Don't give..........

up hope yet.  I know the long range forecast isn't looking all that good for this upcoming weekend.  But Friday is a long way off and things can change.  So cross your fingers and dance like all heck that winter sticks around.  I didn't hear of anyone going for a swim this weekend and I would like to thank everyone for using their head and staying off of the lakes.  I know they may look good, but they aren't safe to ride on at this point in time.

Today's Video for.......

    1. They can't predict the weather for the next few days and you want it for 2 weeks from now.
Please spare us. Yes we are in "WINTER" so anything can happen.

    2. Yes, please spare us. This "I'm coming up in xxx weeks-days...., is getting old.

Simply check out Weather Channel or Weather Underground. These are the places to get updated weather info for Old Forge area. Even the pros only forecast out ten days.

OR go buy a 2013 Almanac!

    3. Any forecast beyond 24 - 48 hours for Old Forge is crap, why waste time asking.

  4. Heard a rumor that the railroad is going to start hauling ballast up to and past Carter Station. This should shut down riding the tracks.

    1. My guess is that it is just that...a rumor. If I'm not mistaken. I saw it somewhere that the NYSSA has the rights to use the tracks in the winter season. Also so far, by what I have seen, all of the stone has been hauled in by truck, not train.

  5. I saw the service car moved up and sitting on the bridge over 28 monday. just saying not tying to start any rumors.

    1. Again this is my guess on this. The company that was working on the tracks this fall. Is in town to pick up one of the peices of equipment that was left here. I know this because, he was going to stay here, but I didn't have a smoking room for him.

  6. Does anyone know if there is any sow cover on South Shore Rd?
With the lakes not frozen that is the only way we have to the trails from our camp

    1. Right now I would say there is enough to get in and out. But after this warm up that they are calling for I would think the streets are going to take a beating. Sorry.

    2. south shore was mint but the sun and mild temps have destroyed it...

    3. mabey a ton of salt also ???????????

    4. The salt that gets tracked all over town off of route 28 is sure to help things melt down faster when the sun comes out and the temp gets up near the freezing point. I was thinking about breaking out the hose and soaking down the driveway. Because I can't get the snow pack to firm up solid with all the salt that is in it.

  7. Hope the trails survive this warm up coming up next Thursday night. Hoping the lakes will be ridable by then. But can still get around with out them was just hoping to open up the new1100 turbo.

  8. There is plenty of snow on the trails to survive a warmup but riders need to learn better ways to preserve the trails. This past weekend I saw many riders whipping through the corners spinning ther track and snow off the trail. Many people were running up the middle instead of packing and widening the trail. The trails were soft on saturday and sunday and I saw way too many people whipping around like it was spring riding. See you in two weeks rain, snow, sleet , of monsoon.
