It's trying.......

If you didn't see it, we've had some snow on and off today and it has been sticking to the cars and grass.  But as I'm sure you've also seen, it looks like another warm up this weekend.  So think of this weather pattern like this.  The warm temps are going to keep the great lakes that much warmer and when the cold air does settle in, the lake effect machine will be just that much stronger.  Hey it sounds good, so just go with it.

Today's Video........

  1. It all sounds great! As long as the cold settles in soon, rather then later. I would like to ride christmas week, but I recall last year it was a washout until the day after new years. I remember riding that day though you had to ride early. By 12:00 there was nothing left. The season turned out to be one of the best right after. Let's hope for a repeat!

  2. Say what you want but the polar vortex is locked up in Canada and will not be released until the pattern changes sometime later in January. This may be the shortest and worst season in many years !!!!...Find something to do to occupy yourself for the next 8 weeks because you won't be riding in NY...sucks !!!!!

    1. Hope so. At least your not missing out on any good riding sno nut. I'm glad I have 15 year old sleds that still run good. Only go once a year now. Not worth spending 13 grand on a new one. Lol!

  5. Need a good cold spell to get the ground frozen and then a good base for the snow to last

  6. No change in this pattern expected for at least a month...I know many really don't believe in long term forecasts but no denying El Nino is here and here for quite some time...can only hope for huge lake effects in later Jan and early Feb..March may turn out to be awesome and cold...

    1. I think we will get good storms, as for cold like last year, not happening!! Ride when we have it, I sense a roller coaster winter coming. Repeat of 2012.... I hope I'm wrong, I depend on weekly rentals to help pay the mortgage. Hopefully the local buisness is okay after that bang up summer old forge had

    1. I lucked out, here at the motel and the only thing I think I'll have to deal with is resetting all the cameras tomorrow. But not everyone in town lucked out. Many places got hit with high voltage and will be looking at repairs and damage. Thanks for the well wishes and hope that the people that did get hit, don't have to much damage.

    3. By what I had heard, it appears that an insulator failed and the high line dropped onto the secondary. But nothing is for sure, because no one saw it happen. That in turn, sent high voltage into buildings and did a lot of damage to things. But no one got hurt and that's the most important thing. Many of us have surge protection on our equipment. Because it's not uncommon to have spikes in the voltage from time to time.

  9. Good morning, I have a camp on birch street in thendara. I'm just learning about the high voltage after reading your post. What kind of damage are you talking about? And was thendara hit with it as well? Please let me know as I will take a ride up there. I'm from longisland so wouldn't want to take 5 hr trip for nothing. Thank you for posting this

    1. Hi Dave,

Some places in Thendara got hit and it all depeneded on which line you are on. As you know nothing in life is for sure. But my guess would be you didn't get hit. Because a close friend and my daughter both live on Birch and they didn't have any problems that I heard of.

  14. Please people. Its the same every year. There is never any riding until sometime in January. So we had a fluke last year and you could ride for a week in December then the normal weather kicked in and melted it. Its been roller coaster winters for many years. This is nothing new.
