And it begins.............

Now it's the wait and see game.  The see how long it takes to get some fresh snow, so we can get back out riding again. The forecast isn't predicting any great amounts of snow in the near future, just and inch here and there.  But that doesn't mean it can't happen.  Look at last Wednesday, we got a half a foot to a foot and it wasn't even predicted.  I know there's one person confident that there's going to be more riding this year.  Because they went to the info center today and upgraded their weekly permit to a seasonal.

Today's Video..........

    1. It's nice to have an optimistic post on this forum, most posts are doom, gloom and talk about how it was in the 1970's. I don't happen to agree with you, but I certainly hope you are correct.

  3. It will take minimal 10 days to 2 weeks. Temps look good. 1 inch here and there ads up quick.

  5. You do realize that many folks/clubs south of the thruway haven't rode at all yet this year? Sleds remain parked where they have been since last season! This is incredibly sad, yet the news media just laughs it off..

  6. My understanding is you can upgrade to a season $80.00 permit from the $45.00 7 day permit for an additional $35.00.

  7. Nobody cares about us as sledders...if it's in your blood then only you can understand the yearning we feel to ride as well as the disappointment when mother nature pulls this on us...we are a special breed !!!...cruising down a groomed trail at 15 degrees...nothing like it !!

  9. Question for Steve. What's with the sled in the Stillwater cam that has been in the cam shot for a very long time. Stolen? Someone forgot to load in on a trailer? Blown motor? Seems odd to me,

    2. I didnt look at the cams. No need too. The storm we got today in a few hours dropped more snow than any storm or lake effect did up in old forge this year. You would need about 3 feet of that crappy lake effect to equal the heavy foot we got this morning. Just yesterday the ground was bare. Should ride down here. Better conditions.

  11. I spent the first 19 years of my 50 year life growing up in Carthage NY and our camp on Big Moose. We'd start with flurries in October, and when it got cold it stayed that way through mid March. We didnt see the warmups and rain that exist there now. A solid three months of snowmobiling.

Its a damn shame its no longer the same. Its been 30 years since I've snowmobiled and I miss it every year. (Which is why I check out this blog and the webcams every week .. hoping you all have lots of snow and good weather.)

On a side note, each of the last few years I was going to rent a snowmobile in the area but the cost is just too much for me. Wanted to take my little southern wife for a nice 5 degree ride ...
