Great weekend of riding...............

I said it yesterday and I'm going to say it again today.  If you aren't here, you're missing out on some good conditions.  The snow that blessed the entire area this week, has really made a lot of people happy.  Not much else to report , besides forecast looks good for the week.  So if you had some thoughts of getting away for a mid week ride, it looks like it will be worth it.

Today's Video for......................

    3. I saved a picture from South Shore Rd this morning and posted it above. So everyone could see what you are talking about. Your right, it's nothing like it was years ago when only the rich ran studs and carbides. Today I'd say 50% or more of the sleds are studded, with rip saw and ice rippers common names for tracks. It doesn't shock me that the shoulders on both sides of the road don't have any snow pack left on them, after all the snowmobile traffic this weekend. But isn't it funny, how the center of the road is still covered.

    4. ".years ago.."Only the Rich..? You are joking ..right?

BTW..w/o robust Carbides and proper/minimum studing..on a 100+HP sled (Which is SO common now)..you literally take your life at risk...on the conditions that are the trails -lakes etc...now a days..and today.

    5. No I'm not joking. I'm talking back when a 100+HP sled was only seen after many hours of work to get it there. When most sleds weren't studded like they are today. BTW, just because a sled has 100+HP doesn't mean you have to use it. But if you choose to, you will need to stud the track and that will in turn do damage to the snow and ice pack on the trails and roads.

    6. years ago they left snow on the roads just enough so you didn't need studs and I ran 4 inch carbides on 100 hp sleds.now with them plowing all day long an sanding most of the time all they do is make ICE! bad for car @sleds nothing nothing worse than slippery slop! steve not bashing anybody. I know you try to keep the peace. after riding up here for 39 years I've seen it all. realy I don't like what see! only my opinion .thanks steve for this web site to post on the way everybody see it.

  3. Not a bad idea to keep an old sled or just rent once a year just to still do it. Well i have a 5000 dollar sled and 1500 dollar street bike.

  4. the highway dept. doesnt leave any snow pack on the roads to rip up just plain asphalt and I doubt studs would rip it up anyway didnt seem to years ago how I long for the days of running up & down big moose road sorry glenmoore cant get there roads suck

    1. Really they don't? Then what the heck is in the middle of the road on the above picture. You don't think studs tear things up. How about you come to the area sometime in the summer and look at the roads where the sleds cross all the time.

This is the last post on this. As I can see that it's going to be right back to the same old thing.

  7. maybe on roads most traveled the town should cut in a trail on the sides there is usually plenty of material to work with

    1. That does make the most sense. There is plenty of room on the shoulders to pack the snow and make a trail using maybe part of the side of the road and part of the butting ground to make a trail maybe 1 sled wide. This is done in Canada on most every road that is incorporated into the trail system. If, and this is a big if, people would try to follow the posted road speed limit, I don't see a safety issue.
