Today, Tuesday we do have light snow in the air.  I'll have more later on.

REGISTRATION-FREE WEEKEND

Here's the scoop on this years free weekend.  Please note the last four words in the release.  It's my understanding that the free weekend is for out of state riders only and NYS riders WILL need a trail permit to be on the TOW trails.  So to all the permit holders out there...your comments didn't fall on deaf ears.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has designated the weekend of February 2nd – 5th as a free snowmobiling weekend for all out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers. New York State registration fees will be waived for properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobiling enthusiasts.

The Town of Webb officials have announced participation in Governor Cuomo’s program, and will not require trail permits February 2nd (8AM) through February 5th (midnight) for any properly registered and insured out-of-state snowmobiles.

Forgot to include..........

When getting the video from Stillwater, I saw more than one group heading on and off of the reservoir. Is it safe?  I can't say for sure.  But the more people that pack it down, the thicker the ice will get.  I was planning on checking out to the trail cam tonight and getting it back online.  But with the trail flooded, that will be on hold till the water goes down.

Trail Cam...............

Ken checked out the trail cam for me and he said there wasn't any snow on the wireless bridge.  So I started looking at the other end of the bridge and with the amount of ice that is on the PTZ cam encloser.  I'm guessing the problem is on top of the mountain.

Today's Video............

Quik Update

We got half a foot or more of good heavy snow so far and there is still snow coming down. Trail cam is down and I'm guessing there is too much snow on the wireless bridge for it to work.  The groomers are back out doing there thing and with temps as low as they are trails should freeze back up fast.

Just off to the west........

The snow is coming and it's just off to our west.  By the way the radar looks, we'll be seeing a good shot of snow over night.  The R from last night took a toll on the snow, but the ice base seems to have held up pretty good.  So if we get the foot plus they are calling for, we'll be riding again soon.

So far so good...............

We got warm today, but we haven't seen any R as of yet.  So let's hope for the cold front to get here sooner than planned and we see more snow than R.  So for now, it's all just a waiting game to see how it all plays out.

Today's Video................

I'll keep you updated................

If we get all the R they are talking about, things could get ugly for the entire region.  But don't give up the ship just yet.  It won't be the first time we dodged the bullet and came out on the good side of the storm.  Time will tell and cross your fingers it turns out for the best.

Sorry about no post yesterday.  By the time I got a few second free to work on it, the day was over.  So I figured I'd just do it in the morning.  So here it is.

Got snow and more coming..............

We had light snow on Sunday night and this morning we have storm snow in the air.  Looks like we can get 3 plus before it's over.  Still calling for some R on Thursday, but I noticed that the word "chance" is now in front of the R word.  So let's hope that it doesn't happen and all we have to deal with is the warms temps for a day.  By Friday night it looks like we'll be right back into winter mode and frozen stuff coming out of the sky on Saturday.  Yesterday the high mileage riders for the day did 170 miles.  They headed over past the wind mills.

Not one complaint...........

Trails are groomed to prefection and only a hand full of riders are here enjoying them.  The guests I talked with today had no complaints and said they just took a few more warm up pit stops.  But starting Sunday I think we're going to see much more traffic in the area.  As many will be heading to town for the great conditions after the deep freeze and before the possible warm up.

Today's Video............

Friday, January 5, 2018

Now you're talking old school conditions..........

Our high today was 2 below and traffic has been light.  Trails don't get any better than they are right now and the few that are here are going to have a weekend that they'll remember for years to come.  Yes, it's going to be a little chilly and you'll have to make a few more pit stops to warm up.  But the riding is going to be a blast and there won't be any wait to get a seat to eat.

Time will tell...............

On New Years Eve there was a full moon, not a cloud in the sky and the temp was well below zero by 9pm.  So I knew it was going to be a cold one and it sure was, we dropped to 33 below in the morning.  There's a lot of talk about the temps for this weekend.  But they also are showing cloud cover and most times that helps to keep the temps warmer.  I'm guessing the good trails conditions, that you get with cold temps will make it worth having to deal with the cold.  So it'll be interesting to see how it all turns out by the end of the weekend.

Something a little different....

Now I knows what a news person feels like when there really isn't much to report.  Conditions are the best they have been in years and forecast is full of cold temps and snow.  So what more can you ask for, besides it to continue all the way till the end of the season.  There has been some light snow in the air this morning and if it snows like this all day we'll see 2 to 4 inches by the end of the day.  Today's video is something a little different.  Hope you enjoy it.
