Got three and more today.....................

I'd say yesterday's snow total came in at 3 inches and there is more coming today.  Yesterday's snow wasn't off of the lake and was very dense.  So even though it was only 3 inches, it did make a world of difference in the conditions.  It would of been great to see this on Thursday.  It would of been enough to keep the sleds cool and the slide rails lubed this weekend.  If we get just the least amount they are calling for over the next few days and the cold to follow.  We should be in pretty good shape for this up coming week.  Cross your fingers and get a dancing!

Be advised if the abbreviations with four letter words in them, the name calling and so forth doesn't stop, I will lock the site.  I don't want to, because some of the stuff is really funny.  But to many young eyes look at this site and it also reflects on Christy's and the area.

Congratulations  posters, I turned on the Comment Moderation and all posts will be reviewed before showing up on the blog.

  1. It may look like a world of difference out a window, but not on the trails. Sure they look good where there was ice base with the new snow and lite traffic. No where near enough to cover the bare and rocky parts. Went through carbides in 50 miles yesterday. Forecasts for today are backing away from the 5-8 that was in them yesterday. Don't beleive it till it's on the ground anyway. The trails need a lot more snow to hold up to any normal weekend traffic, not the dustings that may or may not come. Only good thing is the coming cold with little snow on the lakes should firm them up nice. Forget the studs, get the ice picks.

    1. I wouldn't care as long as the videos were still on. All comments on here are worthless anyway. Report from the town and Steve's videos are what I go by and I know before I get there what to expect. And yes I would continue to stay at Christys too.

    2. that's right motel hell. even jimmy dean wouldn't ride in this junk. his 1950 ford tractor couldn't pull a sled out of the slop up here.!!!!!!

  5. Steve, It's time to take the Blog off the site. Keep by far the best, the Videos! You have put up plenty of warnings over the past few years. Let the nut-cases find somewhere else to tick people off and spout their dribble. Let them see how long it lasts on another sire

  10. I have a friend who's up there as I write this. They got around 4" of fluff today and still snowing..said there are plenty out riding but there was also plenty lined up for carbides at bmy...im sure if you stick to the lakes as much as possible and off the main arteries there's riding to be had and will cut down on wearing out carbides...guess it all depends how bad you want to ride.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was up at big moose today... sorry George but they were not lined up for carbides, and this snow is not all fluff. There was some good pellet style snow falling and it is helping.

    3. hey rich bioch I live here all year round and been riding up here for 39 years so don't tell me how things are I see them everyday and it sucks. years ago you didn't need no web cams. there was allways snow and they left some on the road so people could get around.

  12. Just trying to let the people who may drive from several hours away that there is riding to be had but depending on where you spent your time ie roads/ trail 1 5 you have potential on wearing out carbides...and of course any snow helps...but if you want to ride everywhere without any wear...prob will need another 6-8" which may come tonight if forecast pans out!

  16. Hi all 'bilers, it's your friendly TOW snow plow operator again...spent most of today gouging .5" of that nasty white stuff off of the area roads to ensure safe driving of motor vehicles. ie: BMW's, Range Rovers, and the like.

  19. I would just like to say that all the people that have nothing good to say about steve and old forge , stay the hell at home. This town does not have to leave any of us ride here. Its a priviledge.Ive been riding up here since the 70,s,and yes we did have more snow then, but we also rode 40 hp sleds. Now we have 150 hp sleds, the trails just don't hold up as well with low snowfalls that weve been getting.Bottom line is , if you don't like it, stay home or go somewhere else. And as far as steve goes, you cant get a better person to give you real snow reports.

  24. Good morning everyone. I know we are all having fun here but let's keep it clean and respect our host and his blog. For everything that Steve does here with the web cams, videos, web site, etc.... it gives us a window into the current situation in Old Forge and Inlet so we can make decisions on riding and coming up, some come from 5 or 6 hours away. I make the trek from CT myself to my place up here so I do appreciate his help. Lets respect Steve and this blog, thanks again Steve for all of your help. I hope everyone who needs places to stay when the visit the area will give him the business of your stay. He does a lot for all of us, please respect that fact. I hope everyone has a great rest of the season, ride safe!

  25. Remember years ago, all they had was a phone # to call and it allways said "good conditions. It was never accurate and you had to gamble on conditions. I remember reading steve's detailed reports long before the videos and blog. I use to rely on those reports back then because I came up 4-5 times a year with different people. It's unfortunate that people use the modern technology that we have today for negative purposes. Thank you steve for making all those trips up here worth it.

You are 100% Correct I think its been 12 Years now Steve has had the Webcam at the Hotel. Before that we would call a Bar or hotel and ask how it is and 99% of the time the lady would say its snowing now and people are out riding... Steve puts in alot of work the entire town and Business's benefit from..

STEVE HOW LONG HAS THE CAM BEEN AT THE MOTEL AND BRIDGE??? 12 SEASONS??

    2. The motel cam went online 14 years ago, maybe the year before that and the info center was the following year.

  30. The way it looks, you didn't delete enough posts. There are still some intellectually challenged idiots posting. Personally, I would block anyone that doesn't have an account. I remember when nobody named anonymous posted on this blog. Now that's all that does. Cowards. Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say to keep up the good work, There still are mature people that read this and use it as a barometer to plan our trips. 36 years for me. 6000 to 7000 miles a year in OF and Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  31. it would take 4 new sleds to put 0n 6000 miles up here in the last ten years!

  32. steve I seen sled ED at fastrac today. he burnt his ski's and spindles right off his 71 skidoo silver bullet last night and he road on the belly pan said it didn't steer to good but he made it back.also he said i'm only going to ride behind a manure spreader's here on in.great lube stinks alittle but no damage!
