OLD FORGE--The Town of Webb/Inlet Snowmobile Trails were temporarily closed at 8AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Town officials in Webb and Inlet made the decision primarily for public safety. Natural resources and equipment preservation are also prime considerations. Recent unseasonable weather has resulted in rapid degradation of trail conditions. Many areas are now unsafe for travel due to lack of coverage, icy conditions, and minor flooding.
According to town officials and the trail maintenance supervisors, conditions are being monitored daily, and the trails will be reopened if possible. Substantial snowfall and cold temperatures will be required to provide safe and manageable conditions. Any minor snowfall now will only thinly cover potential hazards.
Notification signs are being posted at main entry points to the trail system, and access gates will be closed where possible.
DEC officials closed snowmobile trails in the Moose River Plains Wednesday at noon, citing “bare ground and icy conditions.”
The FAT LADY sang and finished her song! Very, very sad indeed. Now get the town of Webb to open the trails to ATVs and save Old Forge!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone realize the most damage is to the sleds. or is this insurance companies seeing claims and a backlash from the dry years??? Over 35 years Ive never seen this. Nor has anyone . wow great , thanks for the visit Gov.. Its never been an environmental nor should it be now considering advances in engine tec. Sleds now are so much more efficient .There were some pretty dam hard dry spells over the decades... Or is the the new TOW trail master using his new powers to the extreme
ReplyDeleteWhat is the holy hell are you talking about the insurance company don't give a damn if it snows they rather it wouldn't "less claims" and when does the Governor care it's Upstate remember he'll come up to make a showing in hopes to get votes but his only concern in NYC , Plus all his hot air is probably the reason there's is no snow!! And here's another one If there isn't enough snow to safely ride , and Not damage the trail system the TOW trail master with his new extreme powers is doing his job!! So Think about it If we GET enough snow they will groom and open the trails back up , If We get enough snow and they don't groom and don't reopen the trails the business owners with raise a fit and you'll see a new Trail Boss come next year.
