You'll be shocked............

OK so I went out to see first hand what it looks like and I think you'll be shocked.  Video will be up as soon as I get it together.

Just finished the movie and it is processing now at 6:50.  I have a meeting to go to, which  I am late for now. I will post the video when I return.

OK, here's my take on the conditions.  Is it great or a huge base...NO, but you sure as heck can ride.  How long will it hold up?  Your guess is good as the next guys.  With no real snow in the forecast, do you wait till we get some or do you ride on what we got, it's totally your call.

Today's Video, it's along one.......

    1. All depends on your outlook on life. Are you a half full or empty person.

    2. It's going to take a little time to put this together, because I have a good half hour of video go through.

  2. Back to the end of yesterdays video. I can see a sled getting hung up in a tree, but not maintaining the position that one is in. The sled is almost right in line with the skis. Why hasn't the back of the sled pivoted down towards the ground? Seems like it should have. Makes me wonder.

    2. So what lake erie is frozen. Thats normal. Its a small lake. Freezes every year and will have no effect on lake affect snows.

  6. Well. I'll put it to you like this!
Trails are halfway descent. The little moisture that we had on Sunday along with an inch of wet snow and then the polar vortex came in late sun night froze over like a block of ice. I would make the drive, when you get on your sled and go it will be worth it. Or you can sit at home and wonder how much fun I could have had. Hope this answers your question,

  9. This will be a perfect example why I pay no mind to the comments on this blog. Trail reports from people I don't know deeming the trails unrideable from hundreds of miles away. And from a bar that states trail 1 and 5 are bad, those trails are rarely good, that's what everyone uses to get to there destination. That poor guy Tim that was planning on going up will now miss out cause of lies.

  13. Something to think about? If you went snowmobiling on the weekend (fri-sun) And the gas stations, restaurants/bars, grocery stores, snowmobile dealers all charged more on the weekend most of us would be really upset. So why is it OK for MOTELS and. SLED RENTALS places to do so. I own my own sled and live near by so not a big deal. But for people looking to try and get away for a weekend. Seems so not right. WHY? Gas 2.25 mon-thur. Fri-sun. 4.75 Just an example. Not right is it

    1. Yes John. That's the special-(snowmobile gas). They got ya pal. Nothing we can do about it. When ever you say anything, they all defend each other by saying,( WE HAVE TO MAKE A LIVING). No, that's price gouging....

    2. Supply and demand my friend.

    3. Let's look at this another way John or as the saying goes, put the shoe on another foot. You say you live near by and some day you will be selling your house. Are you going to sell it for a cheap price or for as much as you can get for it?

      Delete
    4. Or how about this....try selling a sled in the spring and can't give it away, sell it when you just got a snow storm and you can get top dollar. It's just the way business works.

    5. Steve, your missing my point, If I stay at a motel tue-sun. And not change rooms. Why should the same room be more money on fri sat night when I just stayed there 3 prIor nights . It's just a money scam. Like I said bars don't charge more for beer on the weekend. Now on the other hand food and beverage do cost more at beaver river. However the delv truck dosent back up to their door, so that I understand

    6. I fill my truck & snowmobiles up in Jersey along with some gas cans problem solved. Go back up to $6 bucks dont care, raising gas prices for the weekend is price gouging @ its best.No different than if there is a disaster& prices go up IT IS PRICE GOUGING & ILLEGAL!!!!!!!

    7. HI John, OK let's look at it this way. A motel or sled rental shop are different from a bar. They only have so many rooms or sleds they can rent at one time and please don't come back with, build more rooms or buy more sleds. So the only way for them to increase income is to increase rates, IE supply and demand. Now a bar is not limited on how many beers it can sell in one night. So as fast as they can pour them, they can sell them until either they run out of beer or cups. Another thing you may want to do is google supply and demand. There are a few good things there explaining how it works.

  14. If you want to run, run it..It's smooth. Yes, everyone can use some fresh snow. I buy a new sled every three years,so who cares what happens to it!
I'm in it for the fun, not to sit around and complain and look at it in the garage!

  16. Thanks for the video Steve and the input guys. Yeah, not for me out there. Not yet anyway....

We'll be up for a long Super Bowl weekend no matter what. Party and have fun! I'm sure no rain or warm up will hit between now and then so at the least I can break in my new 1+1 seat on my E-TEC and take the girl for a cruise on the inner trails. Not ideal but....

  17. Thank you for posting Steve, truly appreciate your time! We ride Snowmobiles they are designed to take a beating. I live in PA. If I rode my sled here I'd be riding on black top. So a little snow and a fun pace to hang OF here we come.

  18. Steve, Thank You for the proof positive evidence on rideable trail conditions! I can only hope this reminds the "couch riders" that the facts are on the trail and not on their computer screen...

  21. Lake Ontario is froze over, we all know what this means no lake effect. It will take over a foot of STORM snow to bring things some where up to speed. He'll who knows by then, all rooms will be weekend rates. I'm not the only one who better pray for snow!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ah... Lake Ontario is NOT froze over. Lake Erie is. Nice try though! Can't make this stuff up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. News Flash: Lake Ontario is not frozen over, it rarely does, it is 24% frozen as of 1/21/15.

The fact that Lake Ontario so rarely develops ice cover, as well as its nearly east-west orientation, gives the eastern shore of the lake one of the worst lake effect snow seasons on Earth.

The warm waters can heat air near the surface of the lake through conduction and allow the air to rise into the extremely cold atmosphere above, creating enough instability to create intense bands of lake effect snow. Ice on the surface of the water literally caps the fuel source for lake effect snow, preventing the air from warming up and rising and cutting off lake effect snow until the ice melts.

Since Lake Ontario rarely freezes over, areas east of Lake Ontario in upstate New York average over 100 inches of snow per year, with seasonal totals exceeding 200 inches during the worst seasons.
