when i started riding in the 70s i do't remember anyone using salt, i was told then that they started using it for the lake placid games and never stopped. anyone else remember or not? jerry
Yeah come spend a weeks pay and ride the snowmobile capitol of the east and then you realize this place is nothing but sand anymore. I remember a time when everything was white and stayed white, thats the snowmobile town i treasure and to be honest im losing interest in this place anymore, and im not the only one.
Pay ten grand for a new sled these days, and one day in OF and the suspension is full of salt and sand, and in one season you got alot of rusty parts. fun. not.
jfar, I remember those days, sand only. Sometimes the roads got like rumpble strips with spots of hard packed snow and bare road. Until you got a warm up that is the way they stayed.
The road conditions in Old Forge are so frustrating!! I really belive the town plow guys hate snowmobiliers!!! The roads that are marked as snowmobile trails are plowed from edge to edge!! I live in Westchester county, and we dont even get plowed from curb to curb!! Its so agravating to be riding in the "snowmobile capital of the east" and watch the town plows go by pushing the banks up as far as they can leaving the road the width of a three lane highway!! Does any Old Forge business owners complain to town officals? Do they tell them their business relys on these snowmobilers during the winters?
wow, i guess i opened a can of worms. don't forget 28 is a state road and state rules apply.back when things were simpler i guess it was ok. today things must move fast to make things happen, and as steve said the salt gets draged around by the traffic.anyway i can't around here anymore all the trails are gone, so i take what i can get and enjoy it JERRY
As far as what was said about the town plow guys hating snowmobilers.... The highway superintenant goes out with the mother of the owner of Smith's Marine the Ski Doo dealer in Old Forge. So if he hates snowmobilers his girlfriends $$$$ depends on it. Roiute 28 is a state road. All the salt on 28 has nothing to do with the town. As far as plowing all the back streets shoulder to shoulder - I agree the town needs to stop this.
u people need to understand that not everyone in old forge rides and that the town does what it needs to do if u dont like it then dont go or stop cryin and enjoy what u can
