Old Forge, Ny Snow Report

Trail conditions are just like beauty, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Had two different groups in yesterday morning. One group sent out a rider to check on the trail conditions. The verdict was a no go and they went home. The other group went out and one person in that group returned. He rides a 4 stroke and there wasn't enough loose snow to keep it cooled down. But the rest of that group stayed out and put on 65 miles. No that isn't big miles by no means, but they had fun and got to go to Big Moose Station for lunch.

A few inches will give us enough to get out there riding again. No it won't be great, but at least we'll be riding. Cross your fingers and hope for one of those weather man mistakes of "Sorry we didn't see that one coming" lake effect events.

It looks like I'm going for a walk. The trail cam went off line this morning and I'm guessing the system shut itself down. Cross your fingers for me that's all it is.

Here's Today's Video.......

  2. Steve,
Maybe the Snow gods want you to take that snow depth gauge down? Sacrifice it in the fire pit?
    Its worth a shot...

  3. Stick a fork in this season. Warm roads, warm ground, lakes never froze right, days getting longer, sun beats down on the roads...a good six inches of snow get slammed in a day. It would be packed with ATV's up there.

  5. Ok boys and girls..it's time for a talk. You cant argue with climatology and the fact is we're in deep doo doo..maybe a big storm will roll across the lakes and maybe it won't. the new phrase coined by steve is "ride it while we got it"...when you really think about it this is really the complete truth for this the 2012 winter season. Although the phrase makes total sense here lies the frustration: I believe most of us have lives, familes and businesses that don't allow us to "ride when it's here"...most of us that are old forge regulars have to plan and plot when we will come to up and ride. we are not use this crap and we are all pissed off that on tuesday its awesome and by thursday it's junk...if you really look at what's going on you will see that we are just in a bad snow pattern here in the northeast. I have to think that maybe we have 10 to 15 good riding days on the horizon if that. you will need to be ready to roll or you will be in the same boat as me this past week..sunday to wed was awesome and by thursday it was junk!!! so then I suggest that when the lake effect machine fires up you do what you have to to get up here...in another 12 dayes the sun angle begins to change and so whatever falls will have a better chance to melt even quicker...it's a drag for sure so be ready or pack it in now !!!

    1. Seriously, do not start your rant again. Not the place to ask for men to be your companion, do it on your own private time, not where everyone can read your desperation. Not all are over 21 here, some kids, including mine read this blog for snowmobile conditions. Thank you
