The forecast isn't looking great by any means. But at least they took out the R for Thursday and Friday during day light hours. I'm hoping the R doesn't mess things up for the demo rides. I forgot to include in video that it looks like the Polaris rental sleds now have some red sleds also or maybe I just never noticed them before.
Every year I do a video to give everyone their riding/snow fix for the summer. I figured I'd better make it before it gets ugly at the end of the week. Hope you enjoy it.
It's the first of March, where did the season go? I'm hoping to get out for a few more rides before the weather changes. Cross your fingers we see limited R and this isn't the end of the season.
Over the winter you have heard me say Tony in my reports. Well Tony is headed back home and sad to say his riding season is over for this year. But he is already starting to plan for next season. Thanks for tagging along all winter. I wouldn't have gotten in the miles I did if you hadn't.
Something I haven't done in a long time. But it looks like the weather is going to be going downhill in the very near future. So get your riding in fast because the end may be very near. Forgot to include in the video. On the return trip from Wigwam we took trail 6 and it was in good shape.
Hard to believe it's the last weekend of February and it looks like things may be coming to a close on the great conditions we have had for most of the season. Being able to ride almost everywhere you wanted to on any given day. I'm guessing we'll get a few more shots of snow, but it will be springtime conditions and limited on where you can go.
I hate to say it, but it's still looking like things may be coming to an end after SnoFest weekend. Calling for temps to be in the 40s five days in a row. Cross your fingers that it doesn't come true. It would be nice to end the season on closing day.
Not sure how long it's going to last. But it's snow at a really good rate at 3:45pm. Guess who's going out riding tonight and enjoy it? Click on full screen on bottom right corner of picture to see it better.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM WEDNESDAY TO
7 AM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6
inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
They dropped the totals down from 3 to 7 to 2 to 6. I'm hoping the snow holds off till day light so cars moving around town will pack the snow down on the roads.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM WEDNESDAY TO 7 AM EST
THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7
inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
Went to Stillwater for dinner and zipped of 73 miles getting there and back. Cold has returned and the trails show it. Good to Great in my book.
It's that time of the year when you have to start thinking about spring time conditions. With last week's warm temps and sun it put a hurting on many of the roads. So, you have to think out your route before heading out for the day. You can get in some good seat time. Tom put on 175 miles today.
We got the 1 to 3 they had in the warning. On the deck this morning there was 4 1/4 inches. The upcoming week looks like it's going to be pretty good. Hard to believe we're going into the last week of February. When you get into March you never know how things are going to go. So, get in whatever riding you want to do this season yet.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST SATURDAY.
* WHAT...Wintry mix including snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet
and flat ice accumulations around a glaze up to one tenth of an
inch.
* WHERE...The northern and eastern Catskills, the Mohawk Valley, and
the foothills of the southern Adirondacks.
The thousand dollar question is, did we get it. At 8pm there was close to the 3 inches on the deck. I'll post in the morning what the total is for the day.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO 1 AM EST SATURDAY.
* WHAT...Wintry mixed precipitation expected including snow, sleet,
and freezing rain. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches
with a tenth to a quarter inch of flat ice accumulations.
* WHERE...The Mohawk Valley, the western Adirondacks, the foothills
of the southern Adirondacks, and the northern and eastern
Catskills.
Cross your fingers that we see snow this time. Not like the last warning that we didn't even see a snowflake.
I included something in today's video that could help you or someone close to you in an emergency. Hope you never have to use it. But doesn't hurt to know it.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON WEDNESDAY TO 4 AM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 6
inches.
* WHERE...Northern Berkshire County in western Massachusetts,
portions of the Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley, Schoharie County,
Helderbergs, Capital District, northern Taconics and Lake George
Saratoga region in eastern New York, and southern Vermont.
I'm hoping for clouds and limited sun till we see the cold return later this week. It sounds like the snow headed our way will be the good packing stuff on Wednesday. The long range projected temps have use staying cold into March after this week's warmth.
I said Tuesday they are calling for snow in the video. It's Wednesday that they are calling for snow. I'll take it any day they want to send it our way.
This weekend is always a funny one. Lots of people in town. But not always the same people you see other times during the season. This weekend you see a lot of families and people riding two up with the kids.
Please be careful this weekend and take extra caution. There will be a lot of people in town and I'm guessing many young riders with it being a Holiday weekend. The Fire Dept was dispatched for two snowmobile accidents on Friday already. Let's keep it at just the two.
