It's official.......

Well this is the first time I can recall this happening.  The trails are officially closed for the 2015 - 2016 snowmobile season and after my trip to Stillwater yesterday I can understand why.  I've included the  press release from the info center below.  I keep forgetting to include that there will be helicopter rides at Snofest this year again.

Today's Video........

Weather forces early closure of Snowmobile Trails
OLD FORGE--The Town of Webb Snowmobile Trail System was officially closed for the season Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Normally, the season runs from early December until the end of March. Lack of snow this season delayed riding until mid-January, and conditions have deteriorated severely recently.
“The preparation by trail maintenance crews got us up and running immediately when we first received snow,” said Mike Farmer, Webb tourism director. “Skillful grooming with minimum coverage produced a solid base which lasted a long time. Many of the interior trails have remnants of that still, but conditions are now unsafe.”
Some diehard snowmobilers were riding as recently as last weekend, Farmer said. “Two different groups reported riding 40-100 miles, but it had to be very tough going,” he added. “For weeks, riders have been struggling to get some riding in this season. Although trails were rideable, there’s been no snow for lubrication or cooling.”

  1. YIPPEE!!! Only 39 more weeks to go! I can't wait because I know it's going to be a great season after suffering through this one. Thanks again, Steve... "See ya!"

  2. Before the reasonably challenged spew their useless opinions I thought I would weigh in. This season while unfortunate was one that has a potential to affect the well being of a community that we all love. If the town has any excess in the trail fund I would recommend that a portion go back to those who suffered poor business so they can stand on their feet when the snow flies again.

    2. hey thats business. Some make it, alot dont. If you dont want to take a chance then go work a 9-5 for someone. And the spring /summer is the big season in OF. Not the short winter season.
