Well we went from a ghost town to down right crazy in one day. Amazing what a little snow will do around here. Looks like a great week of riding will be had in the north country this week, so don't miss out on it.
We sledded all weekend. Too many cowboys out there in the Plains. Passing on curves- zipping around the corners too fast and not on their side. Just be courteous of others and watch your speed and be safe. 4th lake was a mess so that in itself puts more riders on the trails.
Looks like trail 5 near Daikers claimed another on Thursday there's too many crosses in trees on that trail and there was a crash Saturday night on South Shore haven't heard the details, Not sure if Alcohol was a factor, Sorry for the loss
Trails were great, had a great weekend. Wanted to thank our fellow sledder who found our camera on trail 1 and hung it in the tree for us, forgot to zip that trunk bag again. Anytime we have ever left anything behind it has always been there on our return. Any trail incident has always ended in an instant rescue. For a town loaded with tourists I am forever amazed at the kindness and integrity of all. Proud to be a part of it all.
That is a very cool story abojut your camera. I'm sure It happens all to often to many of us. If its in the hgundreds maybe som sort of lost and found box or deposit spot like the tourist center and a list can be checked. I don't believe many would be dishonest in claiming... I hope whoever found it saw ur post .. Feels good to return stuff to someone in that circumstance... Its happened to me before...
I love it !!. I'll be there by Wednesday at noon and outta there Saturday by 7am...no crowds, no bumps...just me and the wife riding in the ghost town...can't wait !!...The trails all to ourselves...
is a fat single pipe with the bigger Y better then twins with a boondocker around there?? f7 efi? I hear twins are to difficult and finicky. any good numbers u can show for the setup?? Can U post or email me DD. I have clutch work on a 10.5 diamond drive..
"groom it as much"?? I can't count on one hand the amount of times I've been on that trail where it was in a pristine (groomed) state. Usually you are getting lost in the dips hoping you can get out...Lol But seriously, people need to smarten up if you're going to have cocktails... Don't get on a sled. Perhaps a random DWI checkpoint would slow things down
I apologize for the previous posts presumption of alcohol being related to this accident... I do strongly feel what I wrote about the drinking... But I have not seen any reports reflecting that alcohol was in any way attributed to this accident... In either case may he Rest in Peace,... Ride safe all!!
Team D&D doesn't drink, we put on the miles and the smiles. We are out looking to make friends and drive safe. Everyone please be nice and safe out there!
Yup! Very irresponsible to take yourself out that way. Hopefully no others go down with them. Speed is one thing but the alcohol or drugs combo is really f'd up. What shocks me is the friends/group they ride with must not have 1 person sober enough to step in and speak up. I'd imagine a lot of times someone does step in but certainly not enough. Now I need to go search what happened up there in the last 3-4 days as I haven't looked or heard much until this...
Damn, this is the one. Sad. Didn't make very far. And they even mentioned the bar....ugh I didn't know him. Anyone ride with him or was there that night? RIP http://www.themoose.net/edit-news-articles/17978-town-of-webb-fatal-snowmobile-accident
The conditions/visibility could have been a factor here as wasn't it snowing hard that night? It's the obvious assumption that alcohol (or worse) is involved whenever it's a late night crash in that area. I came upon a bad one years ago. Girl rolled down onto Rt. 28 and died at the scene. I guess I like most are curious to the full details but sadly many times these are just forgotten and you never hear anything again. Stay right, stay safe and have fun gang!!!
It's hard reading all this stuff we just got to be careful we all hope we can make it back to the room safe you tell me you're not relieved when you pull that thing in the trailer and it was a safe trip that's all we want
Stopped at Slickers today for lunch. Their chowder is the best on a cold day. Word is a large group from the NASCAR community will be in town this weekend and next week. Can't wait to see Tony and Zippy saddled up on big cats again.
Steve, looks much better than last week. How often are the groomers out, every day?
ReplyDeleteOut everyday they are paid highway dept. employees 2 or 3 shifts depending on how long each shift is

DeleteThey do a great job on the trails.
DeleteLooking forward to my trip next week up there so glad I didn't cancel it when the trails got ugly because trails were awesome yesterday
ReplyDeleteGood to to see hope to get up next week.

ReplyDeleteEnjoy it. Sounds like a great plan. Me the week after Tuesday-Fri or Sat.
DeleteYes, we do our practice runs during the week. Maybe Ticket Tim can join us and give us some pointers.

DeletePeople die on trail 5 because they go 100 down it maybe they should not groom it as much it will save lives.

DeleteMaybe setting up a trap line on trail 5 like Indian Jim has out on trail 1, will slow 'em down. He doesn't do much over 20 mph when checking traps.
ReplyDeleteWe have all seen over served patrons stagger out to their sleds and ride away.
ReplyDeleteNot nearly enough local enforcement for riding under the influence.
They should re-name that trail "The Widowmaker"

ReplyDeleteYes, Tony and the gang are coming up. But they know they need to stay off the ice because Team D&D is ready to take the trophies again this year!
