Old Forge, NY Trail Report

Went out riding last night and we went to Stillwater for dinner, put on 45 miles. Went up trail one to the new trail, then Stillwater road. One was fair , new trail was good and Stillwater road wasn't anything to take about and if it was day time we would of went up the flow. On the way back we took 1 to 2 to 29 to 3 back to 1 and they where all fair to good. The best way to explain the conditions is spring like riding conditions. Roads that are paved are toast, trails for the most part are in fair to good shape, with a bare spot here and there, with a solid ice base. It all depends on what you are looking to do. If you plan on doing a destination ride, you will be limited on where you can go. If your happy going to Stillwater or Beaver River and riding the Old Forge system you'll be able to put on a hundred miles. If you're up here riding now and have info on going other directions please post it or drop me an email so I can. What else can I say, it all depends on how bad you want to ride. Looks like snow the next few days and best I can tell it'll be off the lakes.

Here's Today's Video for......

    2. hahaha. Agreed. Man, right after Steve makes a nice post about playing nice on the snow pile (imaginary at this point), we have some nut up on Rondaxe threatening to shoot one of us with a Shotgun....talk about irony. I'll take Pinky Ski Doo, and NH trash talkers over that any day.

    3. TOW has just refreshed its trail report: 4 inch ice base, conditions marginal, trail 5 poor to fatal, especially while passing crazy Dan's shack. Riders Beware! I don't mind dodging some rocks and pavement, but homie don't do 12 gauges.

  2. Accuweather shows a storm coming into Old Forge next Friday - "They are claiming 9 inches of snow" Cross your fingers - there is still hope for better than fair conditions.

    We all like to ride.

    Have a good day.

  4. State Police here: Lets knock this off or it will get ugly for you. we've already determined your address and we know who you are. You do have the right to bear arms but not make threats. First and last warning!! Thank you.

    1. Threats are not nearly as serious as impersonating a State Trooper. Not Officer. The State Police do not have Officers, they have Troopers last I checked. I also checked and there are no Hilderbrands with the State Police. My suggestion is to stop the nonsense.

  5. Dan, do us all a favor this weekend......go walk over by the inlet to Rondaxe, bring your shotgun with you.

  6. Maybe pink skidoo gal should give a little to crazy man Dan. Then he wont have so much hostility against fellow sledders having a good time worrying if were gonna get shot at riding trail 5. Maybe i will tip off the state police saying that bad ass Dan is runnung arouned with a 12 gauge blowing people up. You shouldnt make threats about killing people. Your a moron. Everyone knows where you live. That makes youn a bigger moron.

  11. Can we just keep this site for snowmobiling as Steve has set it up for.

Forget about Dan and Pink Skidoo Gal.

We don't need Steve spending HIS GOOD TIME watching over needless posting.

Let ALL thing for a good snow storm soon.

  14. i understand what this blog is for, but with the winter were having theres not much trail talk. Joking arouned is fun for all of us. This blog gives me a laugh every time i look at it, and im sure it does the same for you and everyone else. Crazy man Dan is an ass. You made your self look like the biggest idiot, and we all know who u r and where you live. Next time im up there i will ride up your property from the lake on purpose and lets see if you have the balls to even take out your 12 gauge let alone kill someone.

    1. Right on! This blog is meant for trail updates/etc. but with the weather we've been having...what are we supposed to keep talking about> Sand on roads, ice on trails, permits, casey, etc.? This is entertaining, and my job is stressful. I get a laugh when I check this, and we've kept is clean. As for shotgun Dan....what a joke that guy is. I'll bet he's sitting up in his shack polishing his gun, he won't read this blog till he gets home to his trailer park in east bumble ***** and uses his neighbor's computer.

  18. I hope Officer Hilderbrand's post is for real. That makes me feel better about coming up to ride next week. But do you think Dan sees these posts? Or did he post the threatening post himself?? Thanks for the info, Steve, from your ride last night. That makes our decision to come up Monday. Praying for snow from the lakes the next three days!!!!!!!!!!! Dancing TOO!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. AND you should see Fred doing a snow dance!!!! HEE HEE HA HA !!!

  20. Shotgun Dan who is not the man, oh how you've made us mad
Pinky Doo is on the run, she wants some fun, and not finding her has made us sad
Snow has been nil, our sleds have been still, and time is running out
The trails suck, the forecast blows, and after days of it, there is nothing left to talk about
This doesn't mean, we as a team, want to be threatened with your gun
So sit on your hill Shotgun Dan, sleds might fly by, all in good fun
But next time you post, remember one note:
F*$#$*(G with us is not a joke.

  23. Everyone driving in from wherever, look on the good side for this year. You can get here faster than summertime, being stuck behind some ancient RV from Jersey or ECO-man proving he can get 45mph in his Prius. And you don't have to worry about ditching the whole rig on Rt 12 or 28.
You're here! relax and just ride, ride, stop bitching.

You want to stay home and drive through the pot-holes on your way to Home Depot?

  24. Ok..ok look guys I was only fooling around. I thought it was pretty clear in my comment. Obviously it has got out of hand and I'm sorry for being an ass. Please accept my apology and enjoy your riding this weekend. :)

    1. Apology accepted. you shouldnt fool arouned about killing people that accidently ride on your property. If your that pissed you shouldnt own property that a main trail runds thru. Were out to have a good time with our family and freinds. Not to get shot at.

      Delete
    2. Understood and I am here to do the same. I had no intention of ever killing anyone let alone carry a shotgun around. Thanks for acceptting my apology.

By the way, I was just out on the trails. For what's worth they actual are not bad. Some bare spots here and there but I'd agree with the town, fair to good conditions. I'm going to head up to stillwater or beaver river today.

    3. Thanks Dan, I still wish we could call you shotgun dan, is has a nice ring to it.

  25. No major snow expected in the near future. It's going to be a drag racing kind of weekend. Feels like mid March out there. The Glenmore has been closed the past couple of days due to the lack of good conditions. We were going to open back up today but there really doesn't seem to be anyone around. The Glenmore will continue to be closed Monday through Thursday (with the exception of Presidents Week Feb. 17 - 26) so long as the conditions remain poor. If we happen to get some good snow and conditions improve we will once again be open 7 days a week. Pat and Melinda have left a phone number on the door mid-week for those that might show up and be looking for something to eat and drink. Don't hesitate to call because they are right next door and will be over in a moments notice to hook you all up. We have found this to be the better option than just sitting around all day with the lights on. At this point all of us in the Old Forge area are trying to cut our losses and are trying to financially survive this horrible winter so we can be here for you next year when things will hopefully be better.

Trails & Roads: The trails are actually not bad. Some are saying that they are better than usual. Trails have a 3 to 5 inch base and although there is not any fresh snow for lubrication, they are as flat as can be due to the lack of abuse. The roads are completely shot. There is really no need to be on them unless you are trying to get from one trail to another and you might be (if you are lucky) a minimal amount on the edge to even attept that.

The Lakes: Frozen with very little lubrication. Perfect for drag racing.
