Lake Effect is a funny thing!

The local news last night said the band of lake effect was only about 10 miles wide.  By what I saw on the radar today, the main band wasn't coming inland more than about 30 miles.  Outside of the main band there was snow, but it has been light and we got about 2 inches today from it.  I had someone post asking about the lakes.  I will tell you when to stay off of them, that is for sure.  But I won't ever be telling you to go on them.  Because there can always be just that one spot that isn't safe, sorry.

Here's Todays Video for........

  1. I heard someone say they put the trees up on stillwater reservoir. Do they go from stillwater over to beaver river??, and if so, can you see them from the restaurant in stillwater, or do you have to go out on the reservoir a ways before you see them?? I've been across the reservoir a few times in years past, but I'm trying to recall if I ever saw the trees. Also, I'm generally a little leary of lake riding, but if they had recommended paths I'd be happy to follow them! Any help would be great. Thanks!

    1. With all due respect....1:28.....you're right; we aren't in a bar room. Nonetheless, if there are actually young ones who are reading this then it is likely that he or she has been in a bar room while snowmobiling. We have made innocent references on here without using foul language. It is fair to say that the youngsters have heard far worse while riding sleds around with ma and pop. We respect Steve, and we won't push his buttons, but as for you 1:28....back off.

  16. I saw a truck on Big Moose plowing the drag strips. If Big moose lake has enough ice for trucks.... There's definitely enough ice to at least ride 4th lake. I would say the rest of the lakes will be good to go after this week of cold. The sub zero temps make good hard ice very fast.

  17. I quess its time to simply view Steves videos
and bypass the comment section. To read an
informative post many non relevant ones must be
bypassed. As a family of snowmobilers we subjected
young ones to the bars as they were a place to warm up.
Fortunately the kids realized that alcohol has interesting
effect and probably are more responsible drinkers from their
first hand experiences. Maybe Steve needs to lock down the
comment section for the remainder of the season. It would be
    easier for him
    Thanks Steve

  18. I have known Steve since the ’90’s and have stayed at his place many of times. He gives truthful reports and set up this site for just that reason. Giving snowmobile trail conditions. Some come on here and think this is like other forums and can cause havoc here. Even if you don’t stay at his place he is cordial to you when you may phone him either for a room or trail conditions. It’s nice of him to take his time and money to set up the cams around Old Forge so be respectful and watch what you post here. Steve also volunteers his time to the town. If your young learn from some of us old timers that this is not a “ME WORLD”. RESPECT one another.
Steve Thanks for giving us this site and for your time.

  24. Steve,
Sorry but you should be ashamed to allow some of the things that are being written here. This is a black eye on old forge snowmobilers

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the biggest black eye up there is what they do to the roads!now they are paying for it more & more every year & they are too dumb to realize it or they just don't care!

    2. why should steve be ashamed?? He does the best Job. Its people that complain about conditions..and so on and so on

  25. Wow really??. So glad to be coming up tomorrow so I don't have to read this nonsense for a few days!!

  26. I really cannot believe the disrespect on here for Steve and other snowmobilers/posters! What happened to common courtesy? Steve volunteers his time and resources to provide reliable information for snowmobilers. Thank you Steve for all you do! There are many more of us out here that appreciate you...we just don't usually post comments.

    1. Volunteers? Are you a simpleton? Its how he fills the hotel.

    2. Who cares why others assume he volunteers...does that give people the right to behave this way? I have never posted on here before...the insults only prove my point. I appreciate his reports and when posters provide helpful information...the rest of the rude comments are unnecessary, which is why I spoke up.

  31. What a sham to stay they are just as they were decades ago.. they were better before better maintained for sled riders. For those who think global warming is the problem is not true. The truth behind global warming is not "WARMING". Its spectacular storms. Thats the actual effect instead of AFFECT.So to spell it out for those who dont know Global warming doesnt mean WARMER seasons it means more aggressive or unusual climate activity. Not necessaril warmer climates.. THUs Why is it well below zero now for multiple days..

    1. You are welcome.I wish people understood that more. I do beleive that the road conditions are a multiple town HUMAN factor. not climate. as its stated. in multiple forums besides this. Town management is gettin sued more and more by those with a lack of common sense so they beleive it is their obligation to protect themselves from litigation of lawsuits.. Its an unfortunate byproduct of society. Byproduct meaning scum trying to make a buck

Trails are a 5..You .will need fresh carbides.. Moose and Stillwater.. Good with light snow Cover

    Squeaky snow. Ffn cold - 4. With a adult wind chill. - @ - 20+

    Need additional coverage.. IMO
