Only a few days left..............

Till the preseason trail permit sale is over for this year. As you'll see in today's video, the weather has been very much like winter here in the north country this week.  With lake effect snow, temps in the teens and wind chills below zero.  When we first started to get the lake effect it was only in the Old Forge area,  Stillwater, Otter lake and over on the hill didn't get any.  But as our last cold front moved into the area the snow was more wide spread and we all got some.

  4. From the Utica OD:
New York has established new standards for measuring snowmobile noise and identifying sleds that can be ticketed for being too loud.
The measure outlaws operating a snowmobile without a working muffler that keeps noise below 78 decibels at full throttle measured from 50 feet away.

It also bans snowmobiles putting out 88 decibels at 4,000 rpm as measured from about 12 feet behind a stationary sled with a sound meter microphone. That will use a test developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers.

The bill sponsors noted that the stationary test has been used in Michigan, Wisconsin and Colorado, and takes about 10 minutes to set up and one minute to administer.

About time, hope Old Forge quites things down this year.

  10. I got a loud pipe ticket last year in MRP but the sled cop did not have a decibal meter. It was my word against his. I never paid the ticket and I got all my registrations this year with no problem. They will have a hard time enforcing this rule. If you know where the Feds sit you can run the loud pipe and just slow down before you get there. They always sit at the end of town and always in stillwater intersections. This is nothing but another money grab by an emotionally bankrupt culture..the loud can stays !!! Braaaaaaaaaap !!!!!

But more more importantly this storm was a great set up for base...the liquid precip plus these cold temps will freeze the ground rock solid!....plus these temps will cool down the lakes in a hurry with no slushy snow on top like last season...be up in a few weeks!
