Old Forge, Ny Snowmobile Trail Report

We dropped down to four below this morning at 6:30am. As I'm typing the sun is out, with a passing cloud that is dropping light snow and it's a beautiful winter day. I don't think anyone was sorry they came up this weekend. Traffic was light by what I was seeing on the cams around town and up at Stillwater. Conditions aren't great, but your able to ride.

Today's Video......

  1. this winter for OF is pretty much done. We have 3 good weeks left and that is it. I do not see anything happening any time soon. Sad to see a town that depends on the weather like OF. I hope you guys make it up for the spring and summer. God bless.....

  3. I like how all you people are so doom and gloom. Typical arrogant snowmobilers. "Old Forge will not survive without us snowmobilers". Have you ever been to Ols Forge in the summer???? You can not get up main street! Snowmobiler income is just icing on the cake. Some of the towns outside Old Forge now that is a different story. Most business in Old Forge would prefer to drain the pipes and turn the heat off for the winter but instead stay open to do us the snowmobilers a favor and provide their services for us. Right Steve?

    2. If there was a Dollar store in OF, you'd still try finding something on sale.

    3. Its changed. There is a huge tax base that is never around. The new Art Ctr is the start of the gentrification from a sled town.

-Do you really think if sled are the end all, be all up there, would treat the roads like they do?

  5. I don't quite agree with above statement, Old forge does need the snowmobilers, they help pay the heating bills, just have 2 of these winters and see how many stores close and motels. You would e supprised. If the business don't want the snowmobilers money then close up for the winter, I have rode in Old Forge for 20 years, this is the first year I haven't bought a permit or been up. My wife and I use to come up whether it snowed or not. But due to this kind of business attitude, I can ride else where no problem.

  6. put a sock in it people. Just deal with the fact that this winter is a bust already...when there is good snow and cold temps nobody cares about this nonsense. I got so bummed out last week I just resolved to the fact that it's a bust this year. 5 hrs is my max drive for this sport so if it's not OF then I'm done...boat anchors for sale !!!

    1. going up next week snow or not. Getting away for a couple of days is all good. Even if it's inner trails, I'm ok with it. If not, I'll spend my money in the bars and restaurants.

  11. Joe, I wish you would have been going this past weekend, I would have called you in a heart beat. All of my riding "buddies" bagged because of all the negativity. Heading to Maine on friday, I hope its not the only riding I get in this winter. I like OF in the summer and winter. But mostly winter.

  14. i just got home from spending 5 days up in Old Forge and had an awesome time and the trails were better than we expected. That snow we got friday really helped. I think todays sun as we were leaving match have done some damage.
I also took a survey and talked to many owners what was better for them - summer or winter. We discussed that most snowmobilers come up and stay at hotels and eat all there meals and during the summer you may get business all week it's not families going out to eat every day they will go back to their cottage. They may go out and stop for a quick snack or drink. our group easily spent $1500-$2000 this weekend. Great time and people always in old forge.

  16. Anon Feb 6 8:34AM Ohhhh boy you "drop" $1500. Big effing deal. Typical Jersoid citiot Snowmobiler. Your $1500 spread out at 20 places in Old Forge just saved the world. Go back to New Jersey where you came from.

  17. Wow, I have never heard people being so rude to each other before, its ashame. Yes it is a hard winter to deal with, but seriously, the rudeness towards others is not necessary. I think this blog should be about snowmobiling, conditions and a thats it. People being rude, women looking for men and negativity about OF is just too much. Respect is the key word here, and hiding behind the word ananonymous is so sad, I have never snowmobiled anywhere else, except Tug, and maybe it is nice other places, but there is something special about the OF area, that keeps me coming back. So please try to remember if you cannot use your name when blogging, go by the old saying, "if you cant say anything nice, don't say anything at all".

  19. walked in bigmoose yamaha last week checking out new sleds. Never has the owner come out of his office to great me like i was his best freind. On a good year he would walk right past you. Thats why i would never buy a sled there. Baught 4 sleds in 5 years. GO F#### yourself. For the rest of the town im sorry for the poor winter. Hope you have a profitable summer.

  21. wow - i agree. a lot of angry people here and for the record. The comment on the $1500 not being a factor and go back to NJ - i'm from Upstate NY and comment up all yr round. and i'd make a few more comments to you but trying to keep the page positive.

  22. WOW people...sometimes the comments on here are a little entertaining but lately this is just terrible. If you do not like OF or snowmobiling then why are you on here to begin with? Have some respect for Steve and his awesome website that keeps us informed on TRAIL CONDITIONS. Everyone is cranky about the weather this winter but it's no excuse for the rudeness. SNOW, SNOW, SNOW...from Upstate NY
