Old Forge, NY Trail Report 2-18-12

For those that rolled the dice and made the choice to come up this weekend, hit the lottery! We had lake effect move in this afternoon and we have gotten 4 to 6 inches of new snow so far. I'm not sure how far south the band is going. It would be nice if we got snow south of us, so people would be able to make it over to the Brantingham area.

Here's Today's Video for........

    Need pictures.
    Enjoy the start of winter.
Now you have permission to slide hot out of corners. And spin your track ..kicking the snow off the trail.(gasp!).
    Ha.

  8. Steve we did not want to gamble this time like we did over Christmas/New Years so we went to Florida. Glad snow came in though...hope it sticks around so we can get up a couple more times....we are stuck at 490 miles for the year and that just aint enough...

  9. no offense, but u dont hav to be a loser or a clown to read the sno depth map and compare it to the web cams to see the same thing. theres only a few places in the northeast that hav well over afoot of sno and arent bragging to get u there, and they dont need u either. guess u need glasses to read the stick by the pool.

  10. I rode from Indian lake to stillwater via moose river plains, fourth lake, trail 5 and trail 1. The 4 inches they got this afternoon made a HUGE different on the inlet side of MRP. Trail 5 was the only tough part today. Heading back tomorrow!

  13. most of the people who post live in old forge and want your business, any clown who rode this year will be buying a new sled next year as I know you all ruined them riding on dirt and back top, i've been up there this year once the trailers are poor at best.

    1. Rode Old Forge trails Monday through Thursday last week. Also, Stillwater and Raquette Lake areas. Don't need to buy a new snowmobile. Don't need to replace the skags. Yes, there were some bad spots. AND, several of the inner trails were the best we've seen them. In general, we rode early in the day before the mid-day warm-up. We are from PA and generally make the 6-hour (one way) trip twice a year.

    2. I live in nj. we bought 2 oldforge permits. in oct. to save 15 bucks. did this for 10 years. i put on 0 miles. never came up. im an old school guy. both our sleds are studded and dual cabided. my sleds havs 3k on them. both have had track replaced.i only ride forge. love the old mill and and stillwater. ill be be back next year. but its tough to to burn up 600 bucks in studs and carbides every year. so i lost over a 100 bucks never rode. ant ideas how to get that back. may a cheaper 2012 permit .

  16. Well all I have to say is you are WRONG! Got their thursday night, rode out to Indian Lake to the Bear Trap for Lunch, Indian lake area does need snow, but out of the 35 miles from inlet to the Bear Trap that was the only part that needed more snow. MRP was amazing. Then Saturday, went from OF to Stillwater via 1 (Have seen it worse) had lunch at Stillwater, took the Bratingham System back via Independence Wild Forest trails and all I can say is it was awesome. Anyone will tell you there is some bad, but not as much as you would think for the little snow the area has received. The groomers have done an amazing job with the snow they have to work with. Good job to the groomers. Had a great time, even for how crowded it was, we did 200+ miles, do not need a new sled, our suspension was caked with snow. Had great food and drinks all weekend. If you have never ate at the Knotty Pine, please give it a try!!! See I will leave my name, because I do not hide behind anonymous.OF riding is better than you would think, if you base it on trail 5, well then you are not to bright, it always has snirt even when the snow is abundant. Just thought I would give you the truth about the trails. Plus, rode out to Raquette after stillwater and that was awesome too! 4th lake was good, they had cars on Raquette and people were riding the Resevoir.

  18. Steve...We put on almost 300 miles Saturday and Sunday. Some of the best riding of the year. Glad we trusted your blog...it was better than anticipated and the lake effect machine really made a difference Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. Rode mostly from 630am to 11am before the hangovers wore off and the yahoo's were back on the trails. Thanks for the honest reporting!
