If you didn't see it, we've had some snow on and off today and it has been sticking to the cars and grass. But as I'm sure you've also seen, it looks like another warm up this weekend. So think of this weather pattern like this. The warm temps are going to keep the great lakes that much warmer and when the cold air does settle in, the lake effect machine will be just that much stronger. Hey it sounds good, so just go with it.
Today's Video........
It all sounds great! As long as the cold settles in soon, rather then later. I would like to ride christmas week, but I recall last year it was a washout until the day after new years. I remember riding that day though you had to ride early. By 12:00 there was nothing left. The season turned out to be one of the best right after. Let's hope for a repeat!
ReplyDeleteSay what you want but the polar vortex is locked up in Canada and will not be released until the pattern changes sometime later in January. This may be the shortest and worst season in many years !!!!...Find something to do to occupy yourself for the next 8 weeks because you won't be riding in NY...sucks !!!!!
ReplyDeleteLake effects will be epic this winter.. All set up for big events
ReplyDeleteHope so. At least your not missing out on any good riding sno nut. I'm glad I have 15 year old sleds that still run good. Only go once a year now. Not worth spending 13 grand on a new one. Lol!
DeleteOh I agree with you !!!...the lakes are so warm...Just gotta wait for the cold and the winds to blow our way..HUGE snow in a short window.
ReplyDeleteKey Word. "COLD". Unfortunately it's not happening anytime soon
DeleteNeed a good cold spell to get the ground frozen and then a good base for the snow to last
ReplyDeleteNo change in this pattern expected for at least a month...I know many really don't believe in long term forecasts but no denying El Nino is here and here for quite some time...can only hope for huge lake effects in later Jan and early Feb..March may turn out to be awesome and cold...
ReplyDeleteI think we will get good storms, as for cold like last year, not happening!! Ride when we have it, I sense a roller coaster winter coming. Repeat of 2012.... I hope I'm wrong, I depend on weekly rentals to help pay the mortgage. Hopefully the local buisness is okay after that bang up summer old forge had
DeleteFor now this blows !!!!...no fun in sight....
ReplyDeleteYou can allways stand in line at the mall or wallmart xmas shopping with the mrs. Oh yeah. Now that blows!!!
DeleteHope the power failure Transformer Fire didn't affect You too much..
ReplyDeleteI lucked out, here at the motel and the only thing I think I'll have to deal with is resetting all the cameras tomorrow. But not everyone in town lucked out. Many places got hit with high voltage and will be looking at repairs and damage. Thanks for the well wishes and hope that the people that did get hit, don't have to much damage.
Deleteould U expand Upon the incident itself Steve? Where and what happened I am a telephone lineman/and FF In pa And we have had in cidents that have incurred injury . Sounds Like You may have an Incident that could be helpful for our safety going forward . weird things happen sometimes. Thanks. If U wanna email instead thatd be nice. Just letme know otherwise I and My other friends Riders will check here... Sory for not proofreading Don't care about the spelling police!
DeleteBy what I had heard, it appears that an insulator failed and the high line dropped onto the secondary. But nothing is for sure, because no one saw it happen. That in turn, sent high voltage into buildings and did a lot of damage to things. But no one got hurt and that's the most important thing. Many of us have surge protection on our equipment. Because it's not uncommon to have spikes in the voltage from time to time.
DeleteGood morning, I have a camp on birch street in thendara. I'm just learning about the high voltage after reading your post. What kind of damage are you talking about? And was thendara hit with it as well? Please let me know as I will take a ride up there. I'm from longisland so wouldn't want to take 5 hr trip for nothing. Thank you for posting this
ReplyDeleteHi Dave,
DeleteSome places in Thendara got hit and it all depeneded on which line you are on. As you know nothing in life is for sure. But my guess would be you didn't get hit. Because a close friend and my daughter both live on Birch and they didn't have any problems that I heard of.
Steve
U my friend should invest in a nest system with drop cams.. Cheapest. ever and very useful day and Night Dave. Only thing is U need an interenet connection... Does Old forge Have FIOS Or fibver to the premises type networks from bell alotta Mayors in small areas are requesting it thru Verizon as I heard they are refusing to serve Outer or small areas of newyork but then again even Buffalo. CWA workers are working without a contract its abeen a big issue here in thecity...
DeleteThe town just catch a break this season...first the bad snow start now this !!!...Hope everybody is OK !!!
ReplyDeleteI just heard about the power, hope all is well. My group of guys are coming up next week to support the local bars! Hey if we can't ride lets at least have a cocktail! It is the Holidays!!!
ReplyDelete"LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING"...(for February 7th)...LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks like weather will start turning around next week. Hopefully a new pattern will start. Meanwhile enjoy the rest of the week, we won't see weather like this until April.
ReplyDeletePlease people. Its the same every year. There is never any riding until sometime in January. So we had a fluke last year and you could ride for a week in December then the normal weather kicked in and melted it. Its been roller coaster winters for many years. This is nothing new.
