The last two days we haven't seen anything more than a dusting of snow. But the temps are back down and things are freezing in from the R on Friday. The other quiet is the amount of people in town. There have been a few sleds running around. But with Christmas just a half a week away I'm guessing most are home getting ready for Santa.
We lost half a foot of snow overnight Thursday to Friday morning from the R and the wind. Lake effect moved into the area Friday evening. How long it's going to stick around is hard to say. I'm hoping long enough to get back the snow we lost. Temps are going to drop and things should start to freeze back down, turning into a solid base for the season.
Traffic has been light, which is to be expended with Christmas a week away. Groomers where out in full force today getting everything ready for the possible R Friday morning. So, the wait and see begins. Cross your fingers that the great beginning to the season doesn't get washed away. So what did I mess up in this video?
I'm sure I'll upset some by what I said in today's video. But it's no different than building a house. It's only as good as it's foundation and that's what we're doing. Building a foundation or as it's called in snowmobiling "Base". We'll have riding till Thursday morning. But by noon Thursday temps will be above freezing and may even hit 40, with some R overnight into Friday. Looks like a good weekend to stay home and get ready for Santa.
By what I saw and heard Snodeo was well attended this year. Sorry I don't have a time lapse video of the event like other years. I was instructed to turn off the camera I had inside of the building to do them. Vintage show also had a good showing of sleds. Funny what a little snow will do.
The kickoff weekend of the season is here and so are the sleds. There was a constant flow of trailers coming into town today. With that being said, the trails are going to take a beating this weekend and the snow we got today is a welcomed bonus.
The winter storm warning is still in effect till 7am Thursday. It's sad to say but I'm getting to the point where I look at the lowest snow amount in the warning and figure on that as the total. And that's OK by me. Just think what conditions would be like if we got half a foot of wet snow every week. Just a heads up, I most likely won't be doing a post Thursday. Heading out of town for the day to go Christmas shopping.

Thanks for all the kind words and support on the webcams. There was more discussion about them at the August meeting and then a special meeting also. But in the end the town has decided they need to install their own cameras. I was asked to keep my cameras online till they have theirs up and running and I have. But it's been months now and I've needed some of my equipment for new locations that I'm doing. So that's the reason McCauley Mountain has been offline. But in the end, it really has worked out for the best. I've been able to bring some great new great locations for you to see.

It won't be long and the smell of 2 stroke will be in the air. We are a funny group of people. Thinking the smell of a sled is right up there with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and apple pie.
Five days and the trails open for the season. Ten day forecast it looking good and unless it really changes, we'll have riding on Snodeo this year again. This week is going to be a good test run for one of the new cams I'm using.
