Here's a short time lapse for the day. Trail crews have packed the snow we do have and it is turning in to base. Not enough to ride yet, but maybe soon. If the latest forecast really happens.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. * WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.
Today's Video.............
No 6” in sight. 3rd blown forecast in a row!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I don’t see winters changing much. It’s gonna be one of those things gotta go or be there when snow hits. Some people will be lucky enough to have that luxury others of us won’t. The industry is in trouble enough and with lack of snow just makes it worse. I feel bad for all the businesses that rely on snow to generate revenue. Hopefully the summer and fall months of 2024 are great for them. Yes there’s still winter time left and we could get blasted but next couple weeks don’t look good and then we will be into January. So glad I rode a lot through the 70s and 80s and even some great snow in the 2000s. I’m not sure but maybe there is something to the global warming theory. It definitely feels like it in New York!!!
ReplyDeleteYou mean all the scientists and educated people were right all along? Nooo, say it ain’t so
DeleteNot even close to being right, and only a fool would believe it.
DeleteChances of riding before new years are 0% We can only hope the week after. At least last year we had a decent early season. Are the lakes even going to freeze up this year, maybe not, this is terrible
ReplyDeleteDave
Dave your insight is amazing, do you have a direct contact this way we can check to ensure we know what the future holds. Or is this the only way to hear your advice maybe one of those 1-900 numbers like the psychic hotline
DeleteMan you said it all, good one
DeleteIt is a range for a reason. 3" to 6" means 70% chance of getting at least 3" and a 30% chance of getting 6". Snowmobilers and Skiers all have the same problem by focusing on the high end of every forecast only to be disappointed 70% of the time!
ReplyDeleteSnow is very rare these days what a shame
ReplyDeleteI miss our homes in ADK but its not the same as it was in the 2000s and up to 2017 these last 6 years have been garbage
ReplyDeleteSnow averages were 290 inches in the 70s. They are below 150” now
ReplyDeleteYep i remember those days, the town was full every weekend. All the Motels were filled up and the restaurants and bars packed. Everyone did well, it was a winter wonderland. There were sleds everywhere, would like to go back in time and relive that just for one weekend it was great.
DeleteSorry but the summer is great the winters are hit and miss not worth it for me to have a home there anymore
ReplyDeleteAbout the same for the rest of the month.See what happens in JAN.
ReplyDeleteSuper El Nino in effect. See you next spring Old Forge.
ReplyDeleteMight be a first,SAD, Old forge having a green Christmas?
ReplyDeleteThis year I may try water skiing on Christmas Day
DeleteThat would be a SAD thing, don't think i have ever seen one
DeleteKodak a name everyone knows, well they use too anyway , my point Adapt of Die . OF is a business as much as it is a town and without a vision of the future that business stagnates and fails. OF is Kodak and like Kodak it doesn’t see what’s coming.
DeleteAdapt or die . UTVs with tracks in the winter, all access during the summer, block out the mud season (s) we now have 2 and of course hunting reason. By allowing UTVs access is smart business. Or at the least do a trial run can’t be any worst than “FreeWeekend”
Adapt or Die .
Ride Safe Keep Right

Very well said and it is very true, have been saying that for the last couple of years but no one wants to hear it. Like i have said do something or board it up for the winter. And at the rate there moving it will be sooner than later.
DeleteIt's not being handled very well, the power to be better, wake up and look around. It's easy to spend money when it is not yours. Don't they think about the business people.
DeleteThe town needs to put the land to good use or sell it.
DeleteWell {518} no one seems to care, tells me a lot.
Deletewow
ReplyDeleteStick a fork in this its not like it used to be not even close
ReplyDeleteHey summer and boating is coming soon
ReplyDeleteWill be lucky to get 6weeks of riding in seasons done long range looks mild it’s over
ReplyDeleteFLOOD WATCH DEC. 17, 2023 WTF?
