When Mr. and Mrs. Christy first started in 1957 they rented rooms in a big house that was in the front yard where the pool is now. The first motel units Mr. Christy built was what are now rooms 3 to 7. Rooms 1 and 2 started out as a Hemmer Cottage that he bought and moved to the location they are now. Next they built the office/ house in the middle of the motel. Then they added units 8 to 10 and the last units they built where 11 to 14 in the late 70's. They started and ran the motel for 32 years. I bought it in 1989 and I think it was 1991 I lifted the roof and added the eff. unit above rooms 1 and 2. In 1996 I added rooms 15 to 18 and since then have remolded all of the rooms Christy's built. My daughter Chelsea will be running the motel this summer and I plan on stepping aside very soon.
Thank you for all you do for us, Old Forge and all the snowmobiling familys that come to this wonderful place. Your dedication to the sport and town is outstanding. I know Chelsea is going to do great. God bless you in your next endeavors.

DeleteI don't know what's well and good about it,i myself am very upset about it and hate to see this happen.
DeleteA long lived Big Moose landmark gone. I hope they can rebuild and make it even better.

DeleteSteve when did the Old Forge Lake Cruises close down and are the boats still in town?
ReplyDeleteThey stopped running the year Covid hit. My understanding is they planned on running the year of Covid and then retire. Retirement came a year early. It was up for sale and the boats are still sitting there. I'm not sure what is going on with it at this point. I wish someone would buy it and getting the boat tours going again. It was a great attraction for everyone to enjoy.
DeleteSo it's been closed for 4 to 5 years. Who would i contact to get more information?
DeleteWhat info are you looking for?
DeleteA contact about the purchase of the business or just the boats.
