Looks like the next wave.........

The first wave of snow has stopped and has left behind a half a foot of snow.  The radar looks like the next wave is about to hit us and who knows how much this one will bring us.  All the forecasts are calling for winter and snow the rest of the week.  So forget about the spring time conditions, winter has returned to the north country, at least for this week.  The one and only guest I have in, just came in from riding, he put on 70 miles in two and a half hours.

Today's Video for................

  5. Trails are not bad today, we went to Indian lake from old forge..Snow was thin around Inlet area and the groomers in Inlet where parked!! Old forge barn had an awful lot of drags sitting not being used and there where one maybe two groomers out. It is currently snowing again, trails need some grooming outside old forge

  6. Steve, different type of question...we are thinking about coming up this weekend but have never been up this late in the season. Do you know if any of the restaurants are open this late in the season around town and surrounding areas for riding destinations(such as Glenmore, Stillwater, etc.) or would the info center be able to help us with this info? I understand that Big Moose Inn and Seventh Lake House closed after last weekend. We truly appreciate all your snowmobile reports...thank you!!!

  8. I just called Stillwater, they will be open and my guess is Beaver River will be open. I had a guest tell me the other day that Big Moose Station plans on being open on weekends. Around Old Forge there will be some open and some closed. But you will be able to find somewhere to eat. Slickers, Walt's, Tony Harpers and the Steak House are ones that are almost always open and I would guess that Billy's and Frankies will be open to. Over towards Brantingham I would guess that Pine Tree will be open. Hope this helped.

    1. Stoney Lake trail to Brantingham was ridiculously sweet today. We were the 3rd and 4th sleds through and it was flat with 12-18" of fresh powder on top. No open water and nothing but brap, brap, brap....

At the Pine Tree Inn the road towards 10 miles crossing looked bare and sketchy (we had just came from Stoney Lake way) but just past the intersection it was very ridable and we went home through Kovach's trail to 10 mile crossing - all mint!

  10. Just rolled back into Eagle bay for a long long weekend after towing the sleds outta oldforge last week.. We got alot more then 6" of snow since the weekend. It looks like Mid Feb around here.. Its lake effects now so Let the groomers roll in the morning and thurs/Friday should be Mint

    1. And your point is? Do you know what the schedule is for them? If it hasn't changed from years ago it goes something like this:

      Sun 3 groomers
      Mon 2
      Tues 1
      Weds 1
      Thur 2
      Fri 3
      Sat 3

Which works out to each person working a 5 day work week. But I could be wrong as things do change over time.

    2. Steve, with all due respect there is no way there were 3 groomers out last friday saturday or sunday!
I rode all weekend. It did not happen.

    3. I think that all the groomers should be out so people who have paid get in that last ride today thru sunday. Some times bending the rules for the groomers schedule is good for the entire money aspect for the area as opposed to negative feedback from no grooming.

    4. The groomers are out in full force now because there's snow....how difficult is it to understand last weekend there was shit out there to groom?

  13. Ok boy and girls. Let's not get into a drag down fight over this. Here is something to think about. Walmart at Christmas time has every lane open or at least you hope they do. But on a Wednesday night, in March at 11:30 pm there is only one lane open. When there are thousands of sleds in town, yes the whole fleet is out grooming. But when there are only fifty or a hundred sleds running around, why would you send them all out. With just one groomer and light traffic, like it's been, you are getting better coverage than when thousands of sleds are in town and three groomers. Bottom line is.....We have over a foot of new snow on the ground. Let's just get out there and enjoy it. Because it won't be around long and that is for sure!

    Priceless.

  15. Bingo, Steve hit it on the head. If you are complaining about riding March 20th you are a moron and there is other places to ride. NO ONE is forcing you to ride here. Get lost!!!!

  16. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. To groom or not to groom. I can't make it up to ride. Thanks for the explanation steve, it does make sense. I enjoy the videos. Everybody likes to get on a freshly groomed trail.
