Old Forge, New York Snowmobile Trail Report

I'm guessing that conditions aren't all that bad.  Because everyone left this morning and very few of them have returned yet at 4pm.  The guests that have returned come back about this time of the day, even when conditions are perfect.  It's my understanding the groomers are out in full force and I am sure this new snow is making their life alot easier.  The camera at Nelson's Cottages is back online and I saw a few sleds getting off the lake this afternoon..  There was a problem with the DSL and I had to reset some of the settings to get it back online.  http://www.nelsonscottages.com/webcam/

  1. Other than morning sidewalk grooming , the trails had snow but needed serious grooming . They were back breakers unless you were one of the idiots trying to break the sound barrier and only touched down every hundred feet . Weekends are brutal. Didn't see the big groomer go out untill 4 pm.

    1. But didn't you know that the groomers are are out all day doing the best they can. Also, if you say anything negative that you will be told to go back to jersey, even if your dumping all your money up here?

    2. Lol. Yep. People get pissed when you talk negative. Even when its the truth. I actually talked to one of the groomers while i was at the store. Even he said old forge trails are terrible. I thought those bumps and rear blown shocks was just my imagination. If you want to wreck your sled, RIDE IN OLD FORGE.

  2. Was in OF fri&sat, rode all day and evenings both days....saw many groomers. Trails were excellent for the most part. Kudos to the town's trail crew for an always great job of turning a snowstorm into great riding for us. Everyone we met in the the area was friendly, upbeat and positive. We had a great time and can't wait to return.

    1. Yeah right. You werent in OF buddy. There are no such thing as excellent trains there. Not even close. You need to ride the roads for smooth riding.

Is it possible the Old Forge Liars Center pays someone to post on here? This post doesnt seem based in truth.

    3. Hello to the above posts,

The question is....where you even in town this weekend. If so and you didn't think the riding was good, that is fine. By all means please post that we didn't find the conditions to be up to what you had hoped they would be. But there is NO need to get on here and pick on other peoples posts.

    6. You must be kidding me in no way was their an ounce of truth in the comment at 4:17. If you feel it necessary to talk about the man that puts in countless hours to keep people informed you must be crazy. This is not facebook people the only personal opinion that should be givin is is trail conditions period.

  4. You guys need to grow up and act your age and not your ring size. Trail crew know what to do and when to do it and cant do alot with no snow to work with. So please try to act like adults

To 10:25. Are you saying 10 inches is not enough snow to work with ? I think you went to school on the little bus. Try to think before you speak!

  8. I was up in Old Forge Thursday night through Sunday. Saturday after all the snow, trail 1 where it splits off to the left and trail 2 to the right, was terrible. Trail 2 was terrible as well, especially where it is plowed for the logging. Very rough and and moguls. Bare in the corners which is expected with all the traffic. All the other trails were decent with the bare corners due to the high traffic as well. Even trail 5 was decent for what it is with all the heavy traffic and all. Reason I bring this up is not to bash but Steve maybe you can mention this to the town groomers as an area to concentrate on more. One thing I have noticed a lot in the last two years is how much time the groomers spend on going up and down the trail along North Street. Almost as if to make the trail(s) look good when you first get on trail 1. That area is normally somewhat flat and can be left alone some to go and concentrate on trail 1 and 2. Just a thought.