President's Weekend is here and with the snow we got it's going to be a crazy busy weekend. So, give the groomers the space they need to do their thing and not have to stop for you. From a time when I worked on the groomers, it makes a Hugh difference on how much you can get done during your shift if you aren't stopping all the time.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches.
* WHERE...Herkimer, Hamilton, and northern Fulton counties in
eastern New York and Bennington and western Windham counties in
southern Vermont.
Yes, I know the Advisory will be over by the time you read this. I'm posting this entry at 2:45am and guess what. It's still snowing, I thought it was going to end at 1am. That's OK we'll take it.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TUESDAY TO 1 AM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5
inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of snow from a clipper system
and lake effect snow behind it will lead to moderate accumulations
across the Adirondacks. Snow will begin late Tuesday morning or
early Tuesday afternoon for a few hours before a brief break later
in the afternoon. More persistent snow followed by lake effect
snow showers will follow late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.
The forecast looks like this upcoming week is going to be another good one with temps being a little warmer. Tuesday and Wednesday would be my pic days with snow in each of them.
What do I mean by It's like Christmas Eve. 9:30 on a Saturday night and there no sled traffic going past the house or on the next street over. Did everyone get in a full day of riding and taking it easy or is it the cold? Maybe a little of both.
Hope everyone that has plans to get some riding in this weekend has a safe one. We have snow in the air this evening. Will be interesting to see what we get out of this one.
The 10 day forecast is looking better by the day. Just a few days ago there was only 4 inches of new snow in it and now it's 9 to 10. Even with the foot base we have now, we still need new snow to replenish the snow the sleds eat.
The few days that they are calling for partly cloudy weather shouldn't be a problem. As the temp are going to be on our side and should keep things frozen down even if we do see some sun.
If you haven't gotten to the area this winter yet and you plan to. I wouldn't wait too much longer. We are heading into the second half of the season and it doesn't get any better than it is right now.
I tried to put together a good video of the race at Stillwater. But it didn't work out as planned. I'll explain what went wrong in the video. The upcoming week looks like it's going to be another good one.
There is a race at Stillwater this weekend and I think it could be fun to stop by and watch for a while. Not sure how many people will be in it. But they do have a wide range of classes. I fired up a live streaming webcam at the lake front this afternoon and you can get to it from oldforge.net. If you don't see the link for the Live Stream refresh the page.
I gave you incorrect information in the report. I stated the low was 4 below at 8am. By 11:15pm the temp dropped to 7 below and still dropping. It's going to be another cold one in the morning.
Went out for a ride tonight and zipped off 65 miles in no time. Pretty much had the trails to ourselves. Had a nice dinner at Stillwater and visited with some old friends.
This Saturday there is going to be a snowmobile race at Stillwater. One of the classes will do a 100 mile long race. Here is a link for more info adirondackxc.com
I'll be posting the snow totals each day on the motel reservation calendar. Christys
Sorry the post is late. I fell asleep in the chair again. Conditions are great and with other areas getting snow it makes the riding that much better here. Why, because many people come to the area to ride because they don't have snow at home. Now they do and they're riding at home.
I had someone ask if I could post how much snow we got each day and the totals. Which I think would be a good addition. Tomorrows post will include a total since 1-25-2026.
Snow on deck this morning - Dusting
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST MONDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 5 and 10
inches.

Make sure you check out the pic at Stillwater at the end of the video. The snow looks like waves from the wind blowing it around.
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 7 PM
EST MONDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12
and 18 inches with up to 24 inches in the eastern Catskills,
Berkshires and southern Greens.
* WHERE...All of eastern New York and western New England.
I saw some pictures of what this storm has done down south. We all wish for it to snow to go riding. Let's just hope we don't regret what we wish for with this one. This isn't lake effect snow, it's storm snow and large amounts of it can do a lot of damage.
Sorry about the background noise in the video. The scanner was on and Inlet had a call. You would almost think it was Saturday by the number of sleds in the area today. Hope you have plans to get some riding in. Monday looks like it's going to be a fun day to be on the trails with 12 to 18 of storm snow predicted.
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 7 PM
EST MONDAY...
* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow expected. Total
snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
Two events coming to the area for your enjoyment! Don't miss out on some of the best riding conditions I have seen in years. I'm sure some of you will question my comment about the cold. But after living here over 35 years and going outside at mid 20's and damp as all get out, compared to 5 below. I'll take the 5 below.
LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST FRIDAY

accumulation greater than 7 inches possible.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
At 8pm we have snow in the area and if it snows like this till Thursday 1pm we'll get the 5 to 8 that's in the forecast. Isn't it nice, that all I have to report about is conditions just keep getting better.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8
inches with up to 8 to 10 inches along the south facing slopes of
the southwest Adirondacks.