ReplyDeleteIts simply not fair when is it going to snow
ReplyDeleteDamn this is such a disappointment! I really thought we were going to have a banner season. Looking at the long range this is way worse than last, and I never thought that it could be. I say it every year if we get a season like last, I’m out of the sport. Very disappointing
ReplyDeleteDave
It’s over I’m selling everything house sleds I’m done with this sport was good times just don’t snow or see winter anymore
ReplyDeleteMaybe we do need a season that’s totally crap and local businesses start bitching at the elected officials, and when they say they don’t control the weather, true but they control the management of the trails. Instead of groomers buy a grader
ReplyDeleteNOT WORTH BUYING NEW SLEDS ANYMORE
ReplyDeleteNot worth buying any sleds anymore. Its been crap for 6 years
DeleteThat crew needs a good bitching out and then replaced.
ReplyDeleteYes side by sides in Old Forge would be cool
ReplyDeleteI sure would help all involved.
DeleteIs it true the Water Park,Camping Resort and Waters Edge have been sold?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is true.
DeleteHave any idea who bought them, and does it include OF storage
DeleteI heard it's a company out of Florida. As for the storage I can't say for sure. But I would guess they are buying that also. As I heard they are buying the Park, Motel and Campground.
DeleteWOW If you would keep your ears open, and i'm going to see what i can fined out on this end as to what company bought. Thanks You Steve
DeleteHey it was great I sold my home and sleds in 19 hope it improves but the betting man knows the best days are over
ReplyDeleteThe ? is for how long it is over for, there's only ONE that knows. But in the mean time we need to alter things and make it work to keep going.
DeleteWe can blame them !!!!! They are from Florida and this weather is warm….. coincidence? I think not …
ReplyDeleteThose good riding days are over doesn’t even snow anymore
ReplyDeleteGotta go north above Montreal for consistent riding anymore
ReplyDeleteYou said it did the st donat region for 11 years in a row but have not been up there in some time now but even that has changed a lot up there with trail closures and some places requiring only 4 shrikes
DeleteIm sad will we have normal winters again?
ReplyDeleteutv's Need to get the ball rolling before it's too late and all is lost.
ReplyDeleteJust checked the 10 day forecast. Next Friday the 29th is supposed to be really cold.
ReplyDeleteDave
31/25 is cold?
DeleteNot even close this year is a stinker
DeletePrediction is cold snap first couple weeks January then warmer weather towards end of month into February. Weather channel was showing extended forecast this am.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Team DD ??
ReplyDeleteI think they went to Florida
DeleteGOOD
Deletelets be honest this aint coming back to the way it used to be. I guess its take what u can get Old Forge is passee
ReplyDeleteAnd how do you know its not coming back?
DeleteDave said so !!!
DeleteShould have known that, if he said it you can take it to the bank.
DeleteRode in the late70s and 80s put 1000 miles aweek on the sled.Still have my Indy 600 but am to old to handle it.They were the good old days!
ReplyDeleteYes Sir They were good times, blessed to have be able to enjoy them. Times sure have changed.
DeleteSo onetime at band camp .
DeleteTwas the week before Christmas when all thru the state, not a snowflake was falling, even upstate. TOW bar attendance was certainly way down, as all that came in just sat with a frown. At Tonys the crowd was slim and in despair, knowing they would take another xmas week in the rear. El Nino is back to squander everyone's dream, of riding a shiny new snow machine. So with new iron in the barn and a trailer to boot, guess we'll all set back and let the old lady play the skin XXXXX!
ReplyDeleteYou are disrespectful with that last sentence!!
DeleteHasnt been good in 6 years and its nothing so far
ReplyDeleteNot before Jan then how long face it this is the way its gonna be moving forward sorry
ReplyDeleteHoly moly, ive never read so much whining in my life. Does it suck? yes....but, wow. Im happy I get to wake up everyday, and grateful for Steve putting out these videos year after year, day after day, no matter what. Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
ReplyDelete"YEP"
DeleteWAHH WAHH ITS NEVER GONNA SNOW
DeleteMerry Christmas but the season is Jan to 1st week in March enjoy
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas 🎅🎄 Let it Snowwwww.
ReplyDeleteWow 4th year in a row no riding until January
