Old Forge Snow

I just looked back at my records and things aren't going much different this year than last.  Yes we may of had a little more snow by now last year.  But it really didn't matter much, because it melted off during warm ups.  It's nice to have the snow coming early and building base.  However this part of the season isn't the most important and it really doesn't matter how much snow we have.  As most people are doing the holiday thing and aren't up riding any way.  Yes a few may be here, but not many.  The snow will come and when it does the trail crew will be out doing what they do the best.  Making great riding conditions out of very little.

Today's video.......

    4. YEP There were alot of good spots along 28 in the day, and alot of good people. The bald MT. Rest was one only open in the summer. That was back in the 70'S. And the year RT.28 was one lane in a spot, no place to put the snow. Blowers came out of Rome to clear the road.{GAFB when it was open}. Thats when it snowed

I went out west In March Picked up a RUPP NYTRO 440 Liquid and Remember riding the sled 500 Miles in March that winter. Do you know what 500 Miles is like on the Trails in 1976...

Trails are Nicer today But sleds cost to much and we get less and less days to ride them....

    THINK SNOW!

  24. Not sure if this is true or not, but rumor in raquette lake is uncas road will be closed to all snowmobiles this year, due to home owners complaining about noise and excessive speed. This would ruin the ride to long lake if its true, keep your eyes open signs should be posted soon I hear

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Haven't heard of that one yet but u don't have to take uncas rd to raquette or long lake as long as the lakes are frozen. I never take uncas to raquette much better ride on the lakes

      Delete
    2. closeing uncas would really hurt business in that area due to the fact a lot of famlies that ride do not like taking the lakes with the kids hope that that is just rumor enjoy that ride numerous times through out the year like to ride out to ww durant and say hi to jim lets see what happens

      Delete
    3. I just spoke with inlet officials, it is true uncas road will be closed to snowmobile traffic from rt28 eagle bay back to where the snow plow turns around. you*ll have to cross 7th lake then between the campground make a left on bug lake trail that intersects uncas at the turn around whats next!

Folks This is not true and No one spoke with Inlet officials.
Uncas Road is open to snowmobile traffic from Rt 28 to Raquette lake
With snow provided by mother nature. and is legal to ride at the Posted speed Limit for this and many seasons to come.

It was being discussed that possibly, the REG would be increased from 35.00 to 50.00 if you register a two stroke snowmobile, newer four stroke machines would remian the same. This is similiar to the Yellowstone rules, hope this dosent happen all my sleds are 2 stroke

As a Dealer were at a All Time High Struggle to just be Open for Customers. Sales are down near 80% for sled let alone service and parts is dry. I could rattle off 15 Dealerships around the area including ourselves if we dont have snow on the ground within 2 weeks will only distroy the snowmobile economy in upstate ny..

Guys Please support your dealers ASAP. A gallon of oil. a Jacket for christmas something or anything ASAP...

If we fold up it will hurt the rider and the industry

How ever it dosent matter how much oil, jackets, carbides you buy from them (OLDFORGE AREA) If you break down or need something urgent, the story is always the same 2-3 weeks out SORRY. So if you need oil, carbides, belts etc bring it with you and forget about the local ATTITUDE, if its more than that consider it bad luck head home and try again!!! How ever I will mention that BOB at Schuelers will do all possible to have you back on the trail, He may not be a factory dealership with attitude, HEs local trying to make a living and tryin to keep the sport alive. And to the big time dealerships if the new machines were not 15,000 / and offered something for our youth 340/440 which is the next snowmobiling generation, maybe your sales would not be down 80% Mother nature is not only to blame

Its not the sled sales as it is the parts and service that keep the $$ flowing.. Dons and all the local spots need the support as much as your bars and motels...

    2. Steve, I think there's a big rat out there looking for some cheese!!! If everybody up there is so worried about no snow, why doesn't the town help the businesses by selling permits half price. Next, keep Casey off the roads this winter cause he's going to wipe it outlike he does every year, if we do get any snow.

      Delete
    3. If the town sold permits for half price the town would make more $$$ not the locals business. Bottomline if it dont snow nobody will go..

Once the snow flies the nature of posts will change... but I have to say I am disappointed in the nature of posts that I am reading to date. Old Forge is not just a playground for people with money and big mouths. There is a community of people who like the business but won’t give up their pride to be spoken to like a servant. I have owned a home in Old Forge for ten years. I go year round and we always have a good time, rain, snow, sleet, sun or ice storm. The good news is I’m not home working. You don’t like it then please stay home or go somewhere else. I work very hard not to have to see outspoken tourists who don’t deserve to eat sleep or have a cocktail in our community. Merry Christmas and please ask Santa for some snow. NICELY i might add. -Tony
