Old Forge, NY Snowmobile Trail Report

It sure has been an interesting winter so far. I'm amazed how it all turned out after the R we had on Tuesday. The base really didn't melt down that much and when the cold front went by it turned everything we had into a super hard snow pack and ice. We then got an inch or two of snow on top of it. I would say we are almost in better shape now than before the warm up and R. Go figure!

Here's Today's Video........

  6. NO snow for half the winter,OF businesses losing big dollar, and you can bet the ranch when it does snow there still gonna blast the roads with the sand.Never used to be like that, everything was clean and white

  7. They can't designate roads as trails and then plow and sand the CRAP out of them. Who can we speak to about this issue with the roads in OF, Big Moose / Eagle Bay and Inlet?

If they are trails, plow the middle and leave the sides. Guess some of the plow guys need to remember who brings a lot of the dollars into these areas....

  10. Call the Town of Webb highway superintentant Casey Crofut (315)369-3412. Bombard him with calls. It is getting old how they plow the roads bare.

  11. Totally agree about a 4 ft wide path on the side.

Not too much to ask for from the folks who want to spend lots of $$$ there.

  12. Plow guys are mad because when they are out plowing the snowmobiliers are picking up their girlfriends. Kidding - actually heard there was some truth to that in the Tug Hill area years ago - except it was his wife left him for a snowmobiler.

  13. Big Moose Road, Rondaxe Road and Uncas Road all need more width on the side for riding. We are not trying to be jerks, just please help us with adequate snow to ride.

    Thank you.

    1. That sounds like a good idea. Bug the crap out of the guy (Casey) that can send the drivers out to sand and plow it even more. I don't think that's a good way to get them to plow less. You can't leave snow on the sides of the road. When a car gets caught in it, spins out and causes an accident, who do you think they are going to sue? Be happy that you are allowed to ride on them. Most places you aren't even allowed to ride on the roads.

  14. Exactly we should all be happy!!! And love that fresh snow on the cam!!! KEEP IT COMING!!!

  15. that was the old way of thinking up here. complain and they will sand and plow you even more.but at this point it makes no difference.everybody always got along up here.roads werw safe for buses cars and snowmobiles.i know steve is stuck in the middle.but things have to change!complaing on this does no good.call the town and ask to talk to ted reaily he is the new superviser. he is a real nice guy.a snowmobile once too.but be nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Go back 22 years ago you could ride a snowmobile from Deerfield up to the Forge Motel using RT. 12/28... DOT did not care about plowing the road down to asphalt... Since I been going up there since.. 1972 until then..
... and can anybody say the words litigation.. & vehicle Lawsuits?

  23. Do you want your family like your wife and kids to be driving on these roads {so called trails} and get into an accident and DIE. think about it people. i have been on the trails since 1971 smome good some bad good years bad years its all about mother nature talk to her not OLD FORGE. there are other places you can go......

  24. Wish I was heading up to Ride. Like you said Steve, its better than sitting at home and crying about it.

  25. I for one am not looking for them to leave a foot of unplowed snow on the side of the road... Just a few inches on a 4 foot wide strip without salt and sand.
A little creative thinking can go a long way. Simply knock the crown off the mound of plowed snow on the side on the road and voila... W
    e are all happy!

  26. Everyone gets alittle crazy when the roads are mentioned. There are ways around using the roads i personal dont ride the entire big moose-stillwater rd only the last section into stillwater off the trail and usally isnt to bad. The back roads in town only use to get gas and eat at keys or muffin patch sometimes they are real bad but not always. I believe they dont do it on purpose to piss all us off its a saftey issue with everyone sue happy these days thats the problem!!

  27. THINK SNOW EVERYBODY!! LOOKS LIKE MAYBE FEB WILL BE OUT MONTH FOR NICE TRAILS!!

  28. Maybe you guys are right, maybe all the snowmobilers that been supporting this town for the last 20-30 years should start planning trips to maine,In all reality winters have pretty much sucked up there anyway. Also if you live in this area and dont know its gonna snow and you will have to drive on snow covered roads, you my friend are an idiot.Alot of people are sick of the sand on the roads, and basically OF is driving business away on there own,let alone the weather.say what you want, but its the truth...

    1. The municipalities dont care about sleds anymore. The tax base is so huge compared to expenses, sleds make no difference. Keeping the expensive camps on BM Road sandedis what matters.

Its the small business that pays.

    2. all the snowmobilers that have been supporting this town for 20-30 years? been in business for 15 years up here and i really hate to tell ya but SUMMER is our busy season up here. in the winter its busy one day a week, in the summer its 7 days per week. so with ALL the money you are spending on 1 day per week youre really not doing me any favors.

  29. Only the wannabees with more money than brains will disagree with the sand issue,we've all seen them up there,50,000 dollar truck, enclosed trailer, biggest displacement sled money can buy,and they cant make it through the parking lot, 50 miles and fifty thousand dollars dont make you a snowmobiler. But yeah its ok to ride on sand, just ask them they will tell yeah. lmao

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yeah ok, keep telling yourself that, snowmobilers dont pump money into the town...lmao, one day a week?? last time i checked just a weekend is two days.. nuff said
