Welcome...........

To the beginning of the 2018 - 2019 snowmobile season. It's only about 240 days away and you would think it's closes than that, with the way it's looking this morning.  Check out the Polaris IQ sitting out front.  What are the odds of it balancing on a brick when the snow melted?  If you have a second, please give me your thoughts on the question I ask in the video.

Today's Video...........

  1. It's really your decision. You've been doing this forever. If it's been on your dime the whole time. Then my question would be "would it be better for you if you're getting paid"? I would think the town fathers would be the one to support you as you drive business to "Old Forge" for the winter season when things are the slowest or closed.

  3. This is a Free market society I say put up Ads Look at it this way Why are you footing the bill for all of us, if the Blog was putting cars in your parking lot and people in the rooms then it's the cost of doing business and let it be , But if your getting snaked by people profiting off of you then that can't be tolerated. Make Some Money (MSM)and if you feel bad about that then invest some of the advertising monies in a better snow scale it's hard to read . or better yet have someone sponsor it.

  4. Most of fth adds on the other sites pop up over the content and contain malware. That's why I read your blog and post's it's a safe site.like wiki or CL....that being said I'd gladly donate if there was a link...but I think the adds would ruin the continuity of your page....but hey do what ya gotta do

  5. Not a bad idea to put ads. My only concern is, Old forge is a small town, A town where everybody knows everyone and everyone is friendly, and everyone supports everyone's business. I think you're the type of person that would find it difficult to let's say charge the pancake house to put an add up, or waltzes diner. I don't know where I'm going with this but in my opinion sometimes it's better just not to get involved. Everything is going great now, people like you, but once people think you're making money off them things change. The one thing I find messed up is that it's OK for other people to make money off of other people but for small business men like myself and you it's not acceptable, I don't get it

    1. I was thinking about using google adds on the side bar of the blog. The links on the motel webcam page I put up for free and change them around every so often. What burns my butt is pages that use my webcams and others to put money in their pocket. They don't have any time or money invested to keep them online, but they get rewarded for just putting a page together.

    2. As usual Dave is way off base and somehow makes this about himself, Steve you have a very unique opportunity every snowmobile mfg, clothing, equipment,Trailers it goes on and on knows where and what Old Forge is about, So to go beyond Dave's dinner placemat advertising mentality you could easily set up CPC ads with them and you wouldn't be doing anyone a disservice you may even be able to tie into some sort of discount if they go through your home page. I have visited the sites you are talking about that have your information on them and at first glance believed it was a co-share with reciprocity but the more I dug into it I see where it's not, look into CPC advertising your set up with the Only access to Old Forge is key.

    3. Take it easy there buddy. I didn't know where this was going. But what you say makes perfect sense. In my business I don't use computers, so I'm not a computer internet savvy person. This is new to me, and it sounds good.

  7. Steve, what about 'water marking' your videos. My understanding is if you do that others can't use your videos without your permission therefore they can't make money off your products. Love what you do & the fact you've always done this on your dime says much about you. Thanks again!

  8. I know a local new media man that takes photos of fires and accidents
He then send them to media outlets and has them tags them "Copyright by XYZ"

  9. I don't think you'll lose views, give it shot. You deserve it. I think you'll soften any negative impact if you somehow make the viewers feel like they have gained something because of you starting to advertise. Maybe upgrading the webcam,or adding a webcam.

  10. So long as the ads don't interrupt or interfere with what you're trying to do and what folks come have come to rely on and enjoy I say go for it. At the end of the day it's not for anyone to say how you do your business. Just don't let it dilute the original whole point. That's when you'll stop enjoying doing it.

  12. why not go for it.

  15. I say use the ads, as long as they aren't pop style on top of the content. Use the money to make the existing cameras more reliable and maybe add a few more around the area.

    1. Don't think you all know that the camera's reliability has nothing to do with the quality. The internet & electric goes down frequently & Steve has to physically go to the sites to reset them. He has to hike to top of McCauley Mt if no snow & has to ride out to trail cam etc. He has to do this on his own time while running the motel. Not to mention if no one is there to take the Camara out he has to come up with video himself by snowmobile, truck, or pull video & stills from cameras. This all takes time, lots of time!! And if the conditions are good his phone is ringing non stop with people calling to ask about the conditions many who don't even stay with him! Steve do what is best for you! The people who enjoy the blog will continue to follow it. Thanks so much for all your dedication to keeping us informed!! Much appreciated!!

  16. when you take peoples money for ads on your blog now you have a commitment to them.is that what you want another business venture.

  17. Steve, you should definitely be able to benefit for all you do for snowmobiling in the Old Forge area. You are the voice of snowmobiling in Old Forge and your blog is the first place I and many others go for I informative and honest trail reports. The Old Forge tourist center should be paying you for all you do; but since that is not likely, I think ads are an appropriate way to compensate you for your time and effort in promoting snowmobiling in Old Forge. Already looking forward to next season! Thanks.

  18. Hi Steve,
I think usefull ads are a great idea. If they are on the blog, people can choose whether they want to see them or not.