Sorry the video is late. After we got back from a ride to Pine Tree for dinner. I went out and put the Rondaxe camera back up after charging it. Came back and sat in the office chair to do a video and that was it, lights out.
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. 7 to 10 inches expected
with localized accumulations within the most persistent lake
effect band reaching 10 to 12 inches, mainly north of Old Forge.
* WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.
What can I say. If you aren't here you're missing out.
WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM MONDAY TO 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY...
* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Localized snow
accumulations within lake effect bands of 6 to 12 inches for areas
north of Old Forge.

I'm still predicting the upcoming week is going to be a good one. It may even be the pick week of the season. Snow every day and cold temps to go with it. What more could you ask for?
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Snow. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches with
locally 6 to 7 inches along the southern foothills of the
Adirondacks.
* WHERE...Portions of eastern New York.
Channel 2 in Utica posted:
Lake effect snow is gearing up for a comeback Tuesday into Wednesday in Upstate New York
Arctic air crossing the Great Lakes will flip the lake effect switch back on, with the most persistent snow setting up across Tug Hill and parts of Western New York. Snowfall rates could be heavy at times, and travel may be difficult in the usual hotspots. Snowfall accumulation looks in the order of a few feet in the heaviest zones (TBD).
The wind direction should keep the brunt of heavy accumulation out of the Mohawk Valley.
You'll see in today's video that sometimes it doesn't take much to make a big difference in conditions. And what better time to get it than just before a holiday weekend. Video is a little long today, sorry. But I wanted to share with everyone that won't be in the area this weekend to enjoy it.
The advisory was for 3 to 5 and just after midnight they changed it to 2 to 4. The warmth and R had a different effect on the snow, depending on what you watch. Watch the railing at Stillwater and compare it to the parking lot. The snow/ice pack in the parking lot helps slow down the melting.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST
THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST THURSDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5
inches.
* WHERE...Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
Three weather sources are calling for the same amount 3 to 5. Let's hope for once we get the 5. Which will put us in great shape for the week and weekend.
It may not be perfect, but we're back to rideable conditions. A few more inches of new snow would help bring conditions back around even more. Forecast looks like we'll be seeing that in the next few days. Cross your fingers we get it.
We got enough snow today to cover the ice and you'll be able to trail ride without burning up the slides or overheating. As for the roads they may need a little more help. There's more snow on the way this week.
This was posted a few days ago by someone. But it wasn't a hot link to it. So here it is again.
One day of the warmup is past us and now we just have to hope Saturday is just as easy on the snowpack as Friday was. What was wrong with the route I took? If you listened to the route I took on Thursday at the end, I said I went from trail 8 to 3 to Pipeline to Wheeler Pond to Round Pond. Trail 3 does not connect to Pipeline at any point.
I went out for short ride this evening, 22 miles and said what trails I went on in the video. Except I messed up when telling you what route I took. Who can tell me what is wrong.
We'll pull off Thursday but after that things are going to go downhill. I don't think it's going to be a washout that we lose everything. But the trails are going to be soft till the temp drops back down on Sunday. I rather see a missed weekend now than in the middle of the season.
What time you may ask. Time to see what's on the Honey Do List and pick up what's needed to make it happen this weekend. Yes the forecast could change. But I don't see it happening at this point. Let's just hope we see limited R and this becomes a repeat of the last two R events and helps build more base.
Had snow in the air the last two days and saw about an inch plus each day. Believe it or not snow like this is a good thing. Everyone drives around all day and packs it down. The Highway Dept may put down some sand. But don't rush out to plow off a dusting after everyone drives on it. In the end the roads get a good snowpack on them.
I'm still predicting this week is going to be one of the best weeks of the season. If you can get away, do it. It still looks like this upcoming weekend is going to be a stay at home weekend. Cross your fingers it changes. At worst it looks like just a bump and not a wash out.
I forgot to include how much snow was on the deck. Not that it really matters as there was only a dusting out there this morning. That will be different Sunday morning with the lake effect we had in the area all day.
Some are already worrying about the long-range forecast and what will come of it. It won't be nice if next weekend is a wash. By what I'm seeing at this time it could be just another base building event and settings things up for even better conditions. The extended forecast past the 10 day is looking good.
Before I lived here, I would take off this upcoming week to come riding. You get great riding conditions with everyone going back to work after the holidays and you have the place to yourself. With the snow we have this year it's going to be a good week to be here.
