Old Forge, NY Trail Report 3-11-12

Talk about a roller coaster ride for weather. To look out front right now you would never believe that people where riding yesterday, but they where. This weekend was a perfect example of how our weather can change at the drop of a hat. Those that took the chance, sure got a bonus weekend in and topped it of with SnoFest 2012. I hate to say it, but the stage is set, the Fat Lady is singing and she must be singing loud because it's going fast. I'll be posting a few more videos in the next week of clips I saved from over the season.

Here's Today's Video for..........

  1. We made it up late Friday afternoon, and put on around 60 miles between a quick ride Friday night, and riding from Inlet to the Snofest on Saturday for the day. Conditions overall were good we thought.Again Steve I want to thank you for everything you do to inform, and update all of us each day during the winter. My machines are going into hibernation. I plan to come up this summer on my bike. Summer in Old Forge is awesome too !! -Mark.

  2. Steve - thanks for "coaching" us all through the winter. I know it was difficult trying to keep up with the forcasts, but you did an awesome job and were spot on. Thank you too for riding out all the idoit postings you had to deal with and not punishing all of the rest of us by the possibility of shutting the site down. You handle a voulenteer project with pride and dignity! Thank you for all you do!!!!

  4. Thanks for all of the great info...like others have stated you don't have to put up with all of the idiots who always have something negative to say. Hopefully they will stay home so the rest of us can enjoy this slice of heaven....Thanks again..

  5. Thanks again Steve for a great job this season. I was able to ride about half of what I normally ride but I really enjoyed riding this year when we could. Hopefully next year will be a great season! I will be up to my place this summer on vaca with my family and look forward to it. For now, its on to work and coaching my daughter's travel softball team. Have a great spring everyone!

THANK YOU! As usual we enjoyed all the reports and videos. Only made it up once; but enjoyed the trip - only put 80 miles on the sleds. But, that's better than none. I will keep up with your site through the summer to see if there is anything we would like. Never been to OF in the summer. Thanks again, Steve. Jenny Keiper

    1. Only at the VET, or hair salon, or try the old barbershop. Steve, how do you do in the summer? Never been there in the summer. Rent or bring up the boat. How about ATV's, bikes, hiking? How about those black flies? Thanks for the postings. Miss all the good times up there in the 80's. Been a long time, but never forgotten. Old acquaintance not be forgot either. The Rudd family, Dick Bird, Dick Bock, etc. Hope we can meet sometime. O.F.is on my bucket list for sure.

    3. Hi Richracer,

I'd say summer is the strongest season for most businesses in the Old Forge area. Unless you are a sled dealer or have something to do with snowmobiling and most of them keep busy during the summer with service work and summer time toys. One of the great things about the summer season is we have so many things to see and to do. If your plans don't work out, say do to the weather, there is always other things to do. The streams around our area are treated for black flies and you don't see muck of them at all. By mid to the end of June the black flies have died off in the entire area. So if your looking for something to do this summer give Old Forge a try, you'll be surprised what we have to see and do. Heck if anything keep an eye on us at www.oldforge.net

      Have a great summer,
      Steve
