Are we going to see enough, of the white stuff, to get in that last ride of the year? They increased the high side number by a 1/4 of a foot for our area. And don't forget, this is going to be the good heavy wet stuff, that adds up fast and packs down great. So get a dancing and cross your fingers. It also looks like more mid week. Who knows maybe there will be riding for SnoFest this year yet.

Just Out..........
OLD FORGE--The Town of Webb/Inlet Snowmobile Trails were temporarily closed at 8AM Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Town officials in Webb and Inlet made the decision primarily for public safety. Natural resources and equipment preservation are also prime considerations. Recent unseasonable weather has resulted in rapid degradation of trail conditions. Many areas are now unsafe for travel due to lack of coverage, icy conditions, and minor flooding.
According to town officials and the trail maintenance supervisors, conditions are being monitored daily, and the trails will be reopened if possible. Substantial snowfall and cold temperatures will be required to provide safe and manageable conditions. Any minor snowfall now will only thinly cover potential hazards.
Notification signs are being posted at main entry points to the trail system, and access gates will be closed where possible.
DEC officials closed snowmobile trails in the Moose River Plains Wednesday at noon, citing “bare ground and icy conditions.”

Ice Skating anyone?
You'll see in the video, that most of the front yard is frozen over with solid ice. To the point that you could ice skate on it. The sad part is, the trails are getting to this point also. With the warmth during the day and the cold at night. But this may be a good thing, as solid ice takes that much longer to melt down. So when and if we get that last shot of winter. There will be some base left out there, for the last ride of the season.

Still some...........
Snowmobiling may be on hold for now, but there are still activities happening in town this weekend. There was a ice fishing contest on the Fulton Chain, skiing at McCauley Mountain and I saw some kayaks around town also. We may not want to see the snow melting away, but others are having fun from it.

The average is two........
I looked back over the last five years of March reservation charts and the average comes out to two weekends of riding. So cross your fingers we see it this year again and we'll all be smiling enjoying the last ride of the season.

Cold has returned..........
At one point today, the radar was showing R from Mexico to Maine. But as the day went on it dried up and we didn't see all that much of the wet stuff. The snow pack has gone down, but the ice is hanging in there. Here's your snow fix for today. I should have enough footage to keep you going till the beginning of next week.

Not sure.......
Today we had some light R, but nothing near what was predicted for us. I'm not sure how we are going to fair tomorrow, as there is still more of the storm to come our way. Thanks to Joe and Timm for dropping me the news story about the ice harvest on Lake Erie. It's always fun seeing how things where done years ago.

The ugly got here mid afternoon and it looks like a few days of it before we start returning to winter. So I guess it's time to sit and do paper work. I'll keep everyone up to date on whats going on, as you can only tell so much by looking at the cams. The second video is airplanes that landed on Stillwater taken by Snowman1.

Not a normal................
It's Pres. Weekend and it's not as busy as some years. But I don't think there's anyone upset that they came to north country for a weekend of riding. Forecast is still calling for some snow tonight and that will help us finish off the holiday weekend with some good riding.

Had some..............
This morning and again tonight we saw some snow in the air. Nothing big, but enough to turn things white again after the R we had last night. Everything is freezing back back, at least for now. So we'll get a few days of riding in before the return of our next warm up.

Starting to not like............
How many weeks is it now that we had bad weather on a Thursday? I'm really starting to not like Thursdays at all. Nothing worse than sitting on the edge of your seat, hoping everything comes together last minute. So cross your fingers that things turn around and we get in another weekend of riding.

Cross your fingers..............
Forecast still has light liquid in it for Thursday and then back to winter for the weekend. So cross your fingers the liquid is light and we get another weekend of riding in. Conditions are about the same, roads are toast and trails overall are good. But like always, I'm sure you can find an ugly spot here and there.

Full day...........
Everyone cleared out by 10am and didn't see any of them back till dark. One group headed to Brantingham and Dave said it took him sometime, but he did find a trail they didn't have groomed in the flats. The thousand dollar question is, how are we going to fair this weeks Thursday weather.

May not be perfect............
Not that you can really put much stock in the long range forecast. But if it comes true, the conditions we have this week are going to look like gold by the end of next week. So ride it while we got it. Skies are clear tonight, so we should drop below zero by morning. Everyone had a good day of riding and think conditions should be better tomorrow.

Ride safe and stay alert !
It's going to be a very busy weekend here in the north country. Keep in mind that the trails have a solid ice base and the snow on top doesn't always hold when going into the corners or braking hard.

Didn't see much..........
The lake effect that started up last night didn't amount to more than a dusting by morning. It's getting to that time of the year, when the sun really isn't our friend. One of the pick ups had ice hanging from the fender this afternoon, that was snow on the hood this morning. So just one little bare spot in the road can be huge by the end of a sunny day. At 10pm the lake effect is firing up tonight again. So it'll be interesting to see what we have in the morning.

Steady all day...........
The snow started this morning and came at a steady rate all day. It was more like little dots than flakes and it didn't take it long to pile up. The few people I did see and talked to, said the riding was great today. Groomers will have a day or so to work it in and get things ready for the weekend.

May not be one.............
If tomorrow's forecast comes turn and with everything that goes on around here. I may run out of hours in the day again and not have time to put a video together. Because if we get the snow they are talking about, I can see I'll be spending many hours in the plow truck.

Two day video..............
Between plowing snow, snow blowing and being Sunday, which means just about everyone checked out and a whole new group came in. I ran out of hours and got done with the plowing around 10:30 last night. So today we have a two day video, hope you enjoy it.

Old Forge native in 2018 Olympics.................
If you plan on watching any of the Olympics this year. Keep an eye out for Maddie Phaneuf in the Biathlon. She grew up here and still calls Old Forge home. https://www.teamusa.org/us-biathlon/athletes/Maddie-Phaneuf
Lowell Bailey claims it was here in Old Forge that he "first put on a pair of skies." He moved to Lake Placid with his family when he was 10. He also will be in the Biathlon at the 2108 Olympics. https://www.teamusa.org/us-biathlon/athletes/lowell-bailey
One last person to note is Erin Hamlin. She's not from Old Forge, but Remsen which is just down the road about 30 miles. https://www.teamusa.org/usa-luge/athletes/Erin-Hamlin
Over the years Old Forge has sent three others to the Olympic stage.....John "Louie" Ehrensbeck, Hank Kashiwa and Gary Vaughn.

Got a better picture.................
Many stayed home this weekend because it looked like the riding wasn't going to be all that great. But the last minute snow we got Thursday night really made a difference. It gave a better picture, to the people that came to the area for the free weekend, what the area has to offer.

Never can tell........
Some said we would and others didn't have any snow in the forecast for us tonight. But low and behold we've been seeing snow on and off ever since sunset. We have 2 plus of nice heavy wet snow on the ground at 10pm. Cross your fingers it does this all night and we'll be all set for the weekend.
